Clearly, people around the globe are starved for entertainment. For those of you keeping score, Pirates Of The Caribbean 4‘s cume to date is Domestic $221.6M and International $735.2M for a worldwide total of $956.8M. It now stands as the 10th-biggest release of all-time on a worldwide basis, passing Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part I but behind Pirates Of The Caribbean 3. In fact, three of the Top 10 films are the Pirates franchise. And Johnny Depp has four of the Top 10 films (three Pirates and Alice In Wonderland).

Shows you the importance of international box office. I’d imagine if you asked 100 random people to name their top 5 movies this year you’d be lucky if anyone said POTC4. Probably would make very few top 10 lists either.
Sorry, but being on some critics’s top 10 list doesn’t pay the bills or keep people employed. I say congratulations to them. Considering the current state of the industry, at least some films are actually making money.
This franchise will never die.
Twilight sagas breaking dawn will surpased that you’ll see
Dear rest of the World,
This movie was not good.
It will not match the grosses of the others domestically.
Please stop encouraging them.
Love, Me
I thought pirates 4 was great, it’s one of mine top ten for sure
That makes four total for Disney. Dick Cook greenlit all and as a result was axed and replaced by a Nickelodeon nerd responsible for “Prom,” one of the lowest grossing films this or any year. A costly mistake!!
Everyone really needs to take a look at how Disney is marketing and rolling out their films abroad. There’s something they are doing that’s really working.
That’s too bad – it was so so so terrible – like fatigued in the first eight minutes, terrible.
Yeah Pirates 4 stunk and now I just don’t care about this franchise anymore. Depp is all about the money now instead of quality roles. First it was Alice in Wonderland than The Tourist and now Pirates 4. Its like he doesn’t care about acting anymore and is just phoning it in.
Money talks, quality walks.
Starved for entertainment? So glad that those of us in the know can look down on the idiots that might go to see this movie because they have no other choice. Or maybe people enjoy going to see popcorn movies as an escape or diversion from their lives. Doesn’t go over well with the cineastes, fanboys, or agency assistants that frequent these boards, but has always been true.
This is all Bruckheimer has left as Nic Cage and National Treasure is probably dead. Last year, Jerry stumbled through the summer with Prince of Persia and Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
No wonder Jerry is pushing Pirates 5.
Tom, you are spot on with your take on this. All Jerry has is this film series. National Treasure 3 won’t get made until there is a script that he and Cage approves. Sadly, Pirates has been run into the ground and that is all that Jerry can offer Disney. It’s going to be a easy sell to Depp fans around the world but over here in the United States it’s over.
I still though it was better than hangover 2
Why is it not mentioned that these terrible movies, if adjusted for inflation, wouldn’t even make the top 100 of all time?
Because adjusting for inflation means nothing, especially when re-released money is counted in the year it was released
My point is that it’s only higher ticket prices that make this break records – not a global popularity. The amount of people that will see this compared to, say, JAWS, is much smaller.
Great Movie…..Best since POTC I
I’m glad he still does them. I understand (could be wrong) he does so because his children like him to and that’s the best reason of all.
And besides, what harm are these films doing? Clearly they are helping to keep people employed — and like everything else, it’s not a Zero-Sum game. Other movies are being made. Other movies are being financed. Other movies have a shot.
NOT surprised in the least. its 1st or 2nd on my list. saw it 2twice already. the critics dont know a thing about the flick or the series. its very very good.
Some of the snarky comments here are pretty hysterical. “Oh we’re too classy to like this film.” Give me a break. It was a very good film. A ton of people agree, so just get over it.
To be fare it was much better than number 3.
Good fun movie, continues the series, hope it will continue a lot better then the other crap with crime and language that is being fed to our children.
