Today Legendary Comics’ first panel at the Con unveiled that the company will publish two new projects from artists Paul Pope and Matt Wagner who were surprise guests. Paul Pope’s art book, PULPHOPE, will feature more than 200 pages of Pope’s career retrospective and includes many never before seen pieces. Past projects from Pope include BATMAN: YEAR 100, Liquid and 100%. The book is scheduled for release this holiday season.
THE TOWER CHRONICLES, from GRENDEL and MAGE creator Matt Wagner, and developed with Legendary’s Chairman and CEO Thomas Tull, is a supernatural action/adventure that tells the story of a bounty hunter with a hidden past. John Tower and his team of high-tech mercenaries are all that stand between civilians and things that go “bump” in the night.

Matt Wagner is a comic book legend, so what better home for his new project? Paul Pope is an absolute genius as well. And the guys at Legendary really know what they’re doing, so this is a recipe for awesomeness. Love it!
Pope and Wagner are both great talents. But the “when things go bump in the night, we bump back” thing seems a little derivative. Oh well, Wagner’s been at it for a long time. This is the obvious, retirement-fund idea (the GOOD, non-commercial idea would be a movie of “Devil By The Deed”).
“John Tower and his team of high-tech mercenaries are all that stand between civilians and things that go “bump” in the night.”
Sounds like everything else on Legendary’s slate.
Wagner, whose early stuff I like, lost me completely with the MAGE sequel (nearly as bad as the Star Wars prequels), and he’s been living off the Grendel property for too long.
His last interesting project was Sandman Mystery Theater, this seems like a variant of Challengers of the Unknown meets Fringe meets Doc Savage…
Hi Ras, I hated the MAGE sequel as well. The last thing Wagner did that I liked was the first Batman/Grendel.
But why *shouldn’t* Wagner live off the Grendel property? It’s his signature creation.
