Jason Patric has been tapped as the male lead in the FX drama pilot Powers. Based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the project, written by Charles H. Eglee and to be directed by Michael Dinner, is a police procedural set in a world where superpowers are relatively common. It centers on two detectives, Christian Walker (Patric) and Deena Pilgrim (Lucy Punch), in a Homicide department that deals with cases involving “powers” (people with superpowers). Eglee, Dinner, David Engel and Bendis are executive producing for Sony Pictures TV and FX Prods. Filming is slated for mid-summer in Chicago. If Powers goes to series, it will mark Patric’s first regular series gig. Last year, he co-starred in the HBO comedy pilot Tilda. In features, Patric, repped by ICM and Untitled, was most recently seen in The Losers.

LOVE THIS CASTING!!! Huge fan of the comic writer Bendis. Hopefully this is a winner for FX in the non comedy dept.
It’s Brian Michael Bendis, dudes. Comic fans won’t know who this Brian Bendis guy is.
Ongoing comic series not “graphic novel”.
Just sayin.
#nitpicking
Fuck yeah. Love it.
HOLLYWOOD, FOR CHRIST’S SAKE STOP WITH THE SUPER-HEROES AND SUPER-POWERS EVERY FUCKING 5 SECONDS! JESUS. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE CAPS BUT I AM GOING INSANE FROM THIS SUPER-HERO AND SUPER-POWERS OVERLOAD.
People are sick of this shit. Please, anything but the goddam super-heroes. ANything…dear fucking god, I cannot take one more super-powers TV show or film.
Says YOU!
Then don’t watch it, NO! Stick to your Kevin James’ movies.
If this is true FX now has the coolest pilot of 2011. POWERS is an awesome read. A Dark, vilolent, extremely sexy meshing of two genres that has never been attempted. I can’t wait to see what they do in live format. Jason Patric is without question one of our greatest actors. Who goes from Lost Boys to Rush in three years? He has sort of disappeared like some JD Salinger of actors, only occasionally showing up. I can only hope they let him do his thing because he could KILL Walker as a character.
Crossing my fingers as Patric is notorious for saying no and pulling out of projects.
That’s it. Show’s over. This just killed it.
Great choice!
Between Lucy Punch rocking the attitude as Deena, and Jason Patric killing the depths hidden under stoicism as Walker, this bodes very well for the pilot.
I think I’m gonna go re-read the ‘Who Killed Retro Girl? compilation..
Wasn’t Kyle Chandler supposed to be in this?
Yeah, I thought that as well. He would have been great. What happend? Why did they have to move on to Jason Patric?
Enjoy working with Jason and all his lovely personalities. Feel worst for first AD.
Hey OhNo,
Just worked with Jason onstage and he was the funniest, hardest working, most talented guy I ever had the pleasure to be around. I’d love to know what you did with him. Typical jealous , snarky Deadline no job.
Jason is well-known as being difficult, has been for decades. Typical apologist, myopic Deadline one job.
I’m pretty sure POWERS is gonna be my favorite FX series since THE SHIELD.
Farber,
you are an idiot. Ever see RUSH, NARC, YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS? How about noir classic AFTER DARK MY SWEET. Even in a sugary crap movie like SISTERS KEEPER, he is the best and most believeable thing about it. LOSERS, another piece of garbage that he made hysterical.
Just saw him on stage in THAT CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON and it was one of the best performances I have ever seen. I don’t know how they convinced him, but he will be GREAT in this. Perfect fit.
Go play with your Han Solo doll.
He was good in Rush. That’s about it. Everything else? Dull. Not one-note, half-note. Always disappoints.
i wanted to love Narc, but one single episode of Law And Order or any other quality TV show had more energy than the entire film Narc. Jason should have won “Best Sideburns” for his work in Narc.
Friends And Neighbors – I gotta give it to Jason for his acting there. He was excellent and very believable.
Right on Brother!
He was terrific in “THAT CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON”. Knew him since he started acting and he is perfect for this part.
What till award time comes. He will be right up there with Jon Hamm.
The procedural mash-up that should be going to series but isn’t? 17th Precinct.
Jason is a fine actor but working with him is like playing with fire, he’ll shine brightly but you will get burned.
Farber,
You are the myopic one. Good in just RUSH? Are you nuts? His monologue in YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS is one of the best monologues in the history of American film. The complexity of language and subject materal was beyond. If Jason played the game he would have been nominated at least four times. AFTER DARK MY SWEET, RUSH, YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS, NARC. One note? Take a look at EXPIRED you dope. Patric has more range than Crowe, or Pitt, or Clooney, or Cruise, orDamon, or Gosling, or DiCaprio. Patric is a throwback to the old time leading man.
Dude you are aware that he didn’t write that mono in Rush, right? Complexity of language and subject material? Dude it’s english and the guy who wrote who knows how its supposed to be delivered was standing 10 feet away directing him. Come’on 10 year olds win Acad Awards for acting. Delivering a non-live well written mono isnt a feat of greatness.
I like Patric, but geesh.
Well, judging from the photo and the accompanying drawing, he certainly has the jaw for the job.
To quote Stewie Griffin:
“Jason Patric, ewwwwwwwwwwww!”
Bendis, while a prolific comic book writer, is hardly consistent; this pilot has some promise as the original source material is one of his best works. This casting, however, has made me lose almost all interest.
Jason is one of the angriest most malcontented actors I’ve ever known!! He thinks he’s curing cancer and is way too precious about his job called pretend! Good luck! Life’s too short!
