CBS is staying in the Jeff Probst business. Syndication arm CBS Television Distribution has signed the Emmy-winning host of Survivor to develop a first-run talk show set to debut in fall 2012. The one-hour talker will cover topics ranging from newsmakers of the day to families and individuals facing challenges. “There’s no one else in daytime TV like Jeff Probst. He is interested in finding the answers to the same questions our audience is asking, which makes him relatable to both women and men,” CTD president John Nogawski said. “Jeff’s unique perspective and curiosity about human nature, combined with our track record of success with the #1 and #2 talk shows for years, is going to make this show a must buy for the Fall of 2012. We are thrilled to be working on Jeff’s next success story and drawing from his experience on the hit prime-time show Survivor.” Probst has filled in for Regis Philbin on Live With Regis and Kelly, and he was a regular guest host on Larry King Live. ”I’m fascinated with human nature and thrilled that this show will allow me the opportunity to connect with real people and explore their stories on a personal level,” he said. “As I continue with Survivor, I am excited to extend my relationship with CBS with this new adventure in the world of daytime.”

It’s about time they figured out this guy has a great ability to get people to talk. I love jeff Probst. He is smart and has a dry sense of humor.
100 times more excited about what he’ll bring to the talk show circuit then i was about Jimmy Fallon!
Jeff Probst is a great choice for a talk show host. I was hoping he’d eventually join Kelly Ripa as Regis’ replacement. He’s shown tremendous likability and humor whenever he’s filled in on “Regis & Kelly.” Best of luck to him. I’ll be watching!
Just what TV needs, another talkshow.
Congrats all the way to Probst.
Clearly Michelle isn’t a daytime TV watcher. I’m sure he is a nice guy, but this is a very bland choice. This will be the toughest show to book as it has snoozefest written all over it. I hope I’m wrong.
The appeal of talk show hosts (such as Oprah, back when she debuted) is that they are ‘real people’ that the audience feels comfortable with and that they can relate with them. For these up-coming talking heads such as Probst, Couric and Cooper they all have these brands to protect. The likelihood of Jeff Probst showing any kind of venerability seems slim. Why aren’t networks discovering new talent anymore? This is very boring, almost as boring as Katie Couric but nicer on the eyes.
always thought Jeff would be perfect for a talk show espically when survivor is done for good. and glad cbs agrees looks like the talk show is rising and coming the latest trend again.
Probst is also a huge Howard Stern fan. Hopefully he’ll bring Howard’s fearless interviewing style to his own show.
Give the guy a friggin chance. Everyone thought Frasier would suck – second acts can be stellar.
Frasier???
Frasier? Frasier was a scripted comedy based on a successful character from a hugely successful classic comedy. Probst isn’t spinning off from a Survivor show. Bad analogy Jake.
Probst is likable but with Anderson Cooper and Katie Couric taking to the airwaves we’ll have two seasoned pros who can do fluff and international news/culture/politics and the lighter fare will stay with the comic legend Ellen and the wild card unique tone of Wendy Williams.
Where does that leave Probst? Nowhere.
Tony Danza. Greg Behran or whatever his name was and now Jeff Probst.
Bad call. This will be cancelled in the first half of the season.
Great news. I’ll watch him. He does his job on Survivor, he has personality, sense of humor, he’s the perfect host, and he’s a nice guy. He took the time to answer my Survivor questions while he was working out at his gym. sweating and smiling at the same time.
Until the syndie gurus figure out the next Oprah will come from either an indy TV station or one of their mid-size or smaller network affiliates, expect to see piles of money being wasted on these hack-rags of shows.
You’d think someone in a position of authority would have figured that out by now. They’re all overleveraged, though, so a Katie Couric or Jeff Probst is more sellable. And the beat goes on…
bet he gets even lesser known celebrity guests than the talk
