On his Twitter account, Tom Hanks just debuted Employee Of The Month, a new trailer for Larry Crowne, the film he co-wrote, directed and starred in with Julia Roberts. Universal releases it July 1. It’s only the second feature Hanks has directed, after making his debut on 1996′s That Thing You Do! That film was so charming that I’m eager to see what Hanks has come up with here. Studio sez that though the trailer was called Employee of the Month, the movie will be released as Larry Crowne.

on what sexual planet could these two stars seem attracted to one another?
ack
I’m sorry. Larry Crown looks awful! Why can’t Tom Hanks take some risks at this point. Instead, he’s made something by the numbers. Is he that scared of failing? Come on Tom! I see the beats on the screen. It was painful to watch that trailer. Of course, it will end up making money so WTF.
Awful is being nice…this looks like the biggest piece of s&%t since Hanks & Roberts last films. The marketers will be able to lure some ‘chick flick’ idiots into the theatre. But not many…this on stinks a mile away.
I honestly can’t see why Tom and julia would do this movie — it looks terrible and unfunny — but it has to be good right because these two mega stars wanted to do it????? Plus it opens up against transformers. But horrible trailer. Hope it’s good.
Can’t wait to see it. Loved “That Thing You Do” and this looks like another uncynical, feel-good, fun movie. Count me in.
I liked it! Charming and feel good, there’s nothing wrong with that.
I just love Tom Hanks! All i am going to say! LOVE HIM!
The title is as bad as the lack of chemistry these two have.
How did anyone think this title was any good?
Someone basically took a Hallmark Presents tv movie that should’ve starred Kim Delaney and Thomas Gibson and somehow suckered a major studio and stars to make instead.
Odd.
I would actually watch this film if Kim Delaney were in it. Julia Roberts? pass.
Me too!
Great to see Hanks back in his comedic form. Looks fun.
Just shoot me. I mean it. Just f*#King shoot me.
Gladly.
Laughed out loud with both “boyfriend” scenes (the first with Hanks struggling with a zipper and second “I can see through glass).
If has more scenes like that, I’m in. Many could use a good laugh with what’s been going on re the new normal.
What???
Yes, the actor playing the boyfriend was the best thing in this trailer. The film looks like a weak copy of COMMUNITY but with all wrong casting that messes up the tone. Julia Roberts is even styled in her usual rom-co hair and makeup style, and at this point in her acting career she is unwilling or unable to disappear into a real character. With different casting, this could have been good but you’re never going to see these characters as anything other than two big stars pretending.
Yes, that guy playing the boyfriend stole every scene he was in. Amazing. That’s how it works when an actor’s got “it”, and he’s got it:) I remember thinking the same thing about Jeremy Renner ten years ago and look what happened to his career…
This looks so cheesy. This movie should be starring Aaron Eckhardt and Cameron Diaz not Hanks and Roberts.
Saw this trailer before ‘Super 8′ this morning.. even my wife was rolling her eyes and calling the movie dumb.. Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, even from the trailer have ZERO chemistry together.
This movie looks really cute and funny. Congrats Universal on another quality movie. Their streak continues. . . Hollywood take note
Amazing that you can tell whether or not a movie is good just by watching the trailer. I wish I was born with your gift.
You work for Universal, right? Did marketing start tracking comments and order everyone to post their own positive spin?
Tom Hanks peaked with “The Burbs.” It’s all been downhill since then.
I think Hanks is right on the money with this one, tapping into fears of losing everything at a certain age and fear of having to reinvent yourself at mid-life. Talk about relatable to a huge segment of the population. You won’t see the youth audience here, though, which will mean lower receipts. Still, it’s nice to see an adult drama/romance on the screen – more and more rare all the time. I’ll be there.
This will be one of the biggest box office disappointments of the summer. The trailer is so bad, I doubt this movie had any chance of succeeding no matter what time of year it came out, much less during the summer.
Yes, counter-programming…That worked for “Jumping The Broom” and “Something Borrowed” both of which made under $40 million total (opening against a small hit in Thor). Larry Crowne won’t do much better (coming out against Transformers which will be one of the top two grossing movies for the summer).
Is this 1998?
Looks fun. I’m in.
A movie has to be really special before I go to a theater, because the “theater experience” can be a pain. Going to the theater means expensive pop corn and idiots with cell phones. I will probably watch this on tv, though.
ghastly
This trailer made me feel like I was looking at a very poorly written and poorly cast 40-Year Old Virgin.
Does Tom Hanks play a mentally disabled character in this movie? He’s in his late 50′s/early 60′s and just now realizes that a lack of a college education may limit his career options?
My wife will drag me to this, I will be asked what I thought, I will have to tell her..but i will wait until after, then she will say the same thing…that’s why we’re married.
This looks like fun and I love Tom Hanks. But I had no idea what the story was about. There’s learning and hugging. But seriously – what’s the story?
It’s a movie for grown-ups, bitches.
Can’t wait to see it.
The whole film seems to be in the trailer…they meet, they’re cute, they get together. Why should I see this film when I’ve seen the whole premise in highlight form in the trailer?
Love Tom, generally like Julia but what’s the impetus to see this?
