EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros has made a preemptive pitch deal for a science fiction action project to be written by Aaron Guzikowski that will reunite Sam Worthington with his Clash of the Titans producer Basil Iwanyk. The logline is being kept under wraps but I’m told it’s a grounded space war film. Through his Thunder Road banner, Iwanyk is in production on the Clash of the Titans sequel. He also produced The Town and is prepping the Jeff Bridges-starrer Seventh Son and the Clint Eastwood-directed A Star is Born with Beyonce, all for Warner Bros. Guzikowski wrote Prisoners, the Black List script that sold to Alcon Entertainment and just got Incendies helmer Denis Villeneuve aboard to direct. He also scripted the Contraband remake that just wrapped with Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale and Ben Foster starring for Universal and Working Title, and he’s writing Awake for USA Network and The Descendants for HBO. He’s repped by Verve and Madhouse Entertainment. Worthington is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.

Won’t it be confusing having two shows named Awake on at the same time.
Probably a space war over unobtanium.
Is this Dan Dare again? What’s the big secret?
Dollars to donuts this is the Dan Dare project they were talking to writers about.
Sam Worthington attracts bad projects like a sticky turd attracts flies. Avatar, Titans, Terminator Salvation…three of the worst movies in the last two years.
Bad actor, bad movies. A perfect fit I’d say.
Sam’s got a little bit of charisma and likability to him, and at least he’s not a wooden actor.
But what I cannot stand is how his Australian accent creeps into every role he does, whether the role requires an American or English accent, or whatever accent gods had in ancient Greek mythology. I swear even his Na’vi has a hint of Australian in it.
Among other reasons, Sam’s accent as Jake Sully really hindered Avatar. “When Aye wus lying thehr in the V.Aye. hawspital, w/ a biig ‘ole blown thru the middle of my lyfe, I staawted ‘aving these dreams owf flying. I wus free. Soonah or layter though, you awwlways ‘ave to wayke up.”
Sam’s accent in Clash of the Titans was even more hilariously out of place.
Seriously, can’t he get an accent coach? Otherwise, he and other guys like Gerard Butler are just going to fade away sooner or later.
Yeah, Avatar was REAL bad for his career. Idiot.
Avatar is a bad movie. Humungous box office and yes, great for Worthington’s career, but still a bad movie. Worthington is a no-talent except when it comes to doing a passable imitation of cardboard trying to emote. It’s the classic case of studios trying to continually foist an actor onto audiences, in the hope they will stick. Whereas audiences either don’t want to see them and stay home, or go to their films for other reasons. Doctors call it the Shia LaBeouf Syndrome.
Dan Dare Vs. Buzz Lightyear
John V. Karavitis Although I love sci-fi movies and TV series, nevertheless, “war in space” is a very difficult theme to properly present. For example, in my opinion, Battlestar Galactica (the re-make) was very convoluted and slow-moving. A lot of people lost interest in it very quickly. “War in space” also means that the writers will have to try and craft situations with which the person on the street can relate, in a scenario where there is a constant threat of death and destruction. This kind of intensity is difficult to create, let alone maintain, and keep viewers’ interests high. I wish them luck. John V. Karavitis
^^^ But they did do like $4Billion at the BO combined…Just saying tho…
POLL QUESTION: With the world seeming to be in the palm of these up-and-comers’ hands, who is worse at deciding their future – Sam Worthington OR Gerard Butler?
Damn good question, Pollster! It’s almost up there with which came first, the chicken or the egg?! I’d say Gerard Butler. Although he’s by far the better actor (I’ve not seen anything from Worthington I’d actually term acting), it’s SW who’s laughing all the way to the bank.
Iwanyk is the stamp of quality. Kind of like KMart.
Dan Dare = Meh.
The Forever War = Hell Yes!–If they don’t pull a Starship Troopers on it.
Yes this is the Dan Dare project.
Fir those that point to Avatar- Worthington was a supporting actor, as was the entire cast. . I agree- he has not chosen a project that shows his acting chops. Still waiting to see if he has them.
LET’S GIVE THE MOVIE A CHANCE BEFORE CRUSHING IT!
A GREAT WRITER CAN ACHIEVE THE GOAL AND MAKE THE
STAR REALLY FIT THE ROLE.. POSITIVE VIBES!
Robotech! Nuff Said.
