There’s nothing funnier than watching men get stupid.
Watching women get stupid gives the watching men get stupid thing a run for it’s money.
I wonder what the 3rd Hangover film’s plot will be?
Most likely the gang go to London, get drunk, they gate crash the 2012 Olympics, steal an Aston Martin and the big cameo comes from Daniel Craig (whose Aston Martin the gang inevitably steal).
Yeah. Most likely that will be it.
You should try writing an r rated comedy that does a billion dollars worldwide. Since you have so many good ideas.
I’d agree if this was actually funnier as opposed to just louder.
Todd’s not a businessman, he’s a business, man!
So Todd Phillips is personally going to bank over 100 million dollars with these two films? Not to mention whatever he made on Due Date (10-15m?) That is a kind of ridiculous 3 year run, no? And not deserved either, if you ask me.
worldwide gross for the 2 sex and the city r rated comedies is 700 million
not hangover numbers but awesome yet everyone trashes
both r rated surprise hit comedies, both sequels sucked, both exceeding oversees… (not saying equal as hangover 2 is making more than sex 2 but there are many similarities and sex 2 still made 300 million)
Sex and the City 2 cost almost as much as both Hangovers combined, and SATC 2 dropped almost a third from the first films gross.
yes but still grossed 300 million…
it cost 95 million which is really crazy and hangover 2 cost 80 million…
the first sex cost 60 vs 35
plus the dvd sales for sex were huge… especially the first one… they probably made 1 billion when theaters and dvd were added up
2 movies 1 billion in tickets and dvd… no reason to go apeshit like everyone did or pretends to do
SATC had a built in loyal audience, Hangover had no stars and no name recognition. Hangover 2 outgrossed the first, SATC 2 dropped almost 30% worldwide from the first and killed the “franchise”. Hangover 3 is a given because it has growth potential. The only dumb part about Hangover 2 is not signing the actors for more sequels at a lower rate.
The cost of the 2 hangovers was 115 million
The cost of the 2 sex’s were 155
I thought the sequel to Hangover Part II was hilarious. Who cares if it was EXACTLY the same as the first one, it was still funny as hell!
My interpretation of the success is that the dynamics of male domination as accepted in society makes it 1000% funnier to watch men get stupid than nice little dominated subservient free slaves ( women) get stupid because they are already treated and assumed as stupid. Stupid little objects ,thecsole purpose is for mens gratification; never funny by half the world: women.
Done purely on the back of Hangover 1.
Yes. Like most sequels. That is why it is called The Hangover PART II.
That said, its a bit tough to eke out half a billion dollars on the good will of the first film ONLY. Many sequels have tried. The Hangover Part II might not be your cup of tea, but apparently audiences LOVED IT.
the international market don’t speaky english so to them getting drunk is just pure funny on its own.
Don’t forget that “Hangover 2″ (like Sex & City”) is R-Rated in the United States of America, and that’s not the case everywhere. In France, both films are for all audiences without any restriction.
…and yet it will struggle to match the original’s domestic box office take despite a huge opening.
Struggle?! Something tells me every studio would love to “struggle” like this on every r-rated comedy they made.
It’s going to do 550-575 MILLION DOLLARS WORLDWIDE. I know it’s difficult for dumb Americans to understand, but the Studios don’t care what country the money comes from.
Additionally, it is going to break every record ever for a live action comedy *not just r-rated. I think it’s safe to say it is a huge success.
Yeah, but seriously, there’s no need for a third just like there was no need for a second. They got lucky, Part II sucked big time and I’m a huge huge fan of the first.
What a damning verdict for the state of cultural progress around the world LOL
The world is apparently just one big frathouse…
488 + 468 = 956 million, so probably will exceed a billion, but not yet. Still yowza.
a sign of the apocalypse…
One can only imagine how successful it’d have been if Craig Mazin didn’t somehow worm his way onto the writing team. Let this be a lesson to you young writers – connections are 100 percent of a Hollywood writer’s career, talent is zero percent. I wish I was being figuratively sarcastic, but unfortunately, I am being literal.
1000% correct.
Well, speaking from a place where I read a ton of scripts and hire writers all the time, you are 1000% wrong. We are all looking for talented writers. 90% of spec scripts are terrible. SO we hire people we know who have a better chance of delivering. Write better scripts and we’ll hire you.
I think comedies about men being stupid do better than comedies about women being stupid because men are more willing to DO fun and risky (ie stupid) things than women are.
Although that may be changing…
Whether or not Mazin is a relentless self-promoter doesn’t mean a lot of smart people don’t think he’s a good collaborative Writer.
Am I missing something? The first made $468 million and the second made $488… So how is their combined global box office over “$1 billion. Yowza”?
overhyped part1 not original remake from dude where’s my car. Poor not funny movie. World got screwed with brain washing to see these movies. Its not funny.
John V. Karavitis I didn’t see the first Hangover movie, everyone says it was hilarious. I tend to ignore the vox populi when it comes to choosing movies, but, now that everyone is squawking over Hangover 2, I’m thinking it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check out the first Hangover. (I distrust the vox populi because of movies like Idiocracy, which everyone raved over, but which, in itself, was proof positive that most people are stupid.) John V. Karavitis
This last comment wins my “Inception” award for dumb comments. ie. the dumbest thing presented by someone thinking they are smart.
Firstly, anyone who uses the term ‘vox populi’ is an d-bag. Anyone that uses it twice? Even worse. Not going to see The Hangover because some tiny vox populi in whatever hick town you live said it was good, is silly beyond explanation. I enjoyed Hangover and H-2, nothing more, nothing less. But they have gone on to make history. They are the Avatar of comedy. Idiocracy did under 500,000 of business. That’s less than “Dhobi Ghat” aka Mumbai Diaries… what are you talking about when you say “most people”. I can’t find you 5 people that have seen Idiocracy.
Just imagine how much money it would have made if it were any good!
Omg the funniest 2 movies I have ever seen.
Exact mixture of adventure, locations, film, colors, dialogue, humor, jokes, originality, creativity, sets, action, surprise, wardrobe, acting, editing, lighting, suspense, surprise, and ….no superheros. ……..
So, how many ‘Sexes’ can I get for a tenner?
