After the writing team of Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec revived one Paramount franchise with their script for Mission: Impossible –Ghost Protocol, the studio has tapped them to rewrite another franchise Paramount is hoping to resuscitate. They will next go to work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The scribes just did a rewrite of Now You See Me, which Louis Leterrier will direct for Summit Entertainment. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot is being produced by Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. The scribes are repped by WME.

How many reboots of this franchise do we need?!?!?!?!?!
This is actually the first reboot. The other 4 films were part of the same continuity.
There was actually only one reboot and that was TMNT back in 2007. The other movies besides the original were sequels to the original movie. And the reboot was terrible because it was not live action like the first 3 movies were. If they do not have another live action movie TMNT then it will fail.
@ Dave; you do realize tere was a comic book precursor to the movies? There was also a highly successful, long running TV cartoon featuring the characters.
Learn your TMNT history before you spout absolute crap.
Actually it wasn’t a reboot. I took place after the second movie.
It took place after the third movie, friend. The time time scepter appears on the Turtle’s trophy wall.
Live-action reboot, I take it?
NOOO…writers of October Road and Michael Bay
Don’t forget Happy Town!
I need a scotch on the rocks. Enough already please….even the kids need something original to watch.
Turtles, again? Seriously? How many times is this going to get rescued from the depths of oblivion?
AWESOME!!!! Just make sure you include Shredder, Kraang, and Bebop & Rocksteady and the technodrome this time round!
If they were included in the pretty good cgi movie instead of those lame new villains, it would have been worth buying the dvd.
However, I love the Turtles, always have so bring it on!!!
Cowabungaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
Did Marcum/Holloway do a terrible job like they did with Highlander?
WTF?? I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
The level of uncreativity by studio execs knows no bounds.
Hmm, could be good.
Obviously, animatronics or costumes or anything but CGI would look like a joke. If they use the Avatar-style performance-capture technology and make it a part live-action, part CGI movie, I can see it looking pretty good and not too campy.
The kids today were born in the late-90s onward and were too young to watch TMNT back in its heyday — so to them, it pretty much is an original, novel movie. For those of us born in the 80s, this could be a decent nostalgic trip and/or ironic viewing opp. Turtle power!
The should get Ben Edlund to write since the search for the next big brand found The Tick. The origin of the Turtles was in part a parody on Frank Miller’s work at the time, so Edlund could have some fun with the current comic book film genre.
I understand writing is a craft but what about a MI script leads one to the conclusion that the same writers would be capable or even comfortable writing TMNT? It strikes me as a complete misapprehension of the source material on the part of the studio. Shocking, I know.
Great, so Micheal Bay screwed up Transformers and Friday the 13th, but hey that’s not enough, how about pissing on the rest of my fond childhood memories for a cheap buck. I seriously doubt that they will go into the comic book origins, instead they rehash what’s already done, but make it more generic and palpable for today’s modern idiot. Be prepared for half conversations and incomprehensible blurry cgi, with absolutely no semblance of plot or meaning behind it.
Am I the only person who is getting a little tired of fanboys whining about how unoriginal hollywood is these days? We get it. Hollywood is out of original ideas. Let’s all just assume that unless said otherwise, you would prefer they work on a new idea. But seeing as they won’t, can we please look at other possible pros/cons for the flick?
Con: The franchise is no longer owned by Laird and Eastman, who at least invested a significant portion of their revenues into independent comics.
Con: Platinum Dunes has an appalling critical reception rating, and they are branching out from the horror genre.
Pro: Jobs.
I love the idea of another live action tmnt. I would like it if they went either dark or comedic undertone. Stay tuned for Jackass 4 summer 2012.
The hold up on a live action movie is bugging the crap outta me no updates yet grr! The new cartoon great just don’t like Mickey’s new chucks dons I can see a update and for the movie I rather have a build up to the shredder like they did with Batman begins . Have the rat king and no side kicks like Casey Jones boo! And comic related not all 90s cartoon crap like bebop and rocksteady they should had them in the second one in the old live action but Jim Hanson couldn’t do it back then
