Something like 20,000 people crowded into Moscow’s Red Square Thursday night for the premiere of Transformers: Dark Of The Moon. Paramount offices were vacant because The Powers That Be all attended. Big overseas premieres are the rage by Hollywood studios right now: in Rio De Janeiro this year, everyone who was anyone at Fox and Universal attended the premieres of Rio and Fast Five respectively there. It all shows a) that studio bigwigs love to spend money on themselves while laying off workers, and b) international grosses are vital:

worst band on the planet
Yep. The more the studios let us know that Americans are expendable as employees and as audiences, the more they will stay away from the cineplex.
“studio bigwigs love to spend money on themselves while laying off workers”
Amen to that…
Top executives in this universe are paid indecent amounts of money for an industry in trouble, get shit loads of “business trips” that their company hardly gets any benefit from (who cares if a business dude attends a premiere?), while complaining to their employees that there is no headcount available for much needed people in the teams to actually DO some work while they’re all fantasising on which colour to paint the corner of a poster.
This is just indecent.
Nice dig, and I agree. Yeah, it gets the movies in question some press, but does every executive on the lot really need to go? These junkets must cost a huge amount of money, and all for a few column inches and free luxury vacations for some executives who already make a shit ton of money and can afford to fly off to Rio on their own dime.
Too true. It’s embarrassing when all the execs fly over on private jets, etc. And far too many go. There’s just no reason for them to be there: premieres are about talent exposure. It’s such a waste of money which could be going to salaries. I’d love for someone to defend this practice.
I agree. Except…
It doesn’t cost the studios anything at all. You see, they’ll just write this (these) expense(s) off as part of “P&A” cost, so they don’t have to pay that money to the deserving back-end participants (director, writers, actors…). It comes straight out of the pockets of those artists who made the movie, and whose income was shorted in the beginning against supposed profits on the back-end. Profits they’ll never see because of corruption like this.
The business model needs to be changed to accurately reflect fair production, prints and advertising costs.
Sounds like all of you are jealous. Maybe get a real job with a studio and stop hating. Success and income doesn’t hurt….
By your line of thinking, perhaps all the teachers in CA being laid off should look for a “real job” too and stop complaining of the state’s kickbacks.
In Soviet Russia, Linkin Park band Concert play you.
They need all the positive press before it opens in North America to what I assume will be horrific reviews. It’s brilliant. of course I would prefer better movies.
Pitched my tent and first in line.
What….You think The Major Studios… All of them Owned by Major Corporate Entities… are somehow exempt from Plutocratic Excess by Senior Executives? They invented the “Business Model” for Christ’s Sake! LOL
Welcome to the New Global Feudalism my dear.
Get an MBA or stop complaining,
the studios do not owe anyone anything and if you don’t know or choose to play by their rules you lose, they have no soul and could care less on what is ahead for them in this or the next life,
Steve jobs figured this out early on in life and look at him now, his net worth 8 billion, his pal steve woz “the woz” 100MM and they both started apple computer,
the MBA teaches you how to leave thousands without a paycheck or a job while you live like a king for life
now all you need is 500k to get one, now how hard it that to come up with ?

Th,see s tar s???? Are to old for the younger crowd. Most adults do not go to movies as in ast
Once again, another article complaining about the evil greedy suites who exploit and deprive the poor downtrodden masses…
Give it a rest, loosers!!
Jobs don’t exist because of money… They exist because work needs doing, and somebody is willing to pay to get that work done… Period!!
Those who complain about the high salaries and the junkets to Moscow and the jets simply suffer from the common co-maladies of ignorance of economics and jealousy. If they had the skills ,the drive and ambition to succeed then they too might be able to take a flight to see a concert on Red Square too rather than curse the fortunes of others who made better choices in life and the fact that others have succeeded where they, the complainers, have failed… Grow up kids…and get over yourselves!!
