Fox News is taking a platoon approach this summer to fill Glenn Beck’s former time slot. It has announced a new show called The Five that will feature commentators including Juan Williams, Dana Perino, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Geraldo Rivera, Andrea Tantaros, Eric Bolling, Monica Crowley, and Bob Beckel. Beck’s last show is tonight. Here’s the release:
FOX News Channel (FNC) will launch a new weekday program on July 11th at 5 PM/ET, announced Bill Shine, Executive Vice President of Programming for the network. Entitled The Five, the program will serve as a replacement for Glenn Beck during the summer.
The new opinion show will feature a roundtable ensemble of five rotating FOX personalities who will discuss, debate and at times debunk the hot news stories, controversies and issues of the day.
In making the announcement, Shine said, “The Five brings together an eclectic group of FOX talent whose knowledge of key issues and unique insights will undoubtedly make for a dynamic program.”
Some of the revolving FOX personalities to be showcased in the weekly ensemble include: Greg Gutfeld, Juan Williams, Dana Perino, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Geraldo Rivera, Andrea Tantaros, Eric Bolling, Monica Crowley, Bob Beckel and Kimberly Guilfoyle. The program will also feature added guests, including politicians, celebrities, sports figures and key newsmakers.
Prior to the launch of The Five, FNC will run encore presentations of Glenn Beck from Monday, July 4th through Friday, July 8th. On Friday, July 1st, What Makes America Great, hosted by John Stossel will be presented at 5 PM/ET.
New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

well all they have to do is show a circus- any circus. one clown is all they have to have
To many under this tent. But everyone gets a little slack in the summer so guess they figure anything goes. They should give Gutfeld a try – he is absolutely hilarious but you have to stay up to the wee hours to catch him. Napolitano is kind of blah and Beckel is pretty rude and a big interrupter. Dont know who Bolling is.
give me more Gutfeld! the guy is extremely funny.
Agree. RED EYE should be bumped up to 2am ET/11pm PT as it’s better than all of the late night talk show on the other channels!
Why is it that all the Average Joes are afraid of common sense and intelligence? I’ll gladly watch Dana, Juan, Greg, Kimberly, Eric and all the rest. The other channels can stick to pumping out the hate (yawn).
I really like this idea as long as they keep it balanced with conservative and liberal panelists. I am a staunch conservative, but I want liberal ideas to be on prominent display so that the American viewer can decide what ideology better suits their own point-of-view.
Many years ago, PBS broadcast a show called “The Advocates” which was hosted by Michael Dukakis before his governorship and failed presidential run. That show presented a controversial issue and allowed thoughtful debate from both sides. I welcome the opportunity to hear issues debated in an open forum. We will all benefit from moving beyond sound bites and political dirty tricks to hear arguments presented with the opportunity of the other side to question their veracity.
AaronSch- you’re joking, right? I mean, I’d totally support your idea; we really NEED some honest and open political debate; and we DEFINITELY need some reliable fact-checking. But this is FOX NEWS. You seem too intelligent to pretend that it is anything but a wholely-owned subsidiary of the Republican Party. Just look at how Chris Wallace openly admitted it in his interview with Jon Stewart a couple of weeks ago- and as a sidenote: how utterly embarassing is it that the so-called “liberal mainstream media” (as if megacorporations COULD have a leftist bias) is terrified to stand up to Fox, and only a cable tv comedian will call them out.
What exactly did Chris Wallace admit to? I watched the interview as well as Chris’ rebuttal to Jon Stewart’s tantrum following his Fox News Sunday interview. Chris simply stated that he saw Fox News as a balance to what the other networks are reporting—giving voice to opposing points-of-view. Liberals like Jon Stewart don’t want balance of any kind. Fox News is reviled by the left because like talk radio, it threatens the monopoly they have had for decades on political opinion in the media.
Fox is more balanced than any of the other cable networks. I’ll make my point for the umpteenth time for all of you brainwashed liberals. Fox News showcases the opinions of liberals far more than any other news outlet showcases conservative opinion. Conservatives are often marginalized on other networks if they are given a place for discussion at all. Name me a well-known conservative other than Pat Buchanen or George Will that appears regularly on CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, CNN, HLN or MSNBC? Fox regularly gives air time to well-known liberals like Juan Williams, Mara Liasson, Bob Beckel, Dr. Lamont Hill, Patrick Caddell, Kirsten Powers, Alan Colmes, Susan Estrich and Greta Van Sustren to name just a few. And the left has heavily criticized them for appearing on Fox News because they continue to attack Fox News’ credibility. In fact, Juan Williams was fired and Mara Liasson was threatened with dismissal by NPR. How’s that for freedom of speech?
Are you honestly so naive as to believe that all wealthy people and corporations are conservative or Republican? Do you read? Have you ever researched what Democrats in congress are worth? Did you know that Nancy Pelosi is a multi-millionaire and her income increased 62% during the country’s deep recession? Have you ever heard of leftist billionaire George Soros? That evil SOB’s ill-gotten wealth has funded a multitude of liberal, “progressive” groups and media outlets. The Obama administration is in bed with GE, GM, Chrysler, Google, Yahoo, MSN and a host of other large corporations and media outlets.
Addendum: NBC/Comcast’s executive vice president, David L. Cohen, hosted about 120 people in his home for a dinner, each of the attendees giving at least $10,000 for Obama’s reelection campaign.
Another slobbering progressive idiot who’s brain leaked out of their ass.
Fox News is the only news channel that is honest and decent. Thank you ladies and gentlemen for all your good work.
“So you think they’d get away with these kind of verbal attacks if the candidate in question was say Hillary Clinton instead of a conservative congresswoman? Talk about a double standard.” Sean Hannity, complaining about criticism of Michele Bachmann, 6/28/11
“Obama, he’s a piece of shit, and I told him to suck on my machine gun. Hey, Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch.” Ted Nugent, 8/27/04, in clip shown on Hannity
“That was friend and frequent guest on the program Ted Nugent expressing his feelings towards Democratic presidential contenders Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton.” Sean Hannity, 8/24/07
“[Are] you prepared to disavow this lowlife?” “No, I like Ted Nugent. He’s a friend of mine.” “[Nugent] ought to never come on your show again, and if you have him on, you ought to be ashamed of yourself,” “Not at all. We have you on.” Exchange between Sean Hannity and Bob Beckel, 8/27/07
“I find myself a little conflicted here, because this is almost the opposite of what candidate Obama said he would do.” Sean Hannity, 5/2/11, after the military operation that killed Osama bin Laden.
“If the United States has al Qaeda, bin Laden, top-level lieutenants in our sights, and Pakistan is unable or unwilling to act, then we should take them out.” Candidate Obama, in debate with Candidate McCain, who disagreed with this position and termed it “invading Pakistan”, 9/26/08.
“American troops have never been under the formal control of another nation.” Karl Rove, 3/23/10, on Hannity.
“Ultimately, there are at least 17 examples, stretching back longer than a century, in which U.S. forces have worked, mostly successfully, under foreign operational leadership. So we rate Rove’s statement False.” Polifact
And an oldie but a goodie:
“A fist bump? A pound? A terrorist fist jab? The gesture everyone seems to interpret differently.” Fox News Host E.D Hill, on Obama’s fist bump with his wife, 6/6/08
On and on, obviously. Honest and decent, eh?
HA HA HA!! Good one, Missisippi Man!
You were kidding, right?
They should move Red Eye to 11pm both coasts instead of O’Reilly reruns. Time for some new blood in the political satire realm. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have become tired and predictable parodies of themselves.
So a meta-parody? The mind boggles.
this is their version of “The View” or “The Talk”
They could have put up a test pattern in Beck’s old timeslot and still pulled the same, or higher, ratings. Even the sheep finally got tire of his antics.
You’re dead wrong. Lately, he consistently came in second only to HLN: Special Report in his time slot, beating both CNN and MSNBC. Get your facts right before blabbering bs.
It would be nice if fox didn’t just recycle all that they already have. How bout some creativity! Oops I forgot, that’s what the democrats do!!
Mr.Shine,
Throw it all out there and see what sticks. That might help your ratings…but will it examine the issues confronting this country?
Just glad to see beck off the air a rountable of guests sounds interesting
