With Chernin Entertainment expanding into comedy this past season with its first half-hour series orders for New Girl and the animated Allen Gregory, the company has hired a dedicated high-level comedy executive. Former NBC SVP Jane Wiseman is joining the company as SVP Comedy, reporting to President of Television Katherine Pope. Chernin already has a drama head, Lauren Stein, so Wiseman will be her comedy counterpart. Wiseman recently left NBC, where she served as SVP Comedy Development for the network and Universal Media Studios. This past season, she oversaw the development of such upcoming series as Up All Night starring Christina Applegate and Will Arnett; Whitney, from stand-up comedian Whitney Cummings; and Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea. Wiseman’s departure, which I heard happened before the May exit of NBC and UMS’ EVP Comedy Development Jeff Ingold, is part of the network’s ongoing executive changes under new chief Bob Greenblatt, which include the hire of Tal Rabinowitz as new head of comedy. During her tenure at NBC, Wiseman, who joined the network in 2005 as VP Comedy Development, developed such series as Parks and Recreation and Community while also spending time in the Alternative Department developing reality series. At NBC and UMS, she worked with Pope, who held several top jobs there, most recently president of UMS until her departure at the end of 2008. Before NBC, Wiseman was director of comedy development at Fox, where she was instrumental in the development of Arrested Development and The Simple Life.

Smartest hire ever.
Yay Jane! She’s the best.
So is Tasha Brown still at Chernin Entertainment? Seems like there are a whole lot of executives there for minimal content. I hope this means they are going to ramp up with significantly more projects.
I guess all you have to do to get hired at Chernin TV is get fired from NBC.
That’s so mean spirited!
Chernin is lucky to have her.
Love this town! Relationships are everything. Who cares about track record.
Relationships are everything in every business in the world, numbnuts.
HILARIOUS! So true…
Uh, there are actually quite a few businesses and professions where ability still matters. Professional sports, for instance. Bill Bilichik’s son-in-law could be a decent high school quarterback at West Podunk High, but that kid ain’t replacing Tom Brady.
By comparison you can fake your way through most any job related to movies (including producing them).
Jane is smart, cool, and gets comedy better than 99% of the execs in this town. Betcha Chernin becomes a major player because of her.
What happened to Pavun Shetty? I just had a meeting with him. Great.
He is still around just sitting there and being pretty.
he’s so dreamy!
And if you prefer blondes they have an assistant over there, Chris Markey, who is handsome for days.
I heard he released a work out video. “gettin’ sweaty with Shetty.” guy is in great shape.
I agree, Chernin is definitely lucky to have her. She’s the best!
Transformers 2 was not as good as the first one. Also, no hogan hire. I only want to hear about hires with hogans.
Jane and Pavun will make a fantastic team!
so so so happy for jane!
Jane is a fantastic executive and a true lover of comedy. This is going to take them to the next level!
