Beginning on September 12, viewers will once again be able to watch departing Fox News host Glenn Beck at 5 PM, but this time it will cost them $5 a month. Glenn Beck’s company Mercury Radio Arts will launch GBTV – a live streaming video network, which will feature Glenn’s new daily 5-7 PM show, as well as other “original and licensed information and entertainment programming.” The company claims it already has over 80,000 paying subscribers. Joel Cheatwood, the former Fox News Channel who joined Mercury earlier this year, has been named President of Programming for GBTV and will oversee Beck’s show. GBTV, which will charge $5 a month for Beck’s new show and $10 for the entire network, will launch with two other programs: a six-camera simulcast of Glenn’s three hour radio show and The 4th Hour starring Pat Gray and Stu Burguiere. In addition to subscriptions, it will also rely on advertising, an area where Beck’s current TV show has had problems as a slew of advertisers pulled from it over some of the host’s controversial statements. “GBTV is the future,” said Beck, whose last show on Fox News airs June 30.

Umm, yeah. Good luck with that…
Can you be a Hasbeen of you are a Neverwere?
I hope this move finally makes this Carnie crash and burn. I would venture to guess that 60% of his Fox News audience have NO clue how to access the website or even have an internet connection.
“Carnie” pretty much covers it. Even the respectable republicans I know can’t stomach him.
I agree. Unfortunately, respectable Republicans aren’t his core audience.
Yes, he’s a carny. No, his audience has no clue. Yes, they’ll pay.
Yeah, keep underestimating middle (center right) America…
To suggest that an insult to Glenn Beck and his audience is an insult to all of middle America is pretty damn insulting to middle America. You’re the own who’s underestimating them.
After Obama cut heating oil subsidies for low-income families, $5 is a bargain price for month-long hot air.
I’m curious to see exactly WHO will advertise on Beck’s new internet show. I can’t imagine all the companies who rejected him on FOX will embrace a fully uncensored version of the same; and the kind of companies that ONLY advertise on the ‘net don’t exactly fit with his pseudo-evangelist TV image (although he’s more of a “shock jock” on his radio show, so who knows WHAT facade he’ll present for the Web…)
Needless to say, the internet’s total abscence of “truth in advertising” laws will suit both him AND his sponsors Juuuuuust fine…
LOL
Good luck to Mr. Beck. When I hear of this plan, it reminds me of Charlie Sheen and his Winning Webcast. I admit Mr. Beck’s lunacy can be entertaining at times, but after a few minutes it’s just annoying. Personally, not only would I not pay $5 a month to watch Mr. Beck… I wouldn’t even watch him, if he paid me.
HAHAHAHAHA Seriously? I suppose there are enough useful idiots out there but … really?
I gotta give it to the guy, love him or hate him (I’m indifferent because I think he’s a clown), he knows how to make a buck. However, it’s going to be interesting to see how his pay-per-view/subscription scheme works out. Aside from major retailers like Apple and Amazon, the internet is still seen as a free-content novelty for most users, plus it’s a tad but easier to build an audience when you’re supported by a propaganda machine that’s owned by a multinational corporation.
Will people, who are already in dire financial straits, pay a carnival barker $4.95 a month to hear his crazy talk? Did Paul Revere drive around in his Ford F150 warning the British lame-stream media about gun-control using bells? Nuff said.
$5 x 80,000 = $400,000 a year.
Plus all the ad money still only equals $400,000 a year.
this is just terrible math.
That’s per MONTH for only his show. Double it for the entire network access and multiply by 12 for the whole year. Then add advertising and you will see what may become a new business model for others to follow.
Your math is SO wrong.
5×80,000= 400,000 PER MONTH
That is just under $5 MILLION a year, without adds.
x 12 you idiot.
$5 x 80,000 x 12 (months) = 4,800,000
The production costs will be way down as it will be in-house, so even if the ad revenue JUST pays for production… He is doing better than any other internet jockie I can think of.
I like this new Glen Beck, Howard stern business model.
they can still get paid and earn a living and we don’t have to hear or stumble upon them if we choose not to.
win win.
Are you so ignorant you can’t avoid “stumbling upon” him now?
Politics and the fact that he’s an asshat aside, nobody wants to pay for anything on the Internet.
Good luck, nutjob.
YOU CAN GO TO THE HARDWARE STORE AND BUY A WING NUT FOR .15 CENTS, WHO NEEDS TO PAY
$ 5.00
considering the average age of a Glenn Beck follower is at least 60, I doubt many of them are going to learn how to use the internet to make the jump
Old people are so ignorant and stupid and backward aren’t they. Hopefully you won’t ever get old.
You must have ignorant parents and grandparents.
Maybe you just have a bad gene. We do realize however at your age
we don’t expect much. What do ten year olds understand about life,
70 and counting sweetie.

I don’t understand why everyone is laughing at this. Glenn Beck may not be your taste but that doesn’t mean everyone on the talent side of Hollywood shouldn’t be rooting for him to succeed with this. He is the first piece of talent actually trying to go direct-to-consumer. He’s basically betting that people value his content, and that he doesn’t need the traditional MSO/Network/Studio system to reach that audience. The domestic TV biz generates close to $200B a year and the talent that actually makes the shows we love ends up with about 3% of that money. And it’s because of this monolithic system that’s been in place since the beginning of the business. All the writers and directors and producers and actors that flip through this site should be praying this works, because you can bet Stewart/Colbert, Adam Carolla/Kevin Smith/Joe Rogan podcasts, and an entirely new generation are all soon to follow. This is the beginning of the era when content actually becomes king. Don’t poo-poo it just because you don’t like the guy’s politics.
EXACTLY!!!! Watch his radio show. It’s a 6 camera HD shoot streamed live for four hours each day. It’s the future even if the content isn’t for everyone. There’s 800 cable channels broadcasting to a continuously fragmenting audience!
Well, at least all those hackers will finally leave Sony alone.
You guys are funny. Glenn Beck controls your every emotion. Look at all the hate and insults over………nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Liberals are such useful idiots. Though Im no Beck fan I love how he controls every emotion of the average pseudo intellectual liberal nut. Great comedy.
This snarky style so popular with the GOP these days is more believable if you imagine it read by the Carl’s Jr. commercial narrator.
Lets us know when/if you catch up and meet reality.
Wow, so much hate. So much for free speech.
FREE speech? I guarantee you, Beck does NOTHING for free.
The whole POINT of this article is: how many people will pay to hear him, and how much?
Oh please, go take a class on “free speech.” Free speech means you won’t be jailed or killed for speaking your mind. It doesn’t mean private companies have to lose money for continuing to advertise on this nut’s show, all the while offending decent Americans who don’t appreciate Beck’s lunacy. It doesn’t mean everyone has to watch him or root for him or ignore the fact that he is a cancer to society.
To the person who said “5 X 80,000 = $400,000 a year”…it’s actually $5 a month. So $400,000 X 12 = $4,800,000 PLUS money from advertising.
That is 400k a month.
Having spent a few years defending this country so that we allcan enjoy the wonder of America where one can watch just about anything on TV, Cable, or the Internet or NOT!
Hmmm…Stern’s initial deal with Sirius was for $100 million a year. That also needed to cover all operating expenses, since there was no advertising. So, $100 million vs. $5 million. Winning for Beck!
Money will talk.
It never ceases to amaze me how few people grasp the concept that the freedom of speech protection we enjoy only applies to GOVERNMENT regulation of it – there is no freedom of speech as it applies to private regulation thereof.
This is 101, how do so few people understand this?!
As for anonymous’ comment above: Beck is NOT the first person to try this, but I agree that it is a model worth pursuing. However I disagree with your premise that the talent only gets a small slice of the revenue because of an outdated system. Anyone who is willing to put up their own money (or raise it) to create and distribute content is free to do so and try to make a profit. It’s just that most of the talent/creators either don’t have the money to put up, or else they’re unwilling to do so.
i love this model. but with one tweak: charge $5.00 per month to NOT appear anywhere. each month. yup, i would pay $5.00/mo for beck to disappear from the media landscape. i would also pay $5.00/mo for palin to disappear. maybe a package price of $12.50/mo for beck, palin and bachmann to all disappear together…
Those who actually buy his show are those who prove the old saying “More money then brains”, is actually true.
