In Universal Media Studios’ first major pod deal under new NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt, the studio has signed a three-year overall pact with former Brillstein Entertainment Partners President of Television Peter Traugott. The agreement had been in the works for the past couple of weeks. Traugott will develop and produce scripted comedy and drama series for NBC and other networks through a newly launched production company. Joining him in the new company will be another senor BEP TV executive, EVP Rachel Kaplan. I hear Traugott, who worked with Greenblatt at Fox years ago, was the first producer Greenblatt and his new top lieutenant Jennifer Nicholson Salke approached about joining the studio. “Peter is a widely respected and successful executive and producer with a savvy instinct for exceptional television,” said Greenblatt. “I’m thrilled that he wanted to join our re-emerging studio at NBC.”
Traugott called leaving Brillstein “a very tough decision.” “I’ve been here 15 years and they have become like a second family to me,” he said. “But the chance to work with Bob and his team at NBC, and be a part of what they’re building, was too good an opportunity to pass up.” Brillstein just signed a new two-year deal with ABC Studios and tapped JoAnn Alfano as the company’s new President of Television.
Traugott started at Brillstein Entertainment in 1996 as VP of development and served as President of Television for the past nine years. Under him, the company landed three pilot orders and one series pickup this past development season. Traugott served as an executive producer on the pilot for new series Ringer and is expected to continue to consult on the show, which landed at the CW. Prior to joining BEP, Traugott was Director of Current Programming for Fox. As EVP Television at BEP, Kaplan developed and sold over two dozen projects, including Ringer. Earlier, she was Head of Scripted Television at BermanBraun from 2007-09 and VP drama development at Warner Bros. TV.

Peter and Rachel are great producers and are wonderful to work with! I wish them the best in their new endeavor!
Rachel is a smart developer with great taste. Kudos!
What shows has Peter developed that have made it on the air?
Samantha Who & Jake in Progress. has “ringer” coming on in the fall as well. he’s a nice guy. people like him. that makes him as qualified as anyone else in this town to develop network tv. hopefully i can get a meeting over there!
Um, Don Todd developed Samantha Who. And Austin Winsberg developed Jake in Progress. But whatever.
Uh, hey snarky matt, he asked what peter ‘developed’ not what he’s written. those people you mention are the writers on past projects peter has developed. peter is an executive and as an executive he develops shows that are pitched by and written by writers. do you get it, now? oh, shnook, now i’m being snarky. see what you’ve done to me, matt?!
So what exactly did Peter do again?
Plus I think there are probably some network execs who think they “developed” those shows too, so… again, what exactly did Peter do?
Their TV dept fell apart when brad Grey left. Brad had an obscenely successful way of taking all the money he made and letting everyone else pay for his losses, he was the yang to hyman roth’s ying if you will, but to the tune of the roughly 250 million he had when he left BGE for paramount. Traugott did nada and it’s only in that path he got the ‘nice guy’ tag. Peter in the late 90′s early 2000′s when he was still coasting on just shoot me/newsradio/larry sanders/naked truth/mr. show/dennis miller/politically incorrect/steve harvey etc was an arrogant prick, and that was his demeanor and his reputation. None of those shows were his. A brian benben pilot was his before one of the single biggest tv flops in recent history samantha who which was all his before it aired im sure…the other comment mentioning don todd is correct. Peter dumped hard on his co-workers and kept his job…ive spoken to two of them recently…they dont think peter is nice at all. So maybe peter got nicer, i doubt it but maybe. he has a new job, no one should feel too bad.
Peter Traugott is a great exec and a greater guy! He’s hot!
If he doesn’t name his pod Traugotcha!, then I don’t even know what.
Why when people leave are they great but when they are their they are mean and evil. So silly.
As I’ve stated, Brillstein is a name as in Bernie. They are a shell of yester year. They have weak managers at this point. Mosaic, I like. Untitled, I like. PYE, bloated. Anonymous, eh. Brillstein barely alive. These companies are agencies. Lists. But they don’t have great talent.
Love Madhouse.
Xo
Agreed. Seems like sleeker, smaller management co’s are having the same/more success as the bigs, at least on the lit side.
You’re obviously another grudge carrying, showbiz wannabe. Start posting when you get in the business.
Peter is top-notch. Best of luck to him with this new venture.
Smart move for Greenblatt and NBC. Peter is a great get!
“Peter is a widely respected and successful executive and producer”? I’d like to see a source on that.
Traugott and Kaplan are an excellent get for NBC, to say nothing for Comcast.
