With Chris Meloni out and Mariska Hargitay back part-time, Law & Order: SVU has locked co-star Ice-T full-time for next season. And the following one, if the veteran crime drama is renewed for a 14th season. Ice-T made the announcement on Twitter this morning. “I’ve just locked in my new SVU deal,” he wrote. “So I’ll officially be back for the next 2 years at least. DONE.” Meanwhile, the search continues for Meloni’s replacement. It is still in a wish-list stage, and I hear there is even a scenario where the new lead would be female, working alongside Hargitay’s Det. Olivia Benson. As for Jennifer Love Hewitt, who had been talked about as a potential new addition when Hargiay scales back her duties in the second half of the season, I hear that is not happening.

Good news. I’ve admired Ice-T’s work since his epic work on the song Cop Killer. Good to know he will be on Law & Order for two more years.
I agree…Ice is not used enough on SVU. He and Mariska would be good partners because they are opposites. Hopefully Belzer comes back as well.

Good for him….I like his backstory. It could be very strong for the show as he moves more into the role of a main character. I wonder if Belcher is coming back….totally love those cats together.

Munch and Finn should both become the lead detectives. They’ve put in their dues. They deserve it. Richard Belzer and Ice-T have great chemistry and are seriously underutilized.
Great to see you locked in Bro. You and ICE-T’s characters are a joy to watch. My late night ritual is watching SVU and CI re-runs. NBC F’ed up going cheap on Meloni, but it’s the ensemble that has made SVU work all these years. I look forward to every to seeing every character on the show. Also Wolf’s writers and editors are amazing It takes a lot of skilled people on both sides of the camera to put together such an epic winner. If Meloni is truly gone, it would be outstanding to see D’Nofrio replace him, if he could accept the reduction in air time.

Bring back Connie Nielsen. She was the best thing to happen to SVU in YEARS.
Thank you for that!!! I agree wholeheartedly! Connie Nielsen WAS the best thing that happened to the show. When she showed up, it almost felt like there was literally, LITERALLY an injection of pure adrenaline!!! She brought pain, instability, heart and soul to the show, something that the show was in desperate need of.

Maria Bello is in “Prime Suspect”. Plus in the SVU world, she played a junky.
I’m not sure I would want to see Benson partnered with a woman. I, too, think a Finn/Benson pairing would be great. They seem to have chemistry and they play off each others’ strengths well. The bonus would be if they put Finn and Munch front and center whenever Hargitay would not be in the episode.
I’m so glad Fin will be back. He could be Olivia’s new partner, if only for the 1st half of the season. I’ve seen them together recently (an earlier rerun) and liked them together a lot. Now that he is getting a little more air time on SVU and the “Ice loves Coco” reality series this summer, it could be a really good fit! That way it would give the network time to find another actor to fill Elliot’s slot! …and what about Munch????
So glad he’s back! I’d much rather see him in a bigger role than seeing Meloni at all. And Fin/Benson episodes are my absolute favorites. They have great chemistry and Fin always treats her as an equal. But I’d also like to Belzer coming back. TPTB have always worried too much about CM and MH they forget about the other characters that make this show great.
Finn/Benson and Finn/Munch when she is off as said above. It would be a class act.

The real story is the NEW Law And Order Criminal Intent with VDO. This is the gold standard. Every episode as good as a film.

Agree with the Benson/Fin scenario. Love Mariska and Ice together and they haven’t used their strengths as a duo enough.
I’d like to see the “Darius” plotline revisited! Even though he, Fin, and Fin’s son Kin parted ways after the 8th(?) finale “Screwed”, it would be interesting to see Ludacris back for “an arc” next season!
