Minutes after NBC canceled freshman The Event on the unlucky Friday, May 13, the show’s creator Nick Wauters and executive producer Steve Stark told fans that there was a possibility for the sci-fi drama to continue elsewhere. That possibility is now taking shape. I hear there are talks with Syfy to pick up The Event as a miniseries. Helping things is the fact that Syfy and The Event producer, Universal Media Studios, are NBCUniversal corporate siblings. But migrating a broadcast show to cable is never easy, and I hear discussions are underway to see if it would be financially feasible for The Event to continue on Syfy. If that happens and if the mini does well, it could potentially launch another season of the alien drama. Syfy has been active post-upfronts this year. The cable network also has been kicking the tires of the Fox pilot Locke & Key, but there haven’t been any substantial discussions.

Awesome. We love this show! Its our new Lost.
The SyFy Channel needs to redeem itself by picking up The Event & V. At the same time they should rid themselves of the steroid popping idiots that wrestle in their underwear.
That’s the only way SyFy is making any money… WWE wrestling.
It surely ain’t the cooking show or the ghost hunting with fat people show.
I’m not convinced THE EVENT will be any better in SyFy’s hands…
Their track record for quality programing is a D-
The Event was just terrible. It was obvious that the writers had no clue what direction they wanted to go. It got to the point that I felt like the episodes were intentionally trying to insult the audience’s intelligence.
It’s better than CSI series and stupid other shows. Show must go on! LOVE THE EVENT !!!
LOL. I agree with u
I like the show + my family
omg…the event is an amazing show, i get really annoyed when my fave tv shows get cancelled, im a loyal fan and will tune into syfy everyweek for a mini series but im routing for a second season! Great casting and great plot lines!
SYFY doesn’t know a good show when they have it. Bring back SGU.
I found the pilot fairly engaging (if derivative, but aren’t they all). Lost interest by the end of the second episode due to the, how to say politely?, iffy acting (I’m not looking at you, Innes and Ivanek) and trite dialogue.
But for doubters (as I was) – if you go back and catch up marathon-style (as I did on a day of desperate boredom), it did end up getting pretty satisfying. The storylines solidified and the acting overall became bearable. I was willing to think of it as pulp, and, as such, it was serviceably fun and suspenseful.
It was also good-looking (in terms of production values, not the cast, although, come to think of it, that too). Hope they can preserve that.
This will never work. The Event started strong but never went anywhere. I understand it would be cheaper since The Event was produced by Universal but I’d rather see SyFy pick up V as a miniseries to wrap up the storyline. V had stronger ratings then The Event and fits the SyFy mold better then the event and had a built in audience who would watch on SyFy.
we need both v and the event back!
I love this show. I was really hoping Syfy would pick it up if NBC was stupid enough to let it go for good! This IS A REALLY GREAT SHOW! And I want at least another season of it!
Personally, I feel exactly the opposite. I think “V” sucked – it was a terrible remake. I was drawn in by the Event, and DVR’d every episode, just in case I missed something. Whoever made the decision to take the Event off NBC needs to have their head examined. (At least the season is available on HULU.)
Was supposed to be a response to Jasin (above) — Sorry Dawn. I definitely agree with you.
We loved this show in Great Britain too – bring it back!!
We loved this show it was the next best show after 24 finished, it gave you the suspense and drama, the last episode was fantastic and left on such a cliff hanger just waiting for the next series, i will be so happy if another channel takes this on it was one of the best new shows on tv lately in my opinion, and everyone i new who watched also loved it.
a great show with great writing, the part that killed the show for me was the dialogue between Laili and Sean. Horrible acting by both of them, and not realistic. Hard to believe that they put a scroll in Seans hand never to mention it again for the next two episodes. Sure it was mentioned but nothing else? Where did he stash it?
Hope it comes back, it was a mistake for NBC to cancel. Thank god I just saw all the episodes together. I fast forwarded past the boring dialogue between Sean and Laila and it worked for me.
Everyone Event fan should write to SyFy and show them how much we want this show to continue. It is one of the greatest shows ever made. It’s cult like following will give it a solid audience. I hope like anything The Event Continues.
All two of you?
THIS IS AMAZING NEWS!
i’m surprised this is even gaining traction at Syfy. They’ve made comments in recent years that they are focusing on more original content rather than picking up failed shows from other networks.
There is no way this will turn out well for Syfy. These shows have terrible ratings on other networks for a reason.
The only thing this show was good for was its snark value. Otherwise, it sucked its own planet thru space.
Build a newer model with Ian Anthony Dale, Taylor Cole, and Ivanek, and that I might consider watching. But only if the writing and plotting improve exponentially.
The Event’s first half season was hard to follow, but they finally found their stride on the back nine. I thought the second season was much better. A sci fi version of 24, in some ways.
I’m sure those who criticize it here gave up on it during the first half and never looked back.
Would LOVE for Syfy to pick it up. That would make me go back to Syfy, which I haven’t watched in a while.
Best programme ever!! Gutted that its been cancelled. It brought my dad and I sooooo much closer
please bring it back!xxxxx
Make it happen. I loved this show!
So, if the First Lady was actually an alien, why did she save the President with the antidote to the stroke drug??! SyFy better pick this up as there’s some ‘splanin’ to do here…
There isn’t any explaining to do.
She is obiously not in the same “camp” as Sophia.
She saved him because she truly loves him and she is like Simon, she doesn’t believe what Sophia is doing is right.
The Event started off a little buumpy, but it was an awesome show. I see a big ratings boost on SyFy is they pick this show up, it had a VERY loyal following
Gotta love all the bitter people who has nothing better to do than express their hatred about something on TV because, perhaps, they’d like to see something else.
Haters gotta Hate.
Anyone remember the last miniseries Syfy did to resurrect an awful franchise? I do. It was Battlestar Galactica, and it was consistently ranked as one of the top shows on TV by sources like Time. I’m not saying The Event was “awful”, I liked it a lot, but I’m just saying that if this is successful, if the writing improves, the plot holes disappear,…who knows? We could have another BSG on our hands. Actors like Laura Innes, Zeljko Ivanek, and Ian Anthony Dale are definitely up there with the rest of them.
BSG was not resurrected, it was re-imagined and started from scratch. The Event simply was not that good.
Hope the show gets picked up for season TV, if on cable I will watch. Good show although the commericals tend to kill the plot at times, would lvoe to see the show on HBO and get a little more graphic with the details.
The Event could also feature different events every year tgus not forcing a plot to drag out.Same actors, different situation displaying how could the writers, scre and the actors can be.
whoever says this is a horrible show, you are obviously a government agent or an idiot and dont want disclosure.. LONG LIVE THE 5th COLUMN.
I don’t watch Sci Fi (I refuse to use their moronic SYFY name) network much anymore – since the murder of Farscape, it’s left a nasty taste in my mouth. Who can you consider WRESTLING as Science Fiction? It’s FAKE, but it sure ain’t Star Trek. Now they’re filling their schedule with more and more inane “reality” shows. If I had a way to do it, I’d have the cable company remove it – for now, it’s skipped in my Favorites menu
