Exactly one month before CBS’ Criminal Minds is scheduled to start production on its upcoming 7th season, there is still no deal for co-star Thomas Gibson. And word is that talks between the actor and CBS have stalled. That is creating an issue for the series’ writers who convened at the beginning of last week to break stories and work on scripts for next season. Gibson’s character, Supervisory Special Agent Aaron Hotchner, has been key to the show’s storylines, so it would be difficult to map out next season without knowing if he will be back. Expectation is that a deal will eventually be made as the show is looking for cast stability after the drama surrounding co-stars A.J. Cook, Paget Brewster and Rachel Nichols this past season. Despite not having a deal, Gibson has been fulfilling all Criminal Minds obligations. He mingled with international buyers at the LA Screenings and is currently in Europe. Along with Criminal Minds co-star Matthew Gray Gubler he will represent the show at the Monte Carlo TV festival, which starts tomorrow, and will also participate in a press junket in London.

Criminal Minds is one of the few shows where the exact chemistry of the cast and characters is completely perfect. Everyone has a niche and plenty of room for growth, with a minimum of unnecessary drama. Gideon was a good character, but I felt like he’d outgrown his role in the FBI by the time he left, and Rossi replaces him well without simply being a clone. I hope that Thomas Gibson does return. Even though I would watch the show without him, I’d really rather not have to.
Why on earth would you change the perfect cast? With all other things happening around us-some shows are outstanding. What-another reality fluff?

This show is the best-AJ, Prentis and Hotch are key. They make the show and need to be there.
If CBS doesn’t bring back Thomas Gibson for season 7, the show will lose a viewer. He’s worth every penny and is integral to the show.
Please sign a new contract, you and your character are great. C/M won’t be the same if you left.

To CBS execs: In case it’s not that clear yet… Gideon can come ang go, Emily can come and go (and come again), JJ can come and go (and come) again… the show will be OK. Hotchner leaving? NOT OK. Have the deal signed ASAP before somebody screws up again!
Clearly Emily and JJ can’t come and go, that’s what the whole contoversey has been about. The uproar from fans over them being dropped proved that no one castmember is more integral to the show, as any other. This TV show has an amazing cast, truly wonderful chemistry between them all. CBS would be absolute fools to loose Gibson,especially after the Paget and A.J farce, he’ll be in season 7.

Look we need Hotch he keeps the family together. He passed up the idea of retirement already. As much as he loves his son ,he is the tyope of person that knows that the BAU needs him man please keep him on the show. If he leaves than there wont be any hot white men on the show

You know,it is most likely HIS management team trying to get the best deal possible knowing that the producers/studio/network doesn’t want any more disruptions in the cast.
Agreed. Also, Thomas Gibson lives in Texas and just stays in LA for filming, so I wonder if negotiations about scheduling are also a big part of the hold up. I’m not really worried though, it seems as though both sides want to make a deal, so I have a feeling they’re just working out details still.

It’s not a case of “This character MAKES the show” when it comes to Criminal Minds. As someone above said, he is intergal to the show; so is everyone else. When Paget and AJ were axed, a good wave of people went back out to sea, and didn’t come back in until they were sure it was safe. If Shemar, Joe, Matthew or Kristen were in the same position, the news would be generating the same upset with fans…very few shows have such a pitch-perfect cast. Very few shows have fans who would be devestated if any character were to leave…I should hope Thomas signs soon…if not for himself, then for the fans. Please. They’re all such huge components of this show, they’re what a lot of people watch it for – not even the storylines or intrigue can top what these characters bring to the table. I’d watch it if it was simply an ensemble piece, with them sitting around a table talking. I swear, I would. Don’t let anyone else go, CBS, you have a very special, very great, very RARE thing going here…don’t ruin it all again.

This is unbelievable. CBS/ABC give Thomas Gibson whatever he wants. He’s earned it and deserves it. CM will fail without him.
He needs to come back,he’s my favourite character and I love him. Also I’m still desperately clinging to the hope that he and prentiss will hook up….at the very least I wan’t to see the conflict of him having kept her secret from the team,surely they’ll be some tension there.
I hope his new contract is per episode and not per smile.
I had my teenage daughter watch an episode of Dharma and Greg a few weeks ago and it took her at least 20 minutes to realize that Greg was Hotch. She didn’t realize that Hotch COULD smile!
We really, really, REALLY need Hotch back – it will NOT be the same and I’m not sure I will bother watching.
Gibson has been an integral part of this show since it’s inception. Perhaps, given how actors have been treated in the past year, CBS has realized that people have integrity and know their worth. Whatever the issues…I’m fed up with CBS playing the “hokey pokey” with the actors and if Gibson isn’t back that will make it much easier for me to stop watching. I’m already 3/4 of the way there now. It seems to me that if money is an issue the fact that they’ve laid out mucho dinero for Ashton Kucher to replace Charlie Sheen, legal costs for court case with said Sheen…they probably don’t have enough do-ray-mi left for those who really deserve and earn it. But hey what do I know — I’m just a viewer.
A lot of money and advertising hoopla was wasted on a really awful spin-off, don’t forget. CBS had another winner in CHAOS that they decided to axe after two episodes. At least they are running the remaining eps on Saturday nights now. One small bright spot in the vast wasteland of summer reality crap.
But yes, as mentioned earlier, this ensemble cast is TIGHT. Don’t mess with it.
No Hotchner, no crimnal minds. cbs needs to quit playing around with this show. I think if they changed everyone but hotchner the show would go on. But you can’t have this show without this charactor.

It seems as if CBS/ABC Studios have learn nothing about this last season troubles. Maybe they think that losing AJ Cook and Paget didn’t damage the ratings badly enough than losing a different cast member now that they are both back is going to have the same outcome.
Their problem is that most of the Criminal Minds fanbase is feed up beyond belief with their idiotic antics and, even if they have stayed mostly put during this season to see the girls out and support the rest of the cast, losing Thomas Gibson will be the end. He and his character are just too important for this show and for the fans.
Fans that have helped maintain the ratings steady against the ratings monsters that Fox and ABC schedule in the same time-slot (how happy people on those networks would be if CM loses Thomas Gibson!). Fans that know he has been underpaid and generally under-appreciated for too long. Fans that know (they got the proof this season with the 11th episode) that the cohesion of the team and the believability of the plots will disappear without Thomas Gibson’s character, and because without Hotch they’d resemble too much a certain “rogue” team of a certain show they have had to cancel because… oops! people didn’t like that team and they didn’t watch!
CBS/ABC Studios may want to rethink what the fans are saying when they state:
ALL THE FAMILY, ALL THE TIME
NO HOTCH, NO WATCH
Will not watch without Thomas Gibson; he’s the nucleus of the show. Give Gibson what he wants, he’s more than earned it and has not been recognized for his contribution to CM over the years.
Love the show, good balance of characters and decent story lines… Don’t think the show would be worth watching if you “eliminate” another person off the show especially considering his role is so crucial in a good portion of the episodes….
CBS, I will make this simple for you to understand:
I will not watch Criminal Minds without Thomas Gibson.
