EXCLUSIVE: Meet television’s Mitchell McDeere. Josh Lucas is in final negotiations to play the lead in NBC’s midseason drama The Firm, marking his first major TV series gig. The series, based on the hit Paramount feature starring Tom Cruise as McDeere and on John Grisham’s best-selling novel, picks up the story 10 years after the events of the film and novel. As a young associate, McDeere brought down a prestigious Memphis law firm, which operated as a front for the Chicago mob — and his life was never the same. After a difficult decade, which included a stay in the Federal Witness Protection program, Mitch and his family now emerge from isolation to reclaim their lives and their future — only to find that past dangers are still lurking and new threats are everywhere.
The Firm is produced by Entertainment One in association with Sony Pictures TV Networks and Paramount Pictures, with Grisham, Lukas Reiter, John Morayniss, Michael Rosenberg and Noreen Halpern executive producing. Lucas has been heavily pursued for series in the past few years but had largely stayed away before he responded to the script for The Firm. The WME-repped actor was most recently seen in the feature adaptation of another best-selling novel about an attorney, The Lincoln Lawyer. He just wrapped Medalian and will next be seen in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, in which he plays Charles Lindbergh, and Red Dog.

Great news! Josh is a fantastic actor — one of the few willing to take risks with big studio projects as well as edgy uber low-budget films. He’ll bring a solid, welcome gravitas to network TV!
He is a great actor and burst on the screen with Sweet Home Alabama — I was wondering who could fill Tom Cruise’s shoes and Josh lucas is perfect.
The Firm as a television series as outlined in this story…sounds awful. Can’t imagine how they could keep this fresh and interesting on a weekly basis.
Agreed. Would have been better as a reboot than a sequel series. Enough time has passed since the original film anyway. Make it a legal series with the arc that a rookie lawyer starts to suspect something is amiss at his firm. This sounds worse than their Ally McBeal take on Wonder Woman. I bet it’s DOA.
Yeah I mean the original movie came out in the 90s. Such a long time ago. This just proves how lazy executives can be.
Perhaps THE FIRM is just a great story and the ‘executives’ feel that this is the best way to continue that story and give the fans something more after so many years…
Kiersten Warren for the Holly Hunter role! Been a fan since Nip/Tuck.
I’m sure Kiersten Warren is thrilled that her agent or manager doesn’t know the difference between Holly Hunter and Jeanne Tripplehorn.
Dear uhh (aptly named) –
Holly Hunter was fantastic in THE FIRM. Far more interesting on screen than Jeanne Tripplehorn.
Really, is it that hard to check IMDb before making an ass of yourself by both criticizing someone else’s comment and calling them a plant? Or are you just too busy rolling calls and making CB&TL runs to bother?
The book was good and the movie was great. This version may be a hit.
That’s not Bradley Cooper?
Did I miss the part on who would be showrunning this?
Logical next step for Josh. He was on my list of “why isnt he/she looking for a tv show” a list that Rene Russo still leads.
Zac Effron. Fresher choice.
Surprising how much Josh Lucas looks like Grisham, too. Not taking anything at all away from his talent, and glad he got this role, but I’ve always thought the two looked like brothers.
Can’t believe you are the only one to comment on how much Josh Lucas looks like John Grisham -
You know what always works well for NBC? Ordering a show to series before it’s cast or filmed a pilot. Look no further than L&O:LA. See how well that worked out? #WINNING!
Boy I think you could have gone fresher and YOUNGER . Josh has had his time and he just misses.
This is a big project that needs a special guy. This is the one that could have used someone like Ashton
or find that guy that is the next Tom Cruise.

The big difference though is that The Firm is going to air midseason and not in the fall. Also, Law & Order: SVU was ordered straight to series in 1999.
I love watching Josh. I hope it’s a hit!
Luke Reiter
I think people should look at josh’s raw talent as opposed to his age; it should not matter how old he is as long as he can deliver a great performance and bring in the ratings and make it a hit!, thats all the SHOULD matter!
Besides that he is wonderful looking!
I love Josh Lucas. I always felt like he would make and excellent James Bond! He is very sexy!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Josh Lucas. I read The Firm AND IT WAS GOOD. I ALSO loved the movie, and I will be eager to see Josh, I mean the series. I thought Josh was great in the Lincoln Lawyer, and wanted to see more of him. GOOD LUCK! I hope it will be a hit!
i think Josh Lucas is a very talented actor as well as very sexy his fantastic and since Red Dog Iam a huge fan of his.
