Glee star Jane Lynch gave a taste of what could be in store if she hosts the Emmys in an appearance at a tech conference held by the Wall Street Journal‘s All Things Digital. In the bit, which channeled Lynch’s Glee character Sue Sylvester, she was acting CEO of News Corp., taking over for Rupert Murdoch, who is out of the country on business. (Like Fox, which airs Glee, WSJ is owned by News Corp.) “As acting CEO, I’ll be making some changes while the powers that be are abroad,” Lynch said. Here are a few:
- Closing iPad publication The Daily. “Never heard of it, never used it, so clearly I’ll be shutting that down.”
- “I’ll also be incorporating a comics page into the Wall Street Journal. I’m a big fan of Family Circus. So seemingly mundane, yet dripping with irony.”
- “I’ve also convinced Glenn Beck to stay on at Fox for one final gig — as a dying patient on House, with a horrendous malady. His sickness is consuming him from the inside out.”
- “I’m pretty sure we got Sarah Palin to do a guest spot on Glee. She’ll perform an original tune I penned: Look at Me, I’m Batshit Crazy.” Here is the video:

You can also see Jane Lynch host The Do Something Awards on VH1 this August. She hosted last year and she’s fantastic.
She’s hilarious. Lynch hosting the Emmys would be outstanding!
So far she is not very funny, she should show fox who is boss
and quit taking their paycheck.
It’s a shame when actors get so stridently political and turn off half their audience. Don’t get me started on how hyperbolic and rage-oholic they sound as well. You’d think the studios and networks would tell them to zip it because it does eat into profits when half the country avoids these types like the plague (see Janeane Garofalo).
If those quotes are any indication of Jane Lynch’s hosting abilities, God help us because not one of them was even remotely amusing.
Get a grip. It’s always interesting how people whine about entertainer politics when it’s not to their liking. If you think Jane Lynch sounds “hyperbolic and rage-oholic” then you obviously haven’t seen Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, or any number of Fox entertainers. Or, more likely, you have and think it’s OK for them but not for anyone else, which is usually the case for people who gripe about liberal Hollywood.
Lighten up; they’re just jokes.
Dorothy, In case you didn’t realize – we live in America. Americans – including celebrities – have the right to free speech. People like you who adore Palin want to convert America into a dictatorship. Why is that? Do people like you need someone to tell you what to think and say?
Fortunately, many people aren’t puppets like you.
And you use Janeane Garafolo as an example? Even if she kept her mouth shut, do you think she would be one of Hollywood’s greatest actresses? Her career is exactly where it should be.
Here, let me offer another example of a celebrity who is politically vocal – Sean Penn. Now, what do you have to say about Sean Penn? He is consistently working and he has two Oscars.
Blows your theory out of the water now doesn’t it?

Hollywood is selling a product whether you like it or not. If you ran General Motors would you want the employees and the dealerships running around town saying women are stupid (or some other group that accounts for 50% of the populace)? The answer is of course you wouldn’t because you wouldn’t want to risk offending customers who are never going to buy your product in the future. It has nothing to do with “free speech” (funny how those who criticize Obama etc are automatically accused of being racist in an attempt to silence them) and everything to do with good business.
The Jane Lynch clip above is simply not funny. Sorry. Even if it wasn’t completely one-sided politically it still wouldn’t be funny. Plus her jokes have nothing to do with what she’s supposed to be doing. It’s like hiring a clown to entertain your kids at a birthday party and the clown shows up and starts some rant against gays. WTF? I don’t see her making jokes about Obama or Chris Matthews etc. Just the same targets that Hollywood libs always aim at. Yawn.
Apparently Jane will be just fine! Love it when a Palin joke hits a nerve. Just shows that nothing’s funnier than the truth!! That it’s being delivered by one of Hollywood’s “Out & Proud” members of my community is simply icing on the cake! The great big, gay, over-the-top cake!!!
Um, were those supposed to be funny?
That was hilarious? Family Circus is more entertaining—and original. The only thing funny about Jane Lynch is how often she relies on the personality of her “Glee” character, Sue Sylvester. She is truly the “Foster Brooks” of today’s generation.
Once again, Sarah Palin is in the “crosshairs.” They are expending an awful lot of of energy on a woman who has done nothing to deserve the constant vitriol and hasn’t even announced she is running for any office. Rush Limbaugh proves he is ahead of the curve when analyzing the motivation of the left. They not only believe she can win the Republican nomination but they are also fearful that she could defeat the imbecile currently occupying the white house. She energizes the conservative base like no other potential candidate and they know it. Sarah Palin takes the attacks in stride and has not allowed any of it to deter her ambition. She is indeed the “teflon lady.”
I am old enough to remember the outrageous caricature they constructed to define Ronald Reagan when he ran against the peanut farmer during the 1980 presidential election. The left-wing media reserves its most potent venom for the people they fear the most.
Debate the issues? Of course not, they know they can’t win. It’s much easier to commit character assassination.
Yikes… Not so funny…
Dorothy, Jane Lynch stars on Glee. GLEE! Do you really think there are many fans of the show who don’t share most of Jane Lynch’s personal views? I don’t imagine half the audience are conservative Republicans. And yes, she was funny. I love that woman.
She’s completely awesome! I don’t watch Glee every week but when i do fall on it, she is the only good thing about it.. I have always enjoyed her work and would love to see her hosting the Emmys.
Just plain mean… it’s sad.
Come on now, some of that is funny. However, the real story is how the WSJ made the decision to put Jane Lynch in this environment without really knowing what her political views are. How come WSJ didn’t inquire about those views to the higher ups at Fox Broadcasting? Embarrassing to say the least although you have to admit, Fox News remains undeterred in their journalistic slant regardless of most anything being thrown its way. Has anyone even thought a whiff about Glen Beck since he was fired? Hot flames are no match for gleaming teflon!
Used to love her. now she’s on Glee
I think the Glenn Beck joke is in very poor taste.
I guess Jane Lynch doesn’t know that he is seriously ill and that’s one of the major reasons why he decided not to re-new his contract with Fox.
To make fun of his act is one thing but to joke about a how ill a person is out of line.
Boy – thought the same thing. Shows that people who like to ridicule Beck dont ever pick up his show where he spoke about his medical issues. “Horrendous malady”? “Sickness”? How creepy and insensitive can you get considering his condition.
Really tacky on the part of Lynch – but exactly what you expect from her crowd.
Really Nick…he is seriously ill? Really?
We all remember the day when there was a pack of cool kids who would pick on someone and sometimes they were funny but more often mean. And kids on the fringe would laugh along for awhile until they figured out that the cool pack wasnt so cool and could turn on them or any other target just as easily. Picking on Palin, Beck, etc is getting old folks. Done to death. So yesterday. And it makes the people still doing it look like they didnt get the memo or they have nothing else in their bag of tricks – or they are so insecure they have to remind the boss that “we hate conservatives just like you do”.
No class, no creativity, no humor and minimal talent. No wonder tv is down.
Well said.
I am not a fan of Beck or Palin, but aren’t jokes about them getting EXTREMELY hackneyed and overdone?
Is that the best Lynch can do? Like many great actors, I guess she’s only as good as her material.
The everlasting need to be “edgy” I guess. I actually loved Jane Lynch in some of her previous roles, before she became such a political harpy.
@AaronSch oh, I’m sorry but could you please provide even just ONE example of anyone on the right debating an issue ever in the past 15 years instead of resorting to, as you say, ‘character assassination’?
Oh silly me, of course you can’t , because no such example exists. My B shorty.
I knew there was a reason I never watched Glee. Her name is Jane. Now I know to look for her name and avoid anything she does at all cost. A bigot and biased actress who believes her own PR.
If I want to watch political commentators then I’ll turn on the cable news channel to watch it. I don’t need to see it when I want to watch the Emmys or other shows.
And to another comment in this thread…
Beck wasn’t fired, you don’t fire the 3rd highest rated cable news show 2 years running! He decided not re-new his contract due to health reasons and he want’s to leave New York.
I love Jane Lynch. I’m a big fan and I loved the story arc in Glee that involved Sue’s sister with Down’s Syndrome. I thought it was very tender and well-developed.
Having said that, I’m kind of tired of the political jokes; they’re really just low-hanging fruit, and, for that reason, not funny anymore.
What happened to entertainers like Carol Burnett or Bob Newhart, that made us laugh, but didn’t need to be nasty or politically charged to do so?
Not in the business. Just someone who digs this site.
I would respect Jane Lynch more if her humor was more inclusive, original and engaging. This “taking jabs” stuff lacks creativity.
And, bottom line, IT’S NOT ENTERTAINGING, FOLKS!
I was wondering where my brother heard the word “vitriol”…
