EXCLUSIVE: Karen Croner has been set to script Hello Ghost, the film inspired by the Korean comedy about a man whose failed suicide attempt allows him to see ghosts who haunt him until he grants each of them one wish. Chris Columbus will direct a film that will be financed by CJ Entertainment, which has a first-look deal with Columbus and his 1492 banner. Columbus set Hello Ghost up in February 2011 with Next Entertainment World, the Korean distributor and financier. Croner, who’d been known for dramas that included the Meryl Streep-starrer One True Thing, continues to make a switch to comedy. She scripted Admission, which Paul Weitz will direct with Tina Fey starring, and Croner just finished Kiss and Tango for Jennifer Lopez and producer Denise DiNovi at Fox 2000. She’s repped by WME.

Thought he was directing a Houdini project? He needs bigger scope material again.
Good for Karen. Nice person. CAA blew it when they repped her. Nice to see her career finally on an upswing.
Did Karen C leave CAA to change the niche she was writing in? I’m curious about that. Is WME pushing her as a comedy writer now?
CAA showed her the door and she’s totally reinvented herself as a comedy writer and has a project with Tina Fey. WME is very lucky. Hope they know what they’ve got! CAA pushed her into period drama and wouldn’t see her as anything else. Croner has the last laugh.
Why did CAA ‘show her the door’? That’s hard to believe. She’s a talented working writer.
Guys, don’t give so much power (or ink) to CAA or agents in general. This is a writer
who busted her ass and reinvented her career. It’s up to all of us to do that
ourselves and create opportunities for ourself.
