More fresh blood is being added to CBS’ Blue Bloods as the cop/family drama is undergoing creative tweaks going into its second season. Veteran series director-producer Michael Pressman has joined the CBS TV Studios-produced series as co-executive producer/director. He directed two episodes of Blue Bloods‘ first season and has a long history at CBS, where he served as executive producer on Chicago Hope, The Guardian and two David E. Kelley series, Picket Fences and The Brotherhood of Poland, N.H. Another veteran, Law & Order alum Ed Zuckerman, was recently tapped as the new showrunner on Blue Bloods, succeeding the series’ creators Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green, who exited at the end of last season.

Nothing but a pro.
Props to Pressman!
Agreed. He’ll be a great addition.
I guess they aren’t overly converned with bringing a younger, fresher persepctive to the show. The two BB episodes he directed were nothing special.
Talk to the writing staff about that, Steve…
It isn’t just the writing that needs improvement, although I will agree that was the bigger problem.
Both the directing and writing were simplistic and predictable.
You were watching CBS… what did you expect? If you’re looking for unexpected, don’t watch TV.
Well, I’d really say “don’t watch network TV”. There is some compelling stuff occasionally on cable. But, yes, there is an aroma on CBS all over this show. This has the makings of a good (not great) drama. But reality is left behind for stereotypical CBS maudlin mangling. The age group to which they cater wants family values when the bad guys get killed. They want old folks to be wise and everyone to have principals that cannot be bought. They play strongly to emotional themes. Not bad qualities, but unless they are in the hands of a skilled writing staff they simply come off as trite. Selleck carries the show. I imagine they’ll be running him for mayor before too long.
Michael’s a terrific person, even handed and up to dealing with very difficult talent.
Who’s watching network tv for great writing really. Viewers watch out of habit… it is all about the lead in show at CBS anyway. Everything has been done before with a police drama so all a showrunner has to do is get the first season of Police Story and rip it off.
