Police in London today arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the hacking of Sony’s PlayStation Network in April, as well as for his potential involvement in breaches to the systems of the UK’s Serious Organized Crime Agency and the CIA. There was no clear word whether the teenager, identified as Ryan Cleary, was officially a part of LulzSec, a group that has claimed to have hacked into PBS’ and Sony Pictures’ websites; in the latter case, the group obtained access to the accounts of 1 million users. The PlayStation Network attack shut down the system for a month; according to various reports, the company estimates the cost of the attack to Sony will exceed $170 million.

That is the worst place to get arrested, you have zero rights out there
:}
A 19 year old boy, more like. Kids are allowed to make dumb mistakes, and it will be a travesty and massive miscarriage of justice when he gets sent to prison for a decade or two just because a big corporation lost a little money. Big fucking deal. Pardon him and give him a job at Sony instead.
yeah, let’s give the guy a job at sony (i’d love to be you seeing as how in your world $170M is a little money) and while we’re at it…why not let him sell all the information he uncovered when hacking into the CIA and UK’s serious organized crime agency?
what’s the harm.
please – i was 19 not so long ago, and at 19, that’s not the innocent f’up of a child… next you’ll be saying that a 19 year old who gets drunk, drives and kills innocent peeps should have no repercussions as they’re just a kid who made a dumb mistake.
Adam, you are one stinkin’ idiot. Aren’t you the same guy that got upset at children who were attacked by pedophiles and blamed the victims for getting in the way of serial killers?
Actually why don’t you send me your bank account numbers so I can uh… borrow some money. I’m really… let’s see… 17… and I don’t need to take responsibility for my actions.
Lets pardon all the bank robbers and give them jobs at the banks they robs.Lets pardon all the child molesters and give them jobs at local pre-schools.Lets pardon all the drug dealers and give them jobs at rehab clinics.
What?! It’s not stupid idea day?
Injustice? Participating in online anarchy hurts a lot more than just corporations. What about consumers who’ve had their identities and financial information compromised, employees of companies damaged by service disruptions, and others who depend upon the internet for dependable, secure service? Send these turds to pound-me-in-the-butt prison. Injustice my foot.
I’m sure all the corporate big wigs at Sony will demand his head on a plate. And he made a mockery of some other very high profile institutions (hello CIA). However let’s all be honest. It was entertaining. You can pretend to be as annoyed as you want, but this kid had balls. Cyber crime, not good. No argument there. But this kid seemed more Robin Hood than Hood Robbin’.
Will they give him a break? Probably not. And it is pretty sad that this will be severely punished while people who molest kids get let back out on the street after just a few years. If anything make him work for minimum wage to expose security weakness for large corporations or something.
Dude shut up and go hang out with Adam. YOu losers deserve each other.
In what state do you live in where child molesters get let back on the street in a few years?
So he’s 19! So what? Anyone with the intelligence to do what he did is smart enough to know the ramifications & consequences.
Why are people making comparisons to child-molesters? One thing has nothing to do with the other!
No one compared him to a child molester numb skull. I said Child molesters get let back on the streets
but I bet this kid wont get that chance. Redmenace, what WORLD do you live in where they don’t? Are you even being serious, or really that out of touch?
Obviously none of you know the story of Alberto Gonzalez, the greatest cyber criminal of all time, who stole MILLIONS and millions of dollars from people, and……Got a Job working at the FBI from it. Granted, he ended up betraying them too. Chalk that up to his character, but it’s obvious you have no clue what you’re talking about. You’re either a Sony Investor, or a butt hurt League of Legends nerd, like many of my friends, just upset that you couldn’t play you’re FREE game for a few days.
