EXCLUSIVE: Jake Kasdan, who directed the pilot for Fox’s New Girl, has signed a one-year development deal with 20th Century Fox Television, the studio that produces the hot new comedy series. Kasdan will serve as an executive producer/director on the series starring Zooey Deschanel, which will air on Tuesdays this fall. He will executive produce the show alongside creator Liz Meriwether, Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, David Finkel and Brett Baer. Additionally, Kasdan will develop projects for 20th TV and, if one of them goes to pilot, he will also direct it. If not, he is expected to helm another pilot for the studio next season. WME-repped Kasdan is directing his second pilot this year, the HBO comedy Spring/Fall starring Tea Leoni and Hope Davis. On the feature side, he most recently directed the Sony comedy Bad Teacher, starring Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake, which opens on Friday.

So if I read this right, there are 6 Exec Producers on this show! That sounds like (ballpark) 200K (probably even more) for Exec Producers. I smell a very, very small staff. A lot of overworked writers who by October will be spent. This is why TV sucks.
Perhaps he can hire Bryce Dallas Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kate Hudson.
Talented bloodlines, too…
Jake, Bryce, Gwyneth and Kate are all talented Hollywood offspring. Their parents should be proud.
I wish he’d do another Zero Effect. I miss the guy that did that movie. I’ll forget about Bad Teacher/Orange County.
Colan Hanks.
saw jake make a speech at his parents wedding anniversary party at their home. he was 18, i think. it is still one of the most touching speeches i can recall. thought he was a good kid then, wish him nothing but success now.
The trailer for this looked great. Whoever said 200k for the ex producers might be short. On the other hand Bad Teacher looks awful. Hope Zooey wears well on tv. She can be a bit too cute at times. I’m willing to take the bet that the show is a hit on another network but is too smart for fox. Great contemporary premise.
FINALLY..that glass lineage ceiling is broken, whew. So glad he was able to claw his way to the top.
