The Dallas Mavericks-Miami Heat thriller scored a 10.5 overnight rating and is poised to easily win the night in 18-49 and total viewers. Game 2 of the NBA Finals, which the Mavericks rallied to win by two points, was down 4% from last year’s second game between the L.A. Lakers and Boston Celtics but did better than the six previous Game 2s, including the one in 2006 between the Heat (without LeBron) and the Mavericks.
Elsewhere, Fox’s reality series So You Think You Can Dance (2.8/9), which aired from 8-9 PM, was down 15% from its two-hour season premiere last Thursday. (Compared to the 8-9 hour, it was down 3%). A Glee rerun (1.4/4) followed. NBC was the only other English-language broadcast network to offer fresh programming last night, showing the premiere of burnoff anthology dramedy Love Bites (1.0/3 in 18-49, 2.5 million viewers) at 10 PM. It finished dead last in the hour.

Love Bites will soon be replaced with the NBC staple…The Voice. Eventually, NBC will have The Voice on seven nights a week and there is a new children’s The Voice gearing up for Saturday morning, too.
NBC knows how to handle a ‘hit’ show from all their recent experience with ‘hit’ shows. and if they are at a loss for what to do…NBC can always call Zucker.
No surprise this show tanked. Reason why it was put for summer airing and then canceled afterwards. This show is just awful. As for “The Voice” they need to be careful with over-exposure or that show too will suffer as well. Remember weakest link?
I didn’t even know Love Bites finally premiered.
Raise your hand if this is the first time you heard Love Bites was premiering.
Great marketing.
I left NBC on for about five minutes after Parks & Recreation last night, and that Love Bites show was awful. So awful that even though I was on my computer, I had to change the channel because I couldn’t handle it in the background any longer. I only saw Becki Newton and Krysten Ritter interacting, but it was worse than Sex and the City 2! Adios, Love Bites!
The concept seemed like “Love, American Style” from the 70′s being recycled. That coupled with the fact that the commercials for the series premiere basically had a recycled joke from a “Friends” episode…remember the one where Ross had the celebrities sex-freebies list, and one of the celebs walked in the door of the coffee shop and Rachel told him to go for it…the show was destined for failure. If your only hook is someone else’s old jokes and an old series format, you’re doomed. Too many years of “reality” TV programming, instead of nurturing the careers of talented writers, have left us with this shit.
Love Bites was dirty for the sake of being dirty. I don’t mind innuendo, but this show was mindless sex. I expected more quality and less “wanna be SATC”. Any show that requires a show to say “vampire penises must be cold” randomly is ridiculous.
So NBC will do to the Voice what ABC did with Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
Could you imagine the look on the NBC execs’ faces if Love Bites was a hit, haha? But seriously, this was destined to flop and I doubt one cent was but into advertising it.
Love Bites was fun television! I hope it finds an audience. NBC is back, people. With The Voice, Love Bites and Jay Leno (“He’s back where he once belonged”) NBC is the place to be this fall.
Oh my god, I’m laughing so hard I’m in tears.
I hope you’re being sarcastic.
Let me guess Jaymie: your son and/or daughter works for NBC?
Jamie must be full of sarcasm.
I’m a fan of the peacock, but I would say that Love Bites is terrible TV, The Voice is being stretched thin, and Jay Leno’s spot was rightfully Letterman’s (whom I dislike), Conan’s, and will be Fallon’s (in a few years). I’m still rooting for NBC though. Hopefully, a few scripted hits this fall.
The biggest mistake with LOVE BITES was Incooperating Becki Newton’s Pregnancy into the series. That original pilot with a hot Becki & Spiro was really good.
The new pilot was very enjoyable but didn’t have the glamour that the classic had. It ended up being just another relationship drama and very much undermining Becki Newton’s talents.
They could have just covered her pregnancy or photoshopped her belly to the max and retained the original concept. I love love Becki and really happy for her with her baby and the fact she still pulled an amazing job on the reworked pilot.
NBC could have atleast waited and pushed the show to this coming season because that there, is a hit show in the making!
Love Bites was just plain awful. It was gross for the sake of being gross… as if now we’re supposed to believe NBC is a hip and edgy network. Oh yes… nothing more appealing then 20 minutes of characters talking about vibrators!!! Come on Executives!
Episodes of Weeds more G rated than this terrible pilot!!! It was about one thing and one thing only… SEX. I know is a part of life but is it really the end all be all like we’re some sort of animals waiting to attack.
And how many pop culture references can you use in one show? It wasn’t funny, original, or well done. I predict this show will be another Paul Reiser… gone after two episodes! Hopefully!
JMC,
I couldn’t agree more!
Whoever greenlighted the pilot for this most awful turd of a show should be bitten…HARD…in unspeakable places.
My god, it was HORRIFIC!!!!
Vincent Martella will be guest starring in one of the main stories.
Vincent played Greg from Everybody Hates Chris. Vincent is the voice of Phineas on Disney’s world wide Hit Phineas & Ferb!
Are you out of your mind???? The show “Love Bites” is disgusting, awful, terrible, offensive, and gutter smut! I came inside from an evening walk and turned on the TV to relax. I couldn’t believe the garbage you dumped into my home via the television. A woman was in bed with a vibrator someone had given her. That’s funny to you? Not to me, and I’m betting not to the majority of your viewers, NBC. I am tempted to complain to the sponsors. I don’t believe they would be happy to learn how their money was spent. Don’t you even KNOW your audience? The people who would appreciate that show are watching porn on their computers, not watching network TV. Wake up!
