There’s a new trailer up for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, the Tomas Alfredson-directed adaptation of the John Le Carre espionage novel. The film stars Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch and Ciaran Hinds. Oldman unbelievably has managed to exist as one of the most consistently great actors, without being nominated for an Oscar. From what I’ve heard, his performance in this movie provides Oldman with his strongest chance to be a serious contender to put a trophy on his mantel. Focus Features releases the film in the US on Nov. 18.

I like it. Looks like a refreshing change from all the fake-looking ridiculous shit.
This is what trailers should do…set the stage…set the tone…set the characters…generate audience interest in this “who done it” type story.
Like it or not…you clearly know what you are getting.
Very excited to see this film and the trailer looks wonderful. Great to see the brilliant actor Benedict Cumberbatch start to develop a film career. Incredible actor.
This is a great trailer, but I don’t see major Oscar play with this film. But, I will say, as an American, that most British actors always give reliably great performances with incredible nuance. Also, I just love their intellectual wit. I will also add Aussie & Kiwi actors to that mix. It is just not easy being a U.S. actor on film or on stage , when they have to compete with these foreigners.
Red Riding Hood, Lost In Space, Air Force One. Not everything in his career is stellar.
“most British actors always give reliably great performances…” might be one of the most moronic comments I’ve read in a long time. I love a lot of these actors but by your reasoning, Dustin Hoffman, Pacino, DeNiro, Streep, Benning, Buscemi, Micheal Stuhlbarg, James Gandolfini, etc., should cry uncle. (The American actor list could easily go on for pages) Just say you go weak in the knees for an accent and leave it at that.
I agree with you, Kevin. Gimme a break.
The comment was not dissing American performances, just bringing to light at the Brits are an incredibly talented group as well and ARE competitive.
I’m guessing you’re an out of work actor.
Looks beautifully shot. Good to see Smiley, Toby Esterhase, Connie Sachs and the whole gang back in the saddle. Le Carre is God.
Fabulous! I can hardly wait. Love Le Carre
A breath of fresh air after stale summer popcorn.
Oh, yeah! Great trailer.
I like it. This film looks like it can tap dance all over all any of the MI 1,2,3,4,5,6,7…whatever.
Well, considering neither film has come out, yet, and one is a thriller while the other one is an action film, I don’t really understand the comment. Personally, I want to see both.
Can’t wait!
Looking forward to this movie. Great cast. Like Fleming stated, it’s shocking that Oldman has never been nominated for an Oscar. His turn as Dracula (you know, when vampires were gothic horror icons as opposed to the jokes they are now) hit almost every note on the dramatic scale and he was phenomenal. Maybe this year will be Oldman’s year.
Badass. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you cut a great trailer.
Too right!!! And what is that music? It’s awesome.
I was dubious when this film was announced as the BBC Adaptation with Alec Guinness and Ian Richardson was one of the best pieces of TV ever, but this trailer looks very strong.
Yes, the BBC version was brilliant. So subtle. Guinness was incredible. One of the things I liked best about it is that the filmmakers assumed the audience to be highly intelligent. I hope this movie version does the same.
TERRIBLE WIGS!
Benedict Cumberbum’s publicist should earn a bonus for posting on this website
Benny’s part is at best the 7th biggest part in the film
why is his name always mentioned in connection with this film? He is an extra for pip’s sake.
Alan Rickman was much more of an extra in the BBC’s Smiley’s People (the third installment in this series). That worked out kinda well…
Benedict plays Peter Guillam — that’s one of the bigger characters in the Le Carre universe…
Peter Guillan may be a bigger character in the universe, but in Tinker Tailor Solder Spy, the bigger parts are Smiley, Toby, Percy, Bill, Jim Prideaux and Ricky Taar. So Benedict is playing the 8th biggest part in this film – at best.
He’s mentioned in every review cause he’s the best actor in the movie with the best scene. it’s pretty obvious. I Like it how Cumberbatch arouses the interest of haters… it’s furnishing evidence for his brilliance.
Wow that was a great trailer. I’m in. Love the music too.
Yes! This is a phenomenal trailer, watching it again and again and again.
Take note Hollywood, this is what a film for adults look like.
Looks like Bourne for grown-ups. I’m in.
Agreed, great trailer, great music. Never saw the original, but this looks good. Though no female characters?
This is going to be great. The book is one of the best spy books ever. I’ve seen the Alec Guiness one and pod casted the BBC radio version. Even though I know who the mole is I’m always excited when Smiley traps him.
Gary Oldman in a lead again. Hurray! Tom Hardy as Ricki Tarr! Super sexy!
I can not wait!
I really want to know what that music was in the trailer. Love the distortion.
This is has been one of my must-sees for 2011 and this trailer looks great. The cast is an embarrassment of riches.
The music is from the score of the movie “The Wolfman”.
gonna be hard to screw up this kind of film with a cast that good…bye the bye, want some hardcore Oldham, see “Romeo is Bleeding”
Hell yes! Great cast. Criminal that he has never been nominated. Underrated: Oldman in “State of Grace” with Sean Penn.
wow- an adult thriller. Has the look of a British film from the 60′s . Looks great
This looks so good! This is the sort of thinking person’s thriller that was made routinely prior to the early 80′s.
Sadly, I’ll bet it gets a limited release.
