After a lengthy screening and decision-making process for their two pilots Longmire and Big Mike, A&E brass just passed on one of them, Big Mike. No official decision has been made on Longmire yet, but buzz on the project starring Matrix standout Robert Taylor has been strong, and I hear that A&E is leaning heavily toward picking it up to series. Based on the Walt Longmire Mystery series of novels by Craig Johnson, Longmire is named after its central character, Walt Longmire (Taylor), the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyo. Widowed only a year, he is a man in psychic repair but buries his pain behind his brave face, unassuming grin and dry wit. Co-starring in the Warner Horizon-produced pilot, which was directed by Chris Chulack, are Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase and Cassidy Freeman. Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny wrote the project and are executive producing with Greer Shephard and Mike Robin. The Sony TV/Happy Madison-produced Big Mike, written by Ed Decter and John Strauss and directed by Paris Barclay, starred Greg Grunberg as a plus-size detective with the San Diego Police Department. A&E recently renewed Breakout Kings for a second season, with its other scripted series, The Glades, also appearing on track for a third-season renewal.

Really happy for Katee Sackhoff and Cassidy Freeman! They are amazingly talented actors, and wonderful people.
Long mire seems interesting. Hopefully AE allows some opportunity to play with serialize plots and writers to be creative. Then would finally have a As for Big Mike the only thing that made it interesting was the San Diego setting. Which was were the beloved underrated Gem Terriers season 1 was filmed.
whistle, whistle
Took ride Trickster and Javelin Man to town down by the sea
Whistle, sob, whistle, sniff
I know nothing about Big Mike other than the tagline and casting, but based on that it sounds like a perfect fit for USA or possibly TBS, I wonder if they’ll shop it there.
I love Greg Grunberg. He’s so FUNNY. I hope USA picks up BIG MIKE. TOTALLY AGREE…
Hope Longmire gets picked up; I’m a huge fan of the books, and the cast sounds terrific. Looking forward to it…
shoot, I worked with greg grunberg once and he is awesome and the nicest guy. don’t know if the pilot was good but he should land somewhere ’cause he’s a good actor and can be really funny, too.
I know nothing about Longmire but I really feel like Katee is an extremely talented actress and hope she is given something other than the bad-ass chick, cop, fighter pilot etc. Give her something vulnerable, tender, dramatic, feminine!
Justified is moving to a&e?
Longmire sounds amazing, I really hope this gets picked up.
Like the idea and really wish for more of this trend – Longmire is one of those series that may not be as well known as Patricia Cornwell or Harlan Coben but it has great potential for a series – just hope it does not come off too similar to ‘Justified’.
As a big reader of mystery series over more than two decades i can say that there are a lot of great ‘little’ series out there that are TVworthy. Sophie Dunbar’s ‘Eclair’ books are like Jerseylicious in the Deep South – very funny – and Sue Henrys Alaska mysteries have a great setting. Jane Rubinos Cat Austen&Victor Cardenas books set in Atlantic City have maybe my favorite characters (Victor is my dream man), and since the airline series and Playboy Club and Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire return to period pieces, the Roaring 20s of KK Beck’s Iris Cooper and Catriona McPhersons Dandy Glover are both really prime time ready – as is Becks hilarious send up of early Hollywood, The Revenge of Kali Ra.
And i also think Katee Sackhoff is terrific.
LOL Barbara! I always thought Sackhoff would be great as Sue Henry’s ‘musher’ Jessie or maybe as Kate Shugak in the other Alaska series by Stabenow. I also adore Victor Cardenas in the Rubino series and Kali Ra had me in tears I was laughing so hard! Good picks!
The Walk Longmire books are terrific and the cast is amazing. Hope A&E is smart and doesn’t pass up a real winner.
did anyone read that script of “Big Mike” – it was terrible & “Love Bites”?? – where has Greg Grunberg’s career gone
I absolutely LOVE the Lonmire series. This would be a show that I simply MUST see!! PLEASE A&E…. PICK THIS SHOW UP!!!
