TNT’s new legal dramedy Franklin & Bash premiered with 2.7 million viewers last night, 1.1 million of them in the 18-49 demographic. That is a tad higher than the premiere of Season 2 (and first on TNT) of critical darling Southland (2.5 million) but lower than the debuts of other recent TNT series, including the now-canceled Dark Blue (3.5 million) and last year’s Rizzoli & Isles (7.6 million) and Memphis Beat (4.3 million). However, all those had lead-ins, while Franklin & Bash, which did well with younger male demographics, was a self-starter in the 9 PM spot. It was used to launch the third season of dramedy Men of a Certain Age (1.8 million, 591,000), which dropped alarmingly from its lead-in and was far older-skewing. It was also down 33% from the Season 2 premiere in December.
CMT has renewed country singing competition CMT’s Next Superstar for a second season to launch in late 2011/early 2012. Nigel Lythgoe and his son Simon are executive producing.
Trainer Dolvett Quince, whose clients have included Justin Bieber, has been added as a third trainer on the upcoming 12th season of NBC’s The Biggest Loser alongside veteran Bob Harper and fellow new addition Anna Kournikova.

I forgot this show was even on. The promos looked interesting though… I’ll have to VOD it tonight.
Apparently the series is not available on VOD on Verizon FIOS. Big mistake I think.
How does CMT stay in business? Honestly, the Lythgoe show about CMT’s Next Superstar has painfully low ratings (usually in the .19 to .25 range) and people in the country music industry are embarrassed by it. Too bad the people who run the network absolutely hate the people who enjoy country music.
Rizzoli and Isles only gets, what, a 1.8 in the demo? 1.1 million is around a 1.4 in the 18-49. That’s not terrible. Especially since 40% of its audience was in the 18-49 crowd.
My math was completely off. Only got a 0.9 in the demo. MOACA only got a 0.4, too. Ouch.
Yeah, it’s a BIG surprise when viewers do not tune in for a tired, retread of a legal procedural on basic cable. Seems that most one-hour scripted shows are eitehr medical or legal procedurals. There are exceptions to be sure, but they are in the minority.
Let’s see more creativity on the part of the networks and the viewers will return. (And also, no more reality, talent, and game shows please.)
I really enjoyed Franklin and Bash. I quit watching MOACA last year during the 2nd half of the first year. I love all three main actors but the show just got boring. I hope they keep F&B as my replacement show for The Defenders. All of my favorite shows are on in the summer on TNT and USA anyways. I am a 46 year old guy who skews toward the younger shows. I love Burn Notice…heck I even watch Phineas and Ferb
F&B barely worked. Why do they think they have to reduce everything to a cliche? The talent was ok & nice to look at but the situations they find themselves in are dumb & unrealistic. At any law firm these days you’d be brought up on charges by HR if you did & said half the things that were done on the show. Cancelled after 13.
I really enjoyed this show. It’s definitely retro. Thought the pilot was really well written, produced and directed. It was fun which is what this show should be. Pure diversion.
Maybe they should have called it Tango and Cash?
When will people stop giving Breckin Meyer his own show?! He can’t do it. Move on already.
I agree, Gary….Hamlin at CMT is a waste. Remember “Can You Duet” and the wonders it did for the network? Oh wait…
I want to see a Hardcastle and McCormick reboot.
Only watched to see Mark’s butt
Mark Paul = must pass. isn’t this like his third series in four years?
Long awaited because there was not much on TV besides repeats. But thank God for Men of a Certain Age afterward because Franklin & Bash was in one word “awful.” Won’t last more than one go round.
I can describe yhis piece of crap in one word PITIFUL. anything else on tv has to be better whatever it is why oh why do they keep pushing that absolute nothing on the american public I guess because they can. he was a loser years ago and still is
The trailers promised misogynistic stories. I didn’t believe it could be that bad, but I was wrong. It was worse. Bad acting, bad stories, old genres – who wrote this crap? Get rid of it – I have to pay cable for this station, I expect higher quality and at least a modicum of intelligent writing and acting. The social culture depicted in the show is a very old and highly overplayed bad joke. F&B is embarrassing in its lack of creativity and entertainment.
F&B is the worst show I have ever seen on cable. Misogynistic, poorly written, acted and stupid! Get rid of this old bad joke TNT!!
People Come On Really Now Were All Some Professional Show Analyzer, They Where 2.7 Million Viewers . You Want TNT To Remove This Show But Don’t Consider Those 2.7 Million Viewers That Liked F&B Show What Kind Of People Are You , Tisk , Tisk
. BTW The Show Was Awesome…..I Guess We All Know Who Was The 2.7 Million Viewer
I Love, Love Franklin & Bash; so much better than any of the shows that are on the national networks. I like the fast pace, fast talk; they are hilarious; so thankful they have renewed it.. If not for this show and “Suits” and “Necessary Roughness” this summer with 100+ degree days we had – I don’t know what we would have done.. Keep em coming..
