After his pretty funny “I am a troll” bit on Conan in March, Two and a Half Men co-star Jon Cryer was back on the late-night circuit last night with a visit to David Letterman. In his first public comments on Charlie Sheen’s dismissal from the show, he said that he didn’t see the implosion coming and threw his support behind his former co-star. “I want him to get healthy, I want him to stay sober, I want him to be reunited with his family — that would be the best thing. I love him. He’s a great friend,” Cryer said. Letterman immediately countered with some of Sheen’s verbal attacks on Cryer, including calling him a troll. “As friends do!” responded Cryer. What is the moral of the story of Sheen’s firing from Two and a Half Men? “Nobody in show business can possibly get away with making fun of their boss. It just doesn’t happen.” Here is the video:

Jon is a pro…what else could he say?
Cryer is a very good employee. A pro.
Jon is not only a pro but truly a gracious gentleman.
But what steams me is that Chuck Lorre, Barry Meyer, Peter Roth, Les Moonves only changed the course of the show when Sheen insulted them. Until then his abusing his wife and children, attacking hookers and shooting Kelly Preston was part of his charm. Why has the media reporting this story given the folks in power such a free pass? Do they want their anonymous quotes and inside info for other stories?
And yes Jon Cryer knows where his paycheck is coming from and been sensitive and charming in light of this terrible mess.
Um, 10 more years of 2 and a half men? Try 10 episodes with the creatively unbrilliant Ashton Kutcher.
You can shoot a woman, beat up a whore, beat up your wife but if you say something bad about Chuck Lorre or CBS then you’re in trouble.
Is it okay that we give a free pass to this kind of misogyny at WB and CBS?
It’s to tired and depressing.
Yes, it is.
Money can buy anything, “Joe”. ANYTHING… celebrity, defense, style, character, love, respect…
Money can buy ANYTHING and we are all buyers.
Killer Joe you don’t really know Charlie Sheen personal life..he did not shoot Kelly Preston, did not beat up the whore or his ex-wife..pay attention he was accused of certain things but it was not “beat up”.
But you are right about one thing : you can do pretty much everything if you make lot’s of money for networks, studios and wealthy, money greedy producers and don’t take jabs at them of course..
From a purely human level – I’m a civilian so shoot me – think how relieved Jon must be now that going to work will no longer center about his co-star’s drama.
Jon Cryer should publish a BOOK (if anyone reads those anymore) on how to handle these kind of difficult situations. When this fire started, he stayed low – didn’t seek out publicity or have any of his people making comments to anyone. When he became part of the story, he responded by doing what he does best: he made himself the butt of the jokes, appearing as a punch-line on both Ellen and Conan. Now, with a little more time gone by, he does a full Q/A on Letterman and appears gracious, funny, and caring. He gets an “A” in my book for handling himself with grace under (lots of) fire. Well done, Jon.
nobody would care, a book from Charlie Sheen on the other hand would be a best-seller in a new-york hot minute !
A very gracious gentleman in what I imagine to be a very trying situation. Good for him.
Say what you will about the Sheen drama (and not much hasn’t been said about that) but Cryer and Letterman gave one of the funniest talk show spots in years. I laughed out loud at “Remember when Fred McMurray going batsh*t” and then again with “Chapter 2 – This one’s crazy like the last one”.
I’ll root for Jon Cryer. Seems a decent guy with a great sense of humor.
Very classy gentleman, deserves the success he’s enjoyed. Although I do worry, it’s rare that sitcoms survive a change in cast of their leads… We’ll just have to wait and see but after the initial interest wears off…
I never watched Two And A Half Men until all the drama with Charlie Sheen . Now I watch it every night on the reruns. I think the show is hilarious. I don’t think it will be the same without Charlie . Charlie should go to rehab for at least a year then humbly apoligize to his producers and then might have a chance at getting his job back if it doesn’t work out with Ashton. As far as the letterman interview , I think Jon Cryer did a great job . He is a classy actor and kind man. He is very quick on his feet with witty comebacks to Letterman and he is a great actor.
