Burbank, CA (June 28, 2011) – Legendary Comics has partnered with Frank Miller, the iconic writer and artist of SIN CITY, 300 and THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, to publish HOLY TERROR, a dark, uncompromising superhero tale for the modern era. The announcement was made today by Bob Schreck, Editor-in-Chief of Legendary Comics.
In HOLY TERROR, join The Fixer, a brand new, hard-edged hero as he battles terror. The graphic novel is a no-holds-barred action thriller told in Miller’s trademark high-contrast, black-and-white visual style, which seizes the political zeitgeist by the throat and doesn’t let go until the last page.
“It has been my extreme pleasure and honor to have worked so closely with Frank for over 20 years now,” says Schreck. “Holy Terror finds Frank at the top of his game. A fast paced, biting commentary on our uncertain and volatile times, told with some of the most gut-wrenching, iconic images he’s ever produced.”
HOLY TERROR is a 120 page hardcover graphic novel with spot-color interiors presented in a 10 x 13 landscape format. Distributed by Diamond Books, HOLY TERROR retails for $29.99 and will be in stores on September 14.

This was originally going to be a Batman story. Penned about the time George Bush decided to invade Iraq and Frank Miller’s response to anyone who thought that was a bad idea (and who wasn’t a true patriot). Batman was literally going to kill Osama Bin Laden. Miller was paid $1M to do it by DC.
Then politics changed… the rumored Weapons of Mass Destruction were never found… etc…
I am very curious to see how such a ridiculous Batman story from my (once) favorite comicbook writer/artist is transformed into this final product.

Frank Miller took YEARS to finish this story, and when he finally does he releases it in what’s sure to be the craziest month in comic book history. That’s funny
Islamo-fascists! Comin’ over the hill!
good artist + bad political view = a terrible product
@superchopper…I figured it was the Batman story reworked when I saw the headline. But was the $1M from DC a pay-or-play thing? In other words when DC decided not to do it (for whatever reason) did they lose that money?
Not sure. I would guess that whatever costs DC fronted, Legendary bought out.
s
Miller’s work lapsed into self-parody years ago.
This will be the most unintentionally hilarious comic since Miller & Lee’s Batman All Stars. Can’t wait! “I’m the godammed Fixer!”
The only major cartoonist taking on the bastards, cannot wait.
Same here!
The Spirit was unwatchable. What the heck happened to Frank Miller? Seems like an all too typical trajectory for a lot of storytellers.
Despite peoples misgivings about the project I have to give kudos to legendary for getting Schreck. And Schreck for getting this. It’s a hell of a way to launch an comic book division.
They got him because DC fired his ass after Miller turned in a script with a ton of F and C bombs that were supposed to be blacked out but ended up being printed. Schreck is the lucky one.
Never forgiven Miller for The Dark Knight Strikes Again. This sounds like something from the fifties.
personally all star batman was a terrific comic series. oh im sorry but low sales showed it to be a failure. [tongue firmly planted in the cheek of those who "hated" his all star batman series (...BUT MOST LIKELY BOUGHT IT & boarded & bagged it...heh hehe)].
…as with all of miller’s work, this will also be a hit.
…and for all of those who “negatively criticize” his work before seeing it, why dont you all practice what you preach in regards to freedom of the press/art/speech:
please either READ THE SERIES/BOOK FIRST & THEN CRITICIZE IT OOOOR WAIT FOR A REVIEW FROM ONE OF THE MANY INDUSTRY REVIEWERS AND THEN THROW STONES.
I FIND THAT TO THROW NEGATIVE CRITICISM AT AN ARTIST’S WORK SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU DONT AGREE WITH HIS POINT OF VIEW…POLITICS OR OTHERWISE…SHOWS YOU NO BETTER THAN THOSE WHO PREACH CENSORSHIP WITH SOMETHING THEY DONT AGREE WITH OR EVEN WANT TO ATTEMPT TO UNDERSTAND AN OPPOSING POINT OF VIEW.
let her rip folks…
calm down, Frank, this is just the internet
I will be glad to be known as Frank’s alter ego but alas no such luck. just a shmuck from upstate NY who luvs frank.
cheers sport.
Here’s the thing, Lu, I’ve read a lot of Millers work. I’ve also seen both of the movies he co-directed and the two Robocop’s he is credited on. I’m very familiar with his oeuvre. And just like you might not need to see the new Larry Clark film* to make a judgment about its political content, I don’t necessarily need to read Miller’s new comic book about a super hero killing Osama Bin Laden because I know where it’s coming from and what themes it is exploiting.
The real shame is, if this were written as a satire it could be brilliant. But Miller has never mentioned anything about this work acting a deconstruction of the popularity of super heroes in the wake of 9/11.
*I’m a big Clark fan, for the record. I just picked him because he is divisive, to say the least.

wow so you can make a decision without even looking/reading the work of art. your a genius. I could use your same inhibitions about anything or anyone i disagree with. really its quite amazing how certain people will simply condemn a work. your intolerance basically no better than those who threaten the danish artists except you arent into violence…HOWEVER you all spring from the same source: FEAR FOR WHAT U DONT UNDERSTAND.
At least Miller puts his fear into being creative and not being violent towards those he disagrees with.
Its too bad those who feel afraid of what miller & the usa stands for cant debate or produce works of art to counter him/us instead of blind criticism and blind hatred.
oh and BTW Hunter D, one of the most liberal leaders of the free world order an assassination on Bin Laden. I suppose you are/were against that too???
Miller simply takes out Bin Laden with a superhero. “oh how hateful…”
well the nazis were hateful too. and the commies and now Bin Laden and his krew. oh well he got his ass kicked. If frank didnt WRITE about it or DRAW it, then Obama has PHYSICALLY DONE it.
what is the big deal here folks???
Nobody’s saying this shouldn’t be allowed to be published, just that it will probably be terrible (although maybe not the art). Stop yapping on about freedom of speech and censorship
Do you know what’s worth than an opposing political point of view? All caps typing.

Did you mean to say at least you CAN spell?
I don’t think censorship means what you think it does.
Frank Miller should count his lucky stars that some people still find him relevant. He hasn’t put out a readable book in over a decade and the Spirit was just further proof that Robert Rodriguez was the sole reason why Sin City was watchable.
Frank Miller doesn’t care–his stuff has been shit for years. and I suspect he’s here. Hi, “Lu”. His work has sucked for years, his art is basically a swipe file on parade of stolen images. Once he stopped working with Klaus Janson, his stuff lost that polished look. Once he stopped working with Lyn Varley, his stuff became even more misogynistic.
Unlike Alan Moore, he doesn’t know how to tell a coherent story. Look at “THE SPIRIT”–all his purported love for Will Eisner and he made that? without Zack Snyder or Robert rodriguez, his stuff is unwatchable.
Miller imploded after Dark Knight Strikes Again.
Cemented his irrelevence after The Spirit.
He’s finished.
End of story.
Frank has got a dark grim humour…maybe its just his twisted sense of humor at work…i sure hope so…
Lets read it and see…
