BREAKING: Relativity Media will distribute Haywire, the Steven Soderbergh-directed action film that will get a Jan. 20, 2012 release date. Though Relativity Media financed the pic, it was originally going to be released domestically by Lionsgate. I’m told it was a better fit for Relativity. The film will be released overseas by Lionsgate. It becomes the second film in two days to move from Lionsgate to Relativity Media. The other was Machine Gun Preacher, and that one moved because director Marc Forster wanted it released this year and Lionsgate was unable to accommodate it because of a busy fall schedule.
Haywire stars mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Bill Paxton, Antonio Banderas and Michael Angarano.

Bill Paxton baby!!!!
I’m pretty sure Michael Fassbender and George Freeman are the same person. Has anyone ever seen them together?
Same guy
And theeeeeeeen is he going to retire????
Does anyone else see this and yesterday’s Machine Gun Preacher announcement as Lionsgate trying to get out of business with Relativity?
It has nothing to do with Relativity becoming a distributor?
Maybe it’s true that Lionsgate is really getting out of the business. I mean, all they really have is Saw 8 for 2012 or 13. Have they decided on when that’s coming out yet?
This film has been delayed sooo many times. Let’s hope this will stand as the final date. Michael Fassbender is blowing up quickly as the next IT guy. Let’s hope Gina’s natural charisma will transfer to the Silver Screen.
saw Haywire at a screening in sherman oaks a few months ago. the film is AWESOME..and after seeing what Gina Carano does in this film..uh…angelina jolie should seriously re think that SALT sequel.
Carano could break her in half and just emphasizes what a joke Angie is doing action.
Fassbender is a scene-stealer in this, but the movie is otherwise garbage. My guess: horribly poor test screening results made LG decide to get out of this film commitment in any way possible.
So Mike, you are saying always reliable good actors like Douglas to McGregor to Paxton were bad? I only saw trailers but they isn’t look bad. Banderas-who is only great with Almodavar and Tatum who I don’t think is a great actor, are the only two where I can imagine if not directed well…they could be a problem.
