EXCLUSIVE: They kicked butt on their previous shows, now they’re going toe-to-toe. British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw, the breakout star of J.J. Abrams’ short-lived NBC spy dramedy Undercovers, has landed the female lead opposite 24 alum Kiefer Sutherland in the Fox drama pilot Touch, written by Tim Kring. The project, which is considered a lock for a midseason series order, centers on Martin (Sutherland), who discovers that his genius son Jake (David Mazouz) is communicating with him through a complex series of numbers and may even be able to predict events before they happen. Mbatha-Raw will play Clea Hopkins, a social worker with Child and Family Services, who is evaluating Martin’s living situation to determine whether or not his son Jake should remain in the home. Mbatha-Raw completes the pilot’s core four-member cast, which also includes Danny Glover. Mbatha-Raw, repped by CAA, Principal and UK’s Curtis Brown, will next be seen in Larry Crowne.

From the little I’ve seen of her, she has “it”. This might be one of the most beautiful and talented women around. She has a sophistication and intelligence well beyond her good looks. I see bigger and bigger things happening for her.

Never watched Undercovers, but I really liked her during her brief run on BBC’s Spooks (MI-5).
I’m happy for her that she’s doing well but I also thought she was flat and reliant on looks in “Undercovers.” The only reason I could see she was cast was for her language ability which was great, beyond that, I’m not seeing what is special about her yet.
The description makes it sound like it’s a supporting role.

I watched 3 eps of Undercovers and she definitely has the look to be a star in the U.S. Hopefully this Pilot will be that launching pad for her. Now, if Touch gets picked up for midseason, how is Kiefer Sutherland going to film 13 episodes of this and 24 the movie at the same time? He alleges they plan to start filming 24 in January, but I assume this will still be in production.
