EXCLUSIVE: In the past month, the screenwriting team of Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz have seen their script work on Thor and X-Men: First Class lead to big opening weekends. The scribes are capitalizing on their heat by making film and TV deals. The duo just made a pre-emptive pitch deal worth high six-figures with Skydance Productions principals David Ellison and Dana Goldberg for an untitled contemporary disaster/action film. The style is ’70s fare like Poseidon Adventure, Towering Inferno and Earthquake. Specifics are being kept under wraps.
Miller & Stentz have also just sold a pilot to 20th Century Fox for mid six figures, with Shawn Levy and Marty Adelstein producing. The scribes are currently writing a remake of the Lee Majors stuntman TV series The Fall Guy for producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. The project is set up at Imagenation, with an eye toward distribution through DreamWorks. They wrote an untitled “Knight Project” for Fox, and did production rewriting work on the Dimension Films “found footage” thriller Apollo 18. The feature success comes after Miller & Stentz spent years as writers/producers on series that include Fringe, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Andromeda. The scribes are repped by Principato-Young and WME.

yeah, more white guys with deals.
Actually, Zack Stentz is Lebanese-American.
That’s logical considering that they are the ones getting the most opportunities (though the reasons that they do are many and varied) to do so.
Aside from being extraordinarily talented, they’re also just really nice guys. I’d wish them both great success, but it looks like that’s already come true.
Why is their official photo from Kensington Gardens? Are they british?
I swear I’ve seen a pic for the three Jonas kids standing in front of the same call box.
Folks,
I have it on good authority both of these guys have their wives write the majority of their material. They’re really just stay-at-home dads who play a lot of World of Warcraft and show up at Comicon once a year.
Cue the jealous unemployed writers.
Great. Thought these guys did a fabulous work on the X-Men Movie. Kudos to them.
Congrats to 2 super smart, classy writers. Can’t wait to see their upcoming projects
Good to see that hacks really CAN make a career in this town!
Absolutely crushing it! These guys are amazing!!
I’d say that level of success is beyond “rising.” They done risen! Congrats. Don’t know the guys but admire the C.V.
nice photo nerds!
White Dude Writers in Collarless Leather Jackets. Dot com.
Alex who and Roberto what?
I know, I know. Too soon. But you get my point.
I think the world would have been better off if these guys had stuck to law school as they originally planned (all writers in LA are either proto- or former lawyers, right?)
They’re hacks who know the right people. Thor was a huge snore, and their TV work is uninspired to say the least.
Listen up, young struggling writers. Let this be a warning – even if you are supremely talented YOU WILL BE PASSED OVER FOR HACKS LIKE THESE WHO KNOW PEOPLE. Unless YOU TOO KNOW THE RIGHT PEOPLE or are very confident you can meet them, find another line of work and stop wasting your lives.
Who do they know? Their management company is not so good, yes, they are now with WME, but not a senior agent. Seems like they broke in like anyone else.
‘Splain….
Or, another approach fo ryoung struggling writers would be: stop being a bunch of whiny, lazy-asses and slave away for 3 years in the Lit Dept of a major.
You write in the morning (4AM – 6:30AM), then hit your desk for the day (6:30AM – 9PM), go home, pass out, repeat.
After 3 years you’ll have a invaluable wealth of contacts and the knowledge from thousands of read screenplays good and bad.
As someone who has done JUST THAT, I can tell you that a) IT WORKS and b) Most won’t last a year at best due to the unfathomable work load.
Too many whiners — not enough winners. Let the whiners whine and the winners win.
PS – Not accusing “Veteran Scribe” of anything. Simply replying to a post as someone tired of “hackery” accusations and Non-veteran scribes with entitlement issues.
(And yes, finding another line of work is good advice. This is NOT an easy business.)
And your little dog, too!
Bitter much?
What you say may or not be true, but do you have any actual facts to support your claim that these two writers are hacks?
If all you do is rant on a message board with no supporting evidence than you just sound like an envious twit.
Your neck must hurt from the weight of that chip on your shoulder!
I read a lot of nasty, bitter, spiteful comments on this website, but yours might take the golden crown. As someone who represents talent, I can assure you that if YOU ARE SUPREMELY TALENTED, as you state above, someone WILL TAKE NOTICE — it takes time, patience, hard work and, yes, some good luck. I obviously write this based on personal experience.
This is an open forum and you are entitled to your opinion, but don’t expect to earn some opposition once you state it.
Wow!… Your “personal experience” claim is hilarious. Egotistical. But sunny nonetheless. Just so you know, “Don’t expect to earn some opposition” is a nonsense phrase. You’re not a pro writer.. Though you apparently think you are!
“wow” reps talent, never said they were a “pro-writer.”
learn to read.
and they’re 100% right, by the way. Some people on this site actual ARE who they say they are, not making claims. (and… why would someone”claim” to be a rep, falsely — just to say something positive? … and if they did… why attack them with such venom?)
… so many bitter losers with internet access.
WOW, That takes the cake, as the most bitter, sad thing I’ve ever read on Deadline Hollywood.
Talent rises to the top, in Hollywood, as in any business. These guys have paid their dues, working on TV for YEARS.
If you really think that everyone who’s sold a screenplay in this town is “connected” then you are a fool. My guess is the “brilliant” screenplay you’ve been peddling is awful, and you believe that everyone who’s told you that is jealous. Either that, or you’re one of those “writers” who’s never even set pen-to-paper.
Dude– like is SHORT. Being enraged at other people’s success is a terrible waste of time.
Adelstein’s former partner must be fuming at all the success he’s had.
You have to be kidding me.
These guys are amazing and on a roll!
I would really like it if 20th Century Fox would relinquish the rights to X-Men. They have screwed up 4 out of 5 movies now. Give someone else a shot like Warner Brothers
Wow…so much hate for writers who know the right people????
What is Hollywood — show business about? Show and business.
What is the show? Well, in Hollywood, it’s about telling a good enough — not always great enough — story on the page…that enough talented people come along and make it work
on the big or small screen. One big deal. And that means…yes…getting to know the right people. Because they have money or distribution or whatever to make this deal work.
And there’s not a lot of it to go around. So…you have no choice but to get to know the right people or…go the digital indie route and do your own thing. s in a trailer for a proposed feature, or a short film or graphic novel that can be the basis for a proposed feature.
You can either complain or whine or be very petty and jealous for these writers’ fortunes.
Because Hollywood has always been filled with so called hacks. Who knew the right people or whatever.
And you…VETERAN SCRIBE?
You should know better.
If you’re a true vet in Hollywood…then you’ve had your share of good fortune, and shouldn’t be denouncing any other writer who’s getting stuff going.
Because you really know how tough it is to break in and stay in.
i thought matthew vaughn and jane goldman wrote x-men first class. Who the hell are these guys.
To all ye naysayers and jealous peons: STFU you little bitchy pricks! These guys paid their dues, work extraordinarily hard, always have a kind word for fellow writers and, most importantly, are good, grounded family men who have NO trouble looking in the mirror at night. Hey, Vet Scribe, can the same be said of you? Or any of you others that constantly hide behind the “Anonymous” moniker? Revel in another’s success! It’s good for the soul. That is, if you have one.
Why do people think X-men: First Class was so well written. Aside from McAvoy’s and Fassbender’s characters, the other roles remained completely underwritten and undereveloped (the incredibly weak casting choices didn’t help). Seriously, did Zoe Kravitz or the actors who played Banshee, Havok, tornado guy and Azazel make any impression on you at all; they were given no characters to play. I mostly enjoyed the movie, but all this praise is over the top. It’s not that good.
wow, bitter anyone?
No, not bitter at all. Why is it if you make a legitimate criticism it means you’re bitter? Accusing someone of being bitter is a lazy and weaselly way of avoiding addressing their criticism.
This is awesome. Ashley and Zack are really talented writers and everyone should definitely keep these guys on their radar.
Congrats!
i think it’s great that these guys are doing so well. it doesn’t even bother me that they’re white or that they’re guys. there’s plenty for everyone, folks.
