Samuel Goldwyn Films has released a trailer for the Larysa Kondracki-directed The Whistleblower, with Rachel Weisz starring as an American police officer who becomes a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia. Her hopes of helping rebuild the country are dashed when she sees rampant sex-trafficking activity, and apathy or worse among government officials who turn a blind eye to what is going on. Script was written by Ellis Kirwan & Kondracki, and it’s inspired by a true story. Vanessa Redgrave, Monica Bellucci and David Strathairn also star. The film begins rolling out Aug. 5.

Saw this film in San Francisco and its a great movie. Rachel Weisz is one hell of an actress.
‘The Whistleblower’ screened at the Seattle International Film Festival last weekend, and drew rave reviews from those in attendance. Is there an Oscar nom in the future for Ms. Weisz? Very likely indeed. It is nice to see Hollywood execs haven’t given up on movies based on real life people dealing with difficult current events. And look ma — there’s no 3D! Thank goodness. Adult fare for thinking adults!
What? No zombies, vampires, robots or animated 3D characters?
Excellent!
And I love Rachel. She’s beautiful, talented, smart and gracious. And this looks good.
Saw this in Toronto and it was fantastic. Powerful film and Rachel Weisz was really bold to take on the part. Not glamorous, dark subject, but really good.
Saw it as well. Very good. Didn’t think I was going into anything great, but I was surprised. Weisz is excellent.
Looking forward to seeing this movie. Like many of you, I’m glad to see some members of Hollywood are still dedicated to telling a great story with excellent actors and writers, as opposed to relying on technical gimmicks, or re-hashed genre material (vamps, superheros, etc.) to make a movie. I’m also glad to see actresses getting some meaty roles this year. Between this movie for Weisz, and Swinton’s role in “We Need to Talk about Kevin”, it’s shaping up to be a good year for women in Hollywood.
Add Maria Bellow to that list. She was nothing short of brilliant in Beautiful Boy.
I got to read this script about 2 years ago and LOVED IT! I wanted to make this movie so bad but the people above me passed on it (because they thought it wasn’t commercial enough…gag) and it ended up in the hands of Voltage. I am so glad this movie got made and I really excited to see it. At least we know there are some people left who want to make real, good, solid movies. I hope Rachel gets nominated for Oscar.
I SAW THE WHISTLEBLOWER LAST NIGHT IN COPENHAGEN AT A SPECIAL OPENING. IMPORTANT FILM AND MRS WEISZ IS TOP.
BUT WHAT WAS THE NAME OF THAT PRIVATE CORPS SHE WORKED FOR? AND WAS IT THE REAL NAME OR A MOCK?
SINCERELY,
