EXCLUSIVE: Starz said today that due to significant production challenges, the network has decided not to exercise the option for subsequent seasons of its freshman original series Camelot. We’ve heard that scheduling conflicts with some of the actors were part of the problem for the Ireland-shot costume drama, which stars Joseph Feinnes, Jamie Campbell Bower and Eva Green and takes off on the King Arthur legend. GK-tv, Octagon Films and Take 5 Prods produced. Camelot wrapped its first season earlier this month by drawing 1.5 million total viewers, the second-highest viewership for the series behind its two-hour premiere, which set a network record for a series bow. It had been on a ratings upswing for its final few episodes.

I wanted to like this show. But Artur was awful. he was like a fish out of water.Everyone else could act , and he just looked blonde
i agree with you arthers acting was terrible.
Meanwhile, BBC’s Merlin is currently filming its 4th season. Merlin 1 Camelot 0
Merlin is a really great show. I understand it is a kids show and some of it is repetitive but the character and story development is so much better than most American shows.
Alas, I knew this was coming.
While it had noble intentions and some really strong visuals, you just can’t get past bad dialogue, plotting, and editing.
Remarkable because Spartacus (both the orignal and the prequel) had all of these things in spades.
On the contrary, the unique dialogue of Spartacus was one of its major assets. And the story threads and editing were also very strong. It is also a very well-liked and popular show. Camelot is not.
CastingCouch:
I meant that Spartcus had very GOOD acting, plot and dialogue. We are in agreement here.
Really sad about this news. I enjoyed the show immensely. Great fun, didn’ take itself too seriously, and played with the legend in interesting new ways.
Hope that someone else picks it up, or that Starz reconsiders for 2012.
I am very sad that this show has had to come to an end. Maybe if they had of screened this show early, it may have got more ratings. I hope someone can take up the challenge and continue with Season 2 for 2012. I really enjoyed this show. Great credit to all the actors. A job well done to you all.
someone is getting fired at GK-tv.. I wonder what’s in their pipeline for new Series or are they axing the TV division entirely?
Heh! Too funny, I’d bet there’s also some horsewhipping there and at Starz too. It’s really hilarious to see PR people trying to spin this mess. Why this show was chosen when there were other shows, I don’t know…
Yeah, GK-tv is moving on to a pirate show, Port Royal.
I think this is a shame! I actually think the show got stronger as it went along! I was looking forward to seeing where they took all of the characters
Bring Eva Green to Game of Thrones!
Apparently, bring everyone but Arthur to Game of Thrones.
Please don’t!
Only her breast!
T’was poop.
How can you possibly screw up the story of Camelot?
Weak, unimaginative writing. Extremely weak leading man. Joseph Feinnes’ interpretation of Merlin was one-note (intense) with no shades or subtleties. And did I mention the weak, unimaginative writing?
The guy playing Arthur killed this show, he was horribly miscast. Terrible acting on a par I haven’t seen in a while.
JCB was a miscast.
Even Eva Green’s odd and spectacular beauty can’t save this horribly produced drivel.
I liked Eva Green in this but unfortunately I also thought that Arthur was miscast
Too bad I guess, but the only thing I liked about it was Eva Green.
I never watched it, although I would like to eventually. Merlin, however, is a show I wholly enjoy.
I am incredibly unhappy about this news! I loved every cast member, from the devil nun, to Joseph Feinnes (who I NEVER like in anything). Hopefully someone else will produce it. This show is too good to not make it.
It was the right choice. Series is only fair at best, and the future storyline is limited…plus, Arthur was totally miscast and not believable or appealing to audiences…and, Arthur is the star.
Game of Thrones makes Camelot look like a direct to video show in comparison.
It had two main problems:
1.- Premiered right before Game of Thrones and that show completely destroyed Camelot.
2.- They tried to modernize the source material and it just didn’t go well. Fiennes and Green were awesome, but Bower was beyond bad, made it painful to have to watch him get so much screen time.
It definitely got better to the end but Arthur was too much of a pretty boy alas (and rubbish acting I’m afraid) and suffered.
I remember seeing the actor playing Arthur at an Empire even two years back for Twilight and being genuinely shocked by his idiocy, talk about a male dumb blonde.
I liked Camlot & i like Merlin, but Katie McGrath’s smirks of doom dive me insane.
& that should be ‘drives’. Stupid phone.
Finally! It took Starz long enough to admit that Camelot sucks.
At first I was interested and supported the show, but it went down hill fast! Ugh! Hopefully Starz will go on to better projects.
Ridiculous script, bad casting for Arthur, etc., etc. Glad it was put out of its misery. Too bad, because Spartacus is great.
Eva Green should be on the big screen, anyway.
They announce this the day before it becomes available on Netflix streaming. I was excited about watching this show, but knowing that it’s a one-season show, not sure I want to get invested in these characters. I wouldn’t mind Game of Thrones snagging Eva Green and James Purefoy. Can’t speak to the rest of the cast since I only saw the pilot.
Camelot was dredful’ it’s only saving grace was the amazing Eva Green. Arthur was miscast with a talentless actor who wasn’t even pretty enough for the role and the plots were stupid.
