Friends say former World Wrestling Entertainment Films president Joel Simon died in his sleep this morning after a four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. In addition to The Condemned and The Marine, he produced See No Evil as vehicles for WWE superstars. Before starting WWE Films in 2002, Simon served as president of Quincy Jones Media Group and Quincy Jones/David Salzman Productions, overseeing all feature and television productions from the late 1990s through 2001. Prior to that, he was partnered for nearly a decade with producer Bill Todman Jr in Todman/Simon Productions, which had a first-look deal with Lorimar and Warner Bros Pictures, and whose feature releases included Married to the Mob and Hard to Kill. Simon’s additional production credits included Vacuums, X-Men and X2, Wild Wild West, Steel, The In-Laws, and Say It Loud: A Celebration of Black Music in America, a five-hour VH-1 original documentary mini-series. He went into films after starting a marketing company 20 years ago and eventually taking it global.

When i was starting my agent career, in the early 90′s, Joel was someone who would always take my calls, meet with my people, and offer great advice. I true gentleman. RIP. Art
He was a very nice, genuine, great person. Very sad news. Cancer sucks.
Joel will be missed.
The industry has lost a true gentleman. He was one of the nicest and most down to earth people you could meet. I was lucky to have the opportunity to work with him.
This is terrible news and I’m just crushed, really. I am honored to have worked with him and know him, and he truly made being a producer look classy. He will be sorely missed. Hollywood lost a class act today.
a good man, a kind heart, and one who always had an open door for the countless number of ideas and pitches i ran by over the years. i’m so very sorry to hear of this loss. wishing all of his family, friends and associates sincerest condolences.
One of the first big meetings I ever had when I moved to Hollywood.
I am saddened to hear this. I didn’t even know he was sick.

A showman, a gentleman and a stand-up guy. Joel will be missed.
Joel was a real producer and a good man.
When I first came to Hollywood he was one of the first who opened his door to me and shared his wisdom and advice.
My condolences to his family.
He will be missed.
Thank you all for the wonderful things you have said about Joel. He was my first cousin and I can’t believe he is gone. I have great memories of him when we were growing up and he was always the nicest, sweetest person and would help anyone who needed him and he has always been down-to-earth and never let Hollywood change him. Although we didn’t see him often because of his busy schedule, we were so proud of him and all of his accomplishments and just loved him so much…RIP Joel…forever in our hearts. <3<3
Just up until recently I would see him at the gym practically every day. Always of good cheer. He put up the good fight. And considered himself a survivor. He set the bar very high. And will truly be missed.
This is such sad news. He was truly one of the best guys in the biz and was so loyal. I am just so sad. Will you all please post any service info. God Rest his soul.
This is very sad news. I knew Joel early in my career and then later on when I worked in close proximity to him while he was in the throes of his battle with cancer. He was generous of spirit and he never lost his enthusiasm for the creative associated with film and television, in spite of the pain I assume he encountered every day. Joel Simon was a truly decent and kind man and I feel privelaged to have known him.
Joel SImom was a dear sweet man. Truly a lovely person, and the antithesis of the “hollywood producer” stereotype. He will be missed.
R.I.P.
Such horrible news. Joel was truly a class act. He was a born showman – tons of creative enthusiasm – every conversation you had with him reminded you why you love the business – because he too loved every ounce of it. Called it like it was – never bullshitted you. We all meet many people in our careers – we can’t always say they affected us in a positive manner – but Joel – it’s the first thing that comes to mind. I am honored to have shared many laughs and smiles with him over the years. He’ll be missed.
Very sad news. What a sincerely nice man. I worked beside him for five years and was always impressed by his unwavering generosity and enthusiasm.
Hopefully if Nikki receives some information as to what’s going on with his memorial she will post it. Between Joel and Laura dying from cancer, these last two weeks have been rough out there for us in producer land. We’re losing all of the good ones.
Very Sad. Joel was incredible. We used to talk all the time, and he was truly a class act. He treated all of us with respect, and really fought for the clients and projects he believed in. Sad. R.I.P.
RIP. I’ve never met him, but from the description and the previous posts, it seems like he was a great guy. Pancreatic cancer is just a terror.
Joel and his partner Bill Todman through their tireless efforts managed to take a spec script by two unknowns (myself and Mark Burns), set up MARRIED TO THE MOB and get it made — starting all our careers. Joel went on to produce many studio films but always maintained his down-to-earth, self-deprecating, NY street kid manner. He was always open, friendly, encouraging. Too young to go. I’ll miss him. Condolences to his family.
Well said, Barry. I couldn’t agree more.
Joel gave me my first internship at QDE films. I will be forever greatful for that. Joel Simon will be missed by many. My Blessings go out to his family…
we will miss a truly gentle man who always enjoyed a good golf game…you fought a long hard battle till the end..I will always remember our golf at mountaingate…
RIP Joel. See you on the other side.
Joel was a great man. I was lucky to have spent time with him over the past 15 years. He will be missed and is in a better place now.
My uncle is truly a wonderful man and will be missed by us dearly. He always had great advice (he got that from my grandfather) and the saw the best in everyone. I will miss our conversations and he positive outlook he had on life. Love & Miss you, Melissa
