Our sibling site TVline has the story: Glee exec producer Ryan Murphy isn’t bringing Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Chris Colfer back for Season 4. It’s not new news because the plan always has been to graduate the cast. Um, but weren’t these the best cast members? Worse, this megalomaniac-in-the-making brags that he didn’t bother to tell Monteith before telling the media. And announcing it on the eve of the Emmy nominations is simply classless.

GOOD! Colfer and Michele’s heads have gotten WAY too big. I can’t wait to see them fall off the map after season 3.
Please Lea has already had more a career in her chosen field than you ever will.
The show is toast.
Their possible failure to have continued success won’t make your life any better.
Well Lea will probably be very busy post-Glee, saving the animal kingdom.
People always say this but as someone who’s watched every single interview with them, I don’t see any big headedness at all. I think it’s just you buying into the media which is just really sad. Or maybe you don’t have a sense of humor and can’t tell when Chris is being sarcastic. Probably a bit of both.
THANK YOU!
I love it. Can’t stand Lea Michele. Colfer’s storyline was getting over-the-top maudlin, but that wasn’t his fault.
wow you know Lea? Oh yeah you don’t and you know nothing for sure about her either.
Regardless of personal thoughts of the actors, this was still a lousy way to tell C.M.
I agree. According to HR, Murphy acknowledged that while he hasn’t discussed graduation plans with Monteith yet, he presumes he’s aware that Finn will be among those graduating. “He knows he was a sophomore when the show started.” What a prick!
I thought the plan was always to segue to knew students anyway. It’s not like they were gonna be in school forever right? I’m not sure what the big deal is.
“Knew students”? Really?
“knew”? Lol! You echoed my thoughts precisely, Larry in NoHo. That said, homonyms can be tricky but seeing all of these misspellings and horrible bastardizations of grammar on reader feedback forums of reputable sites such as Deadline and the New York Times/Los Angeles TImes makes me wonder if the average American passed Grammar 101 in high school or college.
It’s flat-out dreadful — and painfully embarrassing. But it is worth it for a damn good laugh. Maybe we are, indeed, becoming a ‘confederacy of dunces’ if we aren’t one already !
The big deal is that he simply did not tell one of his main actors that his contract would not be renewed. Ryan Murphy said he discussed the situation with Chris Colfer and Lea Michele, but not with Cory Monteith. Which is a really douchey move. It would have taken him a minute to get Monteith on the phone and tell him his character would be graduating at the end of the next season and, therefore, leaving the show. But no, instead, he let him find out through the media. Not even a courtesy call. Classy.
so maybe it will actually make the show decent again. First season good; it has been a crapfest ever since.
but clearly it is following the Degrassi:next generation model.
You say this like there was EVER a reason to watch Glee.
Amen. Horrible show!
So true!
I never saw a single episode, nor one single minute.
I am grateful.
Yet you still comment on it. Hmm…
It always makes me laugh when someone doesn’t watch something, but always takes the time to comment negatively whenever it comes up somewhere.
So why are you wasting your time commenting on a show you never got to watch?
Umm…then why the f**k are you guys on here? Please don’t tell me you’re a grown man coming on the Internet to hate on Glee. We have a couple of virgins here.
Win.
Um, Monteith is one of the worst characters on Glee. Doesn’t have a very good singing voice and cant stand his character. Lea does have a great voice, but surely wont be too hard to find someone with as good a voice as hers. Colfer’s character has just become stereotypical and Im not a big fan of his voice either.
I agree though that Murphy is classless, though he thinks he rules the world.
Monteith isn’t a character, Finn is.
Actually, Monteith is one of the best actors on Glee. But I’ll say that Finn in Season 2 has not been written well.
it isn’t cory’s fault he got stuck with a character who started out with potential but ended up getting written differently every episode to fit whichever choppy storyline was happening.
his voice may not be as strong as some of the other cast members but it has improved greatly since the start of the show and that is a direct result of his hard work and dedication.
also his acting skills are some of the best of any actor of the cast, he is so subtle in his acting and he literally becomes finn whenever he is on camera. he has so much patience to just sit back and waste all his talent on the crappy and weak storylines he is given to work with.
if he could they would have shown up on the glee project and none of them have the talent of Lea or Chris.
He tried to hire Charice to rival Lea but voice wise they were a draw but Charice can;t act.
We’ve known this for months. Why is everyone freaking out now? It’s been made clear that the kids were going to graduate next year, so… Do we really want 6th year seniors? Chill out.
Lea Michelle is gonna star in Funny Girl in LA, then Broadway
I gave up on the show at the beginning of Season 2, and have never looked back. Ryan Murphy is the worst thing to happen to his own shows. Nip/Tuck was good at the beginning, too.
Same here, the second he gets an ounce of critical praise it goes to his head and his shows start to suck. Poor Monteith, he seems so nice.
Indeed, he is a humble, articulate young gentleman. I had the great fortune to attend a small schmooze dinner to which I’m certain he got roped into attending. And yet, he was gracious and patient and charming, and engaged the old suits and the young ladies equally. I have been consistently impressed with the way he’s handled himself in the press, too – he’s astute and even-tempered and seems genuinely appreciative of the significant opportunity he’s been given. It wasn’t lost on me that, although Lea Michele was clearly supposed to be the “star” of the show, increasingly throughout the last two seasons, both the studio and the network have turned to Monteith to serve as the unofficial frontman for the cast and the series.
He’s going to have one of those smart, admirable, measured careers like Clooney (without the superstardom).
Thank you for telling us the real Cory Monteith is in person. Although he had been doing his most dedicated work for Glee, he is the most under appreciated actor in the Glee cast in the media.
um Lea is the star no “suppose” about it. Monteith may just be better has these meet and greets. Which is great and I wish him luck, but don’t pretend Lea isn’t the break out over Cory.
If you look at the very beginning Cory and Lea were the lead on and off the screen. Just look back at the Hot Topic tour. These two took the lead.
Lea has also often noted she is often overwhelmed by crowds and such, this going back to her b-way days.
You’re an overinvested Lea fan.
Ryan Murphy is the worst thing period.
There’s still a third season to go with these guys and all of them were 16/sophomores in season 1, so this is kind of non-news.
While the method of letting the media tell someone they’re fired does reek of a**holery, I think that if any of them didn’t see this coming they’re unbelievably naive. High school shows with cast members that are already in their 20s when the show starts either have to graduate within 3 seasons or it all starts looking kinda creepy.
I’m sure they all saw it coming. It was also said from the beginning that the cast might graduate after the third season (Murphy has actually always said that). But, still, he should have had the decency to at least call his actor to let him know that, after the next season, he’d be done with the show. It’s really not that hard.
They may be extremely talented. But they are all getting too OLD to play high school students! Time to move on
Yeah you guys were planing on switching to new character after they “graduate” but this is going to be too soon for some big fans. And that is horrible that he told the media before him, no matter how much you like him or don’t, that is just plain rude and disrespectful.
Pretty classless of Ryan not to pull Cory aside. You just don’t do that to people, even if “he must have known”. Cory has really turned out to be a terrific performer. His awkwardness is his trademark now.
Any show featuring a school and students has to have some turnover. Heather Morris, however, could stay on there forever. What a joy to watch.
Heather truly COULD stay on there forever, as there’s little chance of Brittany graduating!
yeah that is real realistic that she hasn’t flunked before but she does her senior year.
no, Cory Monteith. Why not just hold them back or do Glee the college years and follow Shuster to a college that the entire cast is going. What is worked for Saved by the Bell.
Saved By The Bell: The College Years didn’t even last beyond a full season, so that might not be the best example.
An example that sort-of worked was Degrassi, as some of the characters graduated and were followed to college; I say “sort of” as eventually those characters were all phased out after 2 or 3 seasons. With the exception of some of the original series characters, who would show up in the new Degrassi as adults – “Snake” is now the principal of the school, even.
A college that the entire class plus their teacher is going? Yeah that’s believable.
And you also lost your argument when you used Saved by the Bell as a model.
I gave up on the show mid-way through season 2, but this sounds like a horrible plan. Like them or not, Michele, Colfer and Monteith are the heart of the show, the same way Beverly Hills 90210 was built around Shannon Doherty, Jason Preistly and Luke Perry. Now granted, all three of those cast member eventually left the show, but not all at once and certainly not all 3 were gone by the time Season 4 came around.
Anyone remember an episode of American Dad when Roger (the alien) said he knew 90210 was over when they started giving Nat his own storylines? How long before Glee gives the piano player the same?
Although Murphy’s lack of tact is literally stunning, this news broke months ago when he gave an interview saying that the whole cast was going to be graduating. The only way any cast would stay would be if they flunked and that he wanted to go out and discover more new talent rather than having 7 year seniors. So this isn’t really shocking. Since Lea Michele was already a Broadway star I seriously doubt she’ll be falling off the map. Sorry to disappoint anyone.
Murphy is a douche. He’s like that kid that got picked on way too much in school and is now lashing out. Classless douche! I’m sure they will all do just fine without GLEE.
Yes he is and he is roundly disliked and feared by those who work on his productions. His treatment of the cast will be the downfall of GLEE, the writing suffers because his ego is in the way, he thinks he can do no wrong. The shame of Ryan is he is tiny man wearing big shoes he can never hope to fill. He has just has been faking it so long, he believes it. He is not brilliant he just caught someone else’s lightening in a bottle. Awful man.
I didn’t watch this show anyway. Now I have another reason why I don’t.
The first season was cool…but the second one failed…and what was up with that Finale?
I am sure their contracts will get out of hand by the fourth season….
I always thought Glee would be on for three seasons because they were going to graduate. I’m surprised they think they can continue past season three. They are going to have to do a lot better with the story lines. Isn’t Lea Michele’s headed to broadway after this to do a revival of Funny Girl. If not broadway producers are dumb cause this would definitely be a sure hit. Unlike all that tens of millions wasted on Spiderman.
Worked with Murphy back in the day. He comes out strong but ultimately fizzles. He jumps more sharks than Evil Knievel. He’s his own worst enemy. He gets a dozen projects going at one time and they all turn to crap cuz he can’t give the proper attention to any of them over any length of time. They should just pay him to do the pilot and then kick him to the curb.
Evil Knievel never jumped any sharks. The joke is “he jumps more sharks than Fonzie.”
NOT true. he jumped a tank full of lemon sharks. A stunt that was used as a storyline for Fonzie on Happy Days. Hence the term “jumped the shark”. But it does actually originate with a EK stunt.
Can’t wait for this show to get off the air. Hate it.
Honestly, who does Lea Michele appeal to? Nice knowing you.
her millions of fans. Why doesn’t she appeal to you is the real question.
She can act sing and is pretty all good things.
To a lot of people who can recognize talent when they see it!
As with every other performer, there are fans and there are haters.
Your opinion is your own and that’s it.
Lea Michele’s character may not the most likable but Lea is a true artist.
You may like her or not. Simple as that.
Ryan can’t help it. He kills who he loves and who dares to love him. The trail is full of the corpses of the agents who broke him, the non-writing producer who shepherded him (pun intended), and now the talent of his cast. They dared to threaten him, somehow, some way. But just as Nip/Tuck when way downhill after season 3 or 4….
The nice thing about movies is that they’re in the can before he’s had a chance to go paranoid/crazy.
