EXCLUSIVE: After seeing his stock rise from starring in Fast Five, Dwayne Johnson is in talks to join another sequel. I’m told Johnson is in discussions with Paramount to join G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes. That’s the overhauled sequel that’ll be directed by Jon M. Chu, who helmed Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Johnson’s role is a character named Roadblock. I’m also hearing that Channing Tatum is a good bet to return. The picture has become an important one for Paramount, which will have to scratch the Star Trek sequel from its summer 2012 schedule and will likely put this film in its place. After Johnson helped boost The Fast and the Furious franchise (he’s also in talks to be part of the sixth film in that franchise), Paramount hopes he can help here as well. The studio had no comment. Look, Tatum was the weak link in the original film. If any should be dropped it was Tatum. Nichols, Lee, Park, Wayans,and Miller nailed their roles.
I agree with you.Wayans brought humor and the others were better than Tatum. I preferred watching them than Tatum.
I beg to differ with all of you..The movie sucked in every way and I am the biggest GIJOE fan there is..I know most of the characters and their history. Grew up collecting them. They should have Michael Bay direct GiJOE..keep the story about how cobra commander was a used up car salesman and had killed snake eyes’ family in a car accident..which led to other consequences in his life and how he hated what the world had dealt him..so he went mad and formed cobra!!..Snake Eyes & Stormshadow were in the Arishinakage Clan together where they learned ninjitsu..also, Zartan was responsible for killing the Hard Master, but Stormshadow was blamed for his death..so he fled the Clan..and scarlett, duke, snake eyes, and a few others were in battle together b4 GIJOE existed..That would make a great movie!! Ray Park is fine as snake eyes, but everyone else was terrible!..Have Jet Li play Stormshadow, Gerard Butler as Zartan, Kevin Spacey as Cobra Commander, Roadblock was black ..so the rock is out!..Michael Clark Duncan as Roadblock!!..Angelina Jolie as the Baroness..get some actors that actually resemble the characters for christ’s sake!!..
The best part of the G.I.Joe movie was at the beginning when they explained Destro’s origin and why he wore the mask!!..thats it!!

Having Channing Tatum return is one of the greatest mysteries in Hollywood filmmaking. He was quite possibly the worst thing about the movie, as he put on the most wooden acting that I’ve not seen this side of the galaxy since Hayden Christensen played Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels.
Having Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock is a good start for the revamp, but I think they shouldn’t overlook the actors/actresses that actually made the best of their roles from the first movie, especially Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Arnold Vosloo, and even Sienna Miller. Heck, even Marlon Wayans did a better job than Tatum.
Even though Sommer has departed, I hope Alan Silvestri sticks around since his score was one of the most fun scores that year.
A GI Joe movie without fan faves Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, Scarlett, or Baroness just wouldn’t seem like a GI Joe movie at all.
Okay, I want you to know that bashing Hayden Christensen is wrong. To put all the blame on Hayden, at the time a 19 year old actor is not supportable. He was hired by Lucas to do an acting job according to the specifics of Lucas (re: Rolling Stones article that states Hayden WANTED to play Skywalker differently but Lucas’ response was “read your contract”, in other words… kid YOU will do it MY way!). And, by the way Lucas OWNS the story, franchise, etc. so why wouldn’t he want it done HIS way? Also, let’s face it, ALL the actors in the prequels were “wooden” even the great Samuel L. Jackson and I thought he could NEVER “act” so doggone tame! So put the blame where it belongs with Lucas and stop bashing Hayden for doing the job he was HIRED to do, period!

Not the first person I was thinking for Roadblock, but really the only other choice was Terry Crews IMO. This is definitely inspired casting. I wonder if he will talk in rhymes like the cartoon.
that’s a good choice too. much rather see him that johnson. although i like johnson, crews might be better suited. but of course, he’s not as big a name as johnson.

Roadblock was the team’s heavy machine gunner (and oddly, cook) and one of the first prominent African American action heroes in the old cartoon/comic.
This movie will NOT be 3D. They canceled that plan a while ago.
This would be surprisingly credible casting. Not that he’s that hot right now, but after the box office of the first GI Joe, I took the notion that the cast of characters was mostly going to be replaced to mean cheaper actors.

Although I’m sure they will beef up the role to suit Dwayne Johnson, the character of Roadblock is really just peripheral at best. I would have like to see Johnson in more of a leadership role like Stalker or Beachhead.
I like and I don’t like this casting rock should be in a bigger role than Roadblock. I mean I can see shad gaspard in that role, but not Rock, he should be leading the joes.

Okay, so I’m not really a huge G.I. Joe fan — never cared for the toys, stopped buying the comics when Marvel over-expanded it to to many titles back in the late-80′s — but I liked the movie a *lot.*
Add the Rock to the cast as a Joe is a good move.
Bad move: trying to get Channing Tatum back. He’s a non-entity as an actor and only managed to take time away from the many far more compelling actors and characters in the movie — Quaid/Hawk, Nichols/Scarlett, Miller/Baroness, Eccleston/Destro and Wayans/Ripcord. And, well, pretty much everyone else.
While I wouldn’t expect the movie scribes to ever write the Scarlett-Snake Eyes into the movies due to Snake Eyes’s inability to speak being tricky to write even in comics — they are both far more compelling characters than Duke is. Because the comics’ writer, Larry Hama, gave them actual personalities. Duke was always the most boring character in the comics because, well, he was the typical generic day-player background soldier — one who was given waaaaaay too many lines. A cipher when he wasn’t busy being a generic soldier, which was most of the time.
So of *course* when you cast a non-actor like Tatum in the non-role of Duke, you’re going to get a human-shaped void who brings the movie to a screeching halt every time he’s on screen. You have to cast an actual actor in an underwritten role when the characterization has to come more from what the actor brings to it than from the script.
Thus, my recommendation is that the movie peeps take their hiring of Johnson as the perfect opportunity to kill Duke off in the movie’s prologue.

Here’s hoping about the FAST sequel, since Johnson’s appearance was the only reason my husband would go to the movie. He walked out talking about a sequel, and he liked Van D. being paired with Johnson. He would not see a Van D before. Johnson spreads the good cheer to other actors.
Terry Crews was ALWAYS my choice for Roadblock. Can’t understand why Hollyweird can’t figure this one out.
