EXCLUSIVE: A&E Network has greenlighted for production Stephen King’s Bag of Bones, a two-night, four-hour mini-series starring Pierce Brosnan. Annabeth Gish will co-star in the project, based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel. Kelly Rowland also is expected to join the cast of the mini, from Sony Pictures Television, which will premiere on A&E in the fourth quarter of 2011. Mick Garris will direct from a script by Matt Venne. Filming is scheduled to begin next month in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Bag of Bones centers on bestselling novelist Mike Noonan (Brosnan), who is unable to stop grieving after the sudden death of his wife Jo (Gish). A dream inspires him to return to the couple’s lakeside retreat in western Maine where he becomes involved in a custody battle between the daughter of an attractive young widow and the child’s enormously wealthy grandfather, the mysterious ghostly visitations, the ever-escalating nightmares and the realization that his late wife still has something to tell him.
Bag of Bones is executive produced by Mark Sennett for Mark Sennet Entertainment, Mick Garris for Nice Guy Prods., Stewart Mackinnon for Headline Pictures and Craig Sheftell. Brian Gary and David Davoli are the co-executive producers. Garris, Sennett and Venne had been working on a Bag of Bones adaptation for several years, originally as a feature and then as a mini.
This is the second high-profile miniseries fronted by a movie star to be greenlighted at a A&E Network over the past couple of months. A&E’s sibling History in May picked up The Hatfields and McCoys, starring Oscar winner Kevin Costner. CAA-repped Brosnan is already in business with Sony Pictures TV on an international private investigator series project from veteran ER writer-producer Jack Orman. Gish is with Innovative and Thruline.

Pierce Bronson is good casting for the role,, its a great story and the four hour running time is about right to move the story along at good pace,, Im sure Mick Garris will do an excellent job,,
Garris again? The guy’s work is generic and never great. How about trying someone else with a King adaptation?
Love Annabeth. good for her.
Pierce Brosnan and Mick Garris are the best possible choices in the world for this excellent novel!! This will ROCK!!
This IMO is Stephen King’s best novel. So I say it is about time this came into development.
Years ago this was in talks to be a big budget hollywood adaptation starring Bruce Willis, atleast those were the rumors. However, a story this long and powerful will probably be better served as a mini series.
I for one can’t wait to see this and really like Brosnan in the role of Mike Noonan, HOWEVER………
….my only major concern is that this novels most powerful moments were quite graphic. I think this would be much better served as an HBO mini series since those scene will most certainly be neutered on AMC.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this turns out. Has the potential to be quite a disaster though if not handled properly.
This is a really good book (and you can’t say that about all Stephen King novels) and should make a really good mini-series. Not so sure about Pierce Brosnan — seems a bit old for the part — but I’ll be watching.
I would luv to see Kelly playing in this series! She would be great & she is so beautiful & has a bangin body!
Love Matt Venne and another script he wrote called “The Nightly News.”
At Last!
Stephen King’s “Bag Of Bones,” is one of my favorite novels. I like where the casting appears to be going. Kelly Rowland formerly of Destiny’s Child will be very interesting if she is to play the vengeful Sara Tidwell… And hopefully the story won’t be watered down to remove the brutal elements that drive the core of the plot. This is one of the only novels Stephen has written where it dealt with the issue of racism and it’s twisted results. Most of Stephen’s memorable black characters, and there are very few of them, have been saintly figures of ideal Nobility, from Mother Abigail in the “Stand” to John Coffee in “The Green Mile.” I had always wanted to play the role of Halloran in “The Shining,” though at the time I would have been too young. Scatman Cruthers and Melvin Van Peebles both had a shot at that role in the Stanley Kubrick feature and later in the TV Movie, also directed by Mick Garris. The character of Red in “Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption,” for which Morgan Freeman is STILL owed an OSCAR, was not originally intended by the author as a Black Character. that can be owed to the vision of Frank Darabont. I pray the importance of Sara Tidwell’s ordeal is not minimalized in this production. Stephen King has created magnificent characters in this story… of equal import of one to the other. He is my favorite Contemparary American author right now. I will be watching.
That’s a really good news! This project has been postponed so many times as it was supposed to be shot one or two years ago…
Cant wait!
Can’t wait to see it,is one of my favarite Stephen king books,I cry with this book =) ,Love the cast!
Stephen King is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!
Watched part one and it was awesome.I’ve been reading Stephen King’s novels for years and this is one of his best efforts. Can’t wait til tomorrow for the conclusion.Pierce Brosnan is perfect.
Come on people!. Are you kidding . It was a droner. Not once did I not guess the plot. Peirce was good. Acting was good. Very disjointed. And as I had taped it I threatened my friend with death if she disclosed anything to me. Which of course she did. Alas , on the 1st episode she said “well there is alot of f======.I also have read all his books plus {Koontz}. Gotta stay I stand on THE STAND.
