UPDATE, 11:35 AM: NBC has just confirmed that all four judges on The Voice — Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — will return when the series resumes in midseason Mondays at 8 PM. “Our fantastic coaches were integral to the tremendous success of The Voice this year, and we are thrilled that they are all returning,” said Paul Telegdy Alternative Programming at NBC and Universal Media Studios. “We look forward to building Season 2 and making The Voice an even greater experience for fans.”
PREVIOUS, 11:33 AM: The Season 1 finale of NBC’s musical competition series The Voice last night drew 10.8 million viewers and a 3.5 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, the network’s highest non-sports demo number in the time period since January 2008 and largest overall viewership in nine months. That’s a pretty nice closing number for the series, which has been one of the lone bright spots on NBC’s schedule as it tries to dig out of a primetime ratings slump under new entertainment boss Bob Greenblatt. (On the finale, coach Adam Levine’s singer Javier Colon won the grand prize: $100,000 and a recording contract.) The showing helped as a lead-in for America’s Got Talent, which nabbed a season-high 4.0 in the demo. Both shows helped NBC easily win the night in viewers and the demo. Meanwhile, Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance landed a 1.9 rating, down 14% from a week ago. CBS and ABC ran repeats except for the latter’s Primetime Nightline: Beyond Belief, which delivered a 1.2 rating at 10 PM.

Change the name of The Voice to The Judges. This is the focus of the current program…and, unless the focus is changed to the voices and the quality of the talent vastly improves…The Voice is as big as it will get.
I sincerely doubt that any of these finalists will amount to anything in the future.
The novelty of The Voice is already wearing off….and, the gimmicks did not help either.
@ Tom,
Really? You doubt any of the finalists will amount to anything in the future? Well if they don’t, they can always troll on Deadline and leave cynical little comments and digs at others expense.
Hey Bubba,
I am more than happy to put my money where my mouth is. Let’s figure out how to make a bet off line.
And, the comments should not be at others expense…they reflect my observations as a viewer only.
What do you say $100 that none of them makes it past a first album?
Go ahead Bubba. Take that bet. You’ll be $100 richer.
Tom’s right on the money. Hard to stand behind a talent competition where the talent doesn’t really shine. Blake, Cee Lo and Adam are the only thing this show has going for them. Yeah, left off Christina. And that’s exactly what they should do for season two.
yes poor christina, bev supposed to win javier is like any normal singer even ceelo is better.
i am watching for christina
One thing they need to change is how the qualify contestants — I.e., they should really only accept amateur singers who haven’t previously signed a record deal. I want to watch singers who <i
I want to watch singers who haven’t had their big break yet… Not a bunch of singers who have already signed deals and been dropped by labels.
The final 8 really had this “air” of washed-up singers trying hard to make the most of what they felt was their last chance to make it.
Javier Colon, Dia, Nakia, Vicci… All these contestants exuded commercial polish and a bit of entitlement (or misplaced swagger). It was refreshing to see true amateurs like Xenia and that nerdy “pre-med” student eagerly and enthusiastically approach every little step as a previously-uncharted one. I wanted to smack Javier every time he gave that smug purse of his lips and look away from the judges as he got praised by judges; congrats, Javier, you out-sang a bunch of raw, amateur teens and 20-somethings.
Okay seriously though. Why the hate? This show is called THE VOICE, not The Amateur Voice. Javier was absolutely more polished than most of the contestants, you’re totally right. And I personally thought it was kind of dick move that he didn’t thank Adam at the end of the show when Carson gave him a whole 30 seconds to speak…but I’m sure his head was spinning. But no one can dispute his talent is WAY off the charts. I bought all his songs on iTunes (as well as Dia’s and Beverly’s) and will buy his album…I didn’t buy Xenia’s or Pre-Med Kid’s cause when I’m in the car listening to music, I WANT polish…I don’t want best-karoke-ever or even American Idol good. I want amazing, and that’s what Javier gives you. Amazing, amazing vocal chops. All my opinion, but I think the show works in its current format.
Nah, Xenia is cute, but I would fall asleep watching a show full of Xenias. The top 8 was amazing, and a lot of it has to do with the fact that many of the contestants are experienced performers. It also adds a lot of drama and emotive moments because the show may actually be the last chance that many of them will get to make it into the music business; people like Bevs, Nakia, Javier or Tim, they’re amazingly talented, but I can’t imagine a label signing them on regular circumstances, not at their age.
If what you want is a show full of young amateurs, it already exists, and airs on fox.
ratings were down a lot from the prev night… there was no soaring
I enjoy that it is a competition for the singers AND for the judges. I was hoping they would only bring back the winning judge from season to season.
Nice work Mark Burnett, but Xtina is truly unwatchable.
xtina hater:)who would you like to watch?gaga maybe.
xtina is the wining judge for sure
i am watching for christina and bev is amazing talant
They’d be nuts to mess with the winning formula when the show is still in it’s infancy. Also, the show obviously tries to distance itself from Idol & has totally different rules, including contestants’ eligiblity. It is not exclusively for amateurs. Ugly people can be in it. People can be openly gay or old or whatever. If you don’t like the rules, don’t watch. They’d probably draw the line at Justin Bieber competing (or maybe someone with a current record deal) but apart from that it seems to be anyone’s game. I personally love the diversity of the contestants & it’s hard to deny that some of them have great voices. It’s also a nice change to not to have to watch a couple of months of terrible ones getting flogged for their ‘comic value’. That joke got old years ago.
I’m not sure the word ‘Soaring’ really fits here… ratings were down on previous weeks – very surprising for the big finale!
Soaring? Seriously? It’s down. The show was in the 5′s and then 4′s. You’d expect the finale to be a high, but it was only a 3.5. Sure – great in these days – but “soaring downwards” is more like it. Usually with new hit shows building to a finale – the finale gets the highest score. (In fact – this may be one of the lowest – not sure.)
Isn’t it funny how misleading so-called “journalists” have become? If you are a lazy reader, you never get the full picture. Reading just the headlines or getting your news from one source is a practice of the sorely ill-informed.
I’ll admit, I’ve been watching with hopes that it would get better as they neared the final four. However, that hope was dashed each time I tuned in right up to last night’s snooze-fest. I wanted to see Miranda Lambert and Stevie Nicks do their duets but much of the proceedings were just boring and the performances messy. Unfortunately, I really didn’t care who won and had no emotional investment—a key to “American Idol’s” success.
I am a big “Idol” fan and I always look forward to seeing these young kids with raw talent transformed into polished performers over the course of an entire season. Eventually, I end up making an emotional connection to one or two of them and rooting for their success. Tom nailed the show’s problem in his previous post. Despite Adam Levine’s constant over-the-top statements regarding the t”talent,” I just don’t think they were all that good. In addition, as someone else pointed out, this show suffers from its focus being misplaced on the judges rather than the contestants.
I agree with a previous post.
I checked the show out early on. The judges “blind” choice gimmick was fun. But then when a few of the singers turned out to have ALREADY had their opportunity on another show, where even one of them WON, I soured on this show.
I expected new, fresh talent getting their chance to shine……
We’ll see how season 2 is cast.
i actuly found the voice to be good almost idol without all the talking more by the host. and Javier had record deals but they fell through. for the voice like other shows of its type are after voices singers . and glad the judges are back for season two for their chemistry was one part of the voice that made the first season interesting.
But how much can NBC truly depend on reality for their upticks in the ratings? Their scripted stuff has to also help increase their ratings as they’re still a mess right now.
ok every one has its own opinion, but how xtina is unwatchable?she is the only one who i am watching this show for:)
she said the true and she has some personality, all the other judges are with no personlaity and afraid to say the true.
she is a trending topic in yahoo for 2 days after the final.
her movie is a trending topic in US after the final
her songs and albums are in top 20 and 10 after the final
and i am sure that adam and blake were bad to her enought.
she has good fans not fans foucs on how people look,
and for adam you can replace him with ryan tedder and for blake there is alote of hot country’s singers not only him and with some class.
and for the host: no comment.
she dont need any help for sure she is famous singer without them,
finally, for the winner he was been choosen from the beging
all advertisments are about him they were telling people to choose him
OR they already did.
Why should anyone vote on “The Voice” on NBC?, in the end Justin Bieber picks the winner. The fix is in. This show ill flop next year.
“The Voice” on NBC, Javier Colon Triumphs With Help From Justin Bieber
“After being crowned the first-ever winner of ‘The Voice’, Colon acknowledged the possible boost he got from Bieber’s tweeting, saying, “He sent out a tweet to all of his people, and we won by two percent. I’m thankful to everyone who lent their support, who told their folks to give me a chance”.”
‘The Voice’ Winner Javier Colon on Having Justin Bieber In His Corner: ‘He Hooked Me Up’
Colon doesn’t take the support he received from Bieber for granted. “Especially when it was so close,” he says. “I know a lot of people see his tweets. Did they translate into actual people watching the show and voting? I would imagine so. How many people, I’m not sure. But, it definitely couldn’t hurt for sure.”
This show is rigged. Adam Levine even said he was rigging the show when he voted to cast out Casey Weston was up against Javier. “Underwaterstar6 hours ago in reply to Becky, “It goes deeper than Justin Beiber, look back at how Adam Levine voted when Casey Weston was up against Javier. Pretttyyyyy obvious, Adam…”
And from the start all the Voice commercials on NBC featured Javier Colon; the fix was in from the beginning.
Congratulations America, Justin Bieber is now your God. He tweeted for everyone to vote for Javier Colon on “The Voice”, and you mindless zombies did what he said and voted in droves for Javier Colon.
Even so Javier Colon won the total vote by just 2% over Dia Frampton. Even though Dia Frampton had the number 1 hit on iTunes, doubling Javier Colon iTunes sales.
Just shows how biased Justin Bieber is. Obviously he did want anyone to vote for a woman, or vote for anyone who is gay or lesbian. Out of the four finalists three were women. Dia Frampton, Beverly McClellan and Vicci Martinez
Congratulations America, Justin Beiber is now your God
