Vivian Schiller, the former National Public Radio president and CEO who resigned in March in the wake of a hidden-camera scandal at the organization, has joined NBC News in the newly created position of Chief Digital Officer. She will be tasked with leading the digital strategy (Web and mobile) at NBC News and MSNBC to “ensure future growth and innovation” and will report to NBC News president Steve Capus. She begins in July. Schiller is no stranger to the TV business, with previous stints at Discovery Times Channel and overseeing long-form programming as head of CNN Productions. ”Her background in journalism, combined with expertise in the digital space, will add a strong new pillar to the NBC News leadership team,” Capus said in making the announcement today.
Schiller’s March resignation was a fallout from the posting by conservative activist James O’Keefe of a hidden-camera video of senior NPR executive Tom Schiller (no relation) bashing the tea party movement as “racist” and “xenophobic” and saying that NPR would be better off without federal funding. (Tom Schiller resigned right after his statements were made public.) The controversy unfolded just as conservatives were mounting pressure to defund the public radio broadcaster. A week after Vivian Schiller’s resignation, the House voted 228-192 in favor of ending federal funding of NPR. Vivian Schiller first came under fire last year for the dismissal of longtime analyst Juan Williams over his comments on Fox News Channel that he feels uncomfortable when he sees people in Muslim garb on planes.

Her liberal bias will fit right in at NBC.
When “news” became politics it ceased being news.
In the 1970′s NBC dropped religious programming and configured the news as entertainment. That is when I lost interest in that network. They executed a defacto policy that would not allow any religious broadcasting to be aired by their network. Instead of all the news that fit to print, they adopted a policy of all the news that entertains or has entertainment value.
The solution to Progressive propaganda is not ignoring them. That is what they want from conservatives. The solution is to directly impact their bottom line until they understand that intentional distortions, partisan propaganda, and ideological lying by our public media will simply not be tolerated…It is not enough to ignore them so they can continue to mislead and deceive…they should be selectively and aggressively forced out of financial existence. Can you spell “boycott all advertisers?”
right on
With her views-I doubt she will be successful in ensuring future growth and viewership. The 3 lamestream tv channels are losing viewers as the old timers die off. Who else watches their biased crap?
So she’s too biased for NPR, but just biased enough for NBC News? I guess this means NBC has completely given up on fair and moderate reporting.
Well, so long, Nightly News. It’s been fun.
NBC News: Where the truth went to die
And, This is why I don’t watch NBC news
Schiller’s hiring supports my thesis that we live in a de-meritocracy.
Just another reason to stop watching NBC or viewing their biased crap online.
The libs will always watch each others back.
Getting Juan Williams fired from NPR and then telling him he should see a shrink for his concerns of Muslims didn’t help her in the public eye either. BTW, does anyone watch NBC news and if so why?
Yes, MSNBC has viewers, 31 of them! Why do they watch it? They lost a bet.
I used to because I thought Brian Williams was a decent guy, and a huge improvement over his mush-mouthed predecessor. It hasn’t been the same since Tim Russert passed away, though, and aside from occasionally listening to the AM simulcast when I’m stuck in rush hour traffic, I stopped watching a year and a half ago because I just couldn’t tolerate the slanted reporting any longer.
Lets start a boycott! You get 3 friends to stop watching and they get 3 friends-yada-yada-yada. That is what is needed along with people writing e-mails and letters voicing their disdain for the lack of objectivity in the media!
What’s NBC news? I thought they were a mouth piece of the Democrat Party.
Just when you think NBC can get any worst it does. Unbeliveable. They have become nothing more than a propoganda tool of the far left.
A match made in heaven. Watch out, Al Roker, stick to the party line.
From NPR to NBC. Just like moving from Cuba to North Korea, same one party system runs each.
What a perfect analogy. Love it!
Wow, what a surprise….maybe Olberman hsould have gone to NPR in a one-for-one trade….
Why is that not a surprise from the ‘fair and balanced’ mainstream media.
What else did you think was going to happen? Viv Schiller standing in the unemployment line? HA!
Since I can’t stand NBC this won’t affect me in the least! The left takes care of their own. Probably a payback for an NPR favor to NBC in the past. It’s their outplacement benefit when terminating an employee.
More proof that MSNBC and NBC are nothing more than propoganda outlets for Democrats.
General Electric just sold NBC to Comcast so I’m hoping that Comcast cares more about making money and being objective. Maybe they will can some of these people. NBC is dead last in ratings, you would think the new owners would try a new direction.
MSNBC was a seldom used icon on my favorites bar… now I’ve deleted it. Hard to believe that at one time MSNBC was the only news site I visited… now I wouldn’t even consider it.
Is NBC news still on the air? I thought they cancelled it when Brokaw quit.
I like it. NPR is circling the drain. And now Shiller is gonna work her ‘magic’ at NBC and MSNBC!
It a two-fer tragedy!
Popcorn!
I was afraid of this…NBC is sinking fast and reverting back to their old ways and hiring this broad, who almost destroyed NPR, makes it unanimous.
Let there be no doubt, now, about the political agenda of NBC News. Schiller resigned in disgrace from NPR due to her overt and biased Liberal agenda and discriminatory personnel polices.
Steve Capus apparently believes that there is not one other person in all of the digital media and news world without Schiller’s baggage, more qualified than Schiller.
Talk about throwing gasoline on the Liberal bias fires stoked by the Tea Party folks!
Hmmm. In other news Al Roker was seen updating his resume.
You know, just in case.
What is NBC news again?
I’m going to apply for a job as Conservative Commentator. Wonder if the position is open, or if there is a position at corporate NBC?
you can’t get rid of these people. after her behavior at npr, she shouldn’t be welcome anywhere. I bet she got a raise
NBC still has an evening newscast? Is that the one Couric moved to? At least Peter Jennings still has a gig at ABC, right?
