EXCLUSIVE: New Line has set Don Scardino to make his feature debut directing Steve Carell in Burt Wonderstone, the comedy that will begin production in October in Los Angeles. Carell plays a magic man dethroned by a hip younger illusionist and then must find a way to rediscover his love for magic. Scardino is best known for directing the hit NBC sitcom 30 Rock.
The script was written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the writers of another New Line comedy, Horrible Bosses, with story by Tyler Mitchell and Chad Kultgen. Carell and his Carousel partners Vance DeGeneres and Charlie Hartsock are producing with Mitchell, Chris Bender and JC Spink.
Now that Scardino is in the fold, they will quickly set the rival magician.

Someone had to give Benderspink another movie and why not their old pals at the new New Line?
Benderspink set this up at New Line like 6 years ago and developed a mediocre script into a great one which landed them Steve Carell. Job well done. This is how the development process is supposed to work.
As a lowly actor in on a lowly t.v. show, Don was nothing but class, compassion and a confidant. Understands the entire process. He started as an actor and there is no one better in the biz to head to the big screen. Well deserved.
I had the privilege of meeting Don when he was working on Faith and Hope. Great guy.
Don Scardino is, hands down, one of the best human beings in the business. Good for him.
I have dealt with Don, a few times, over the years. Class act, and terrific director. I wish him well. Art
Seeing as how John Francis Daley is about the only one of the original Apatow crew NOT included in all the recent films, I’m ecstatic that he’s getting it done on his own!
Agreed.
I remember when Scardino was in tons of commercials in the 70′s. Seems to have done really well for himself since, too!
Worked with Don on Hope & Faith. Awesome guy and great director. Well-deserved, Don.
Donny directed one of my first TV scripts. Great guy. Always solid, always smiling…
Don is truly one of the nicest guys in the business. I wish him great success on this project.
This could be a first. A name and picture posted on the net, giving everyone a free shot at the usual snark and destroy. And. . . . no takers?! None? Wow! Don MUST be a nice guy.
Worked with Don on CBS’ Cosby. He is the nicest person I’ve ever met in this business. Sincere, kind and really funny. Good for him!
A Great uncle and stupendously hard worker in his field from acting in the soaps back in the day to directing /producing for 30Rock.
A well deserved break and I bet a hit. Congratulations Don.
Feature film debut? Y’know, actually, Don Scardino directed a low-budget feature film for me at Columbia TriStar in the early ’90′s — ME AND VERONICA, shot in New Jersey, and starred Elizabeth McGovern and Patricia Weting. Script was by Leslie Lyles, and producers were Leslie Urdang, Max Mayer, Mark Linn-Baker, and Nellie Nugiel. Not a widely released movie, but a feature nonetheless, and a fine one, if you ask me…I am of course delighted at his gaining success and never miss an episode of 30 ROCK.
Typo! Patricia WETTIG, for heaven’s sake.
