Bill Lawrence’s Doozer production banner is taking a step towards becoming a major comedy pod with the hire of Jeff Ingold as president, the first time the company has had a dedicated development executive. The deal with former NBC head of comedy Ingold comes just as Lawrence is starting his long-term, eight-figure deal with Warner Bros. TV, which has allowed him to staff up and grow his company. Ingold had been rumored to possibly join Lawrence as the two have a great relationship going back to the days when Ingold served as the executive on Lawrence’s NBC comedy Scrubs from the the medical comedy series’ very beginning. With Ingold on board, Doozer can jump into development right away as he will be able to oversee new projects, while Lawrence works on Cougar Town. Under Lawrence’s agreement with WBTV, he will continue as showrunner on his ABC/ABC Studios series for one more season before focusing on development for WBTV one hundred percent. Ingold, who exited NBC at the end of May, served as EVP comedy at the network since 2008. In his final development season, he shepherded six comedy projects to series orders, the most for any broadcast network in years. In all, Ingold spent more than a decade at NBC and served as a comedy executive at both the network and UMS.

It’s a perfect fit. Bill Lawrence doesn’t like to get notes and Jeff doesn’t know how to give them. Bill wants someone to yes him to death and Jeff has a gift for that.
I’ve worked with Bill, he’s open to notes from anyone, just not dummies. Jeff is not a dummy, are you?
Wow, bitter party of one, table in the corner out in the cold. Bet they sell and produce a bunch of shows. You will improve your crop rotation strategy on Farmville.
Enjoy!
Jeff really did develop some great shows for NBC. He and Bill are going to crush it.
What “great shows” did Jeff ever develop?
he was making the primetime comedy decisions at NBC during one of the worse streaks in network TV history, a streak they still can’t shake. Paul Reiser’s show? Outsourced?
he’s failing… definitely not upwards. sideways, slightly downwards….
Bill is without a doubt one of the greatest guys in the field. He’s got character, integrity, smarts and is funny as sh#t. Hope this is a great new chapter for him.
Great! Two half-talents make a whole! I think…
This site always panders to cute female execs, no one is going to say anything about these two handsome guys? Too cute for TV ( usually a nerdfest).
Congrats to Jeff. Smart, talented guy who is well liked in the biz and will absolutely kill it for Lawrence. In my experience, Jeff has been very supportive of new writers–and writers in general. This is a very good thing for aspiring television scribes.
