the trailer was a direct heist from a sequence in Catfish. kudos to those spoiled kids from manhattan.
Kudos to SHUT THE FUCK UP
When DH announced these awards, there were NO posts whatsoever…except mine noting there were NO posts.
So, far, not counting this…there is only one post on this so far. I will be curious to see if the lack of interest is consistent.
But, as stated in my original post…I do believe their is a great art and talent and understanding of storytelling required to produce great trailers….and, of course…it helps if the material is strong with which to work knowing much may still be in post and not available for the trailer.
The Social Network trailer is better than some movies I’ve seen. Ditto for the recently released teaser trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
What else was nominated? Or won? Some (or most) trailers are better than the films they represent. Why do you think I’m seeing Transformers this weekend? Or paid to see Cliffhanger or the first Mission: Impossible? I got choked up at the Super 8 trailer. Marketing is a business, sure. But it’s also a form of art that stimulates and inspires…to pay for admission. Release the nominees, Nikki! Or I can just google it…
Lionsgate won more awards overall than any other studio.
Congrats to Scott Mitsui – the producer of the spot!
Marc Woolen continues to carry the flag in the AV field. If it weren’t for Horvath, we’d be talking about a Secretariat style gap between runner-ups.
Mark Woolen is a prodigy and his ideas for trailers are always a work of art. The Social Network Trailer was all him. To this day, I still watch his Assassination of Jesse James Trailer that he created a few years back and just amazed with how perfect it is.
But Jenn Horvath? There are a lot of great trailer editors that I would put before her. The editors that can make a bad movie look great are the ones at the highest level. Bill Neil is the first that comes to my mind.
so how much of the trailer was fincher and how much was woollen?
Tom has some weird hang ups.
