UPDATE: Cenk Uygur Rails Against MSNBC: Was Told To ‘Tone It Down’ & Invite More GOP Guests
Cenk Uygur’s run at MSNBC sure was short. The news network says that it has “decided to make a change” at 6:00 PM ET, the time slot when since January Uygur has hosted MSNBC Live. “It’s unfortunate that Cenk has declined our offer to have him develop and host a program for another time slot,” MSNBC adds. The Turkish American radio talk show host plans to hold a teleconference with the press on Thursday where, the invitation says, he will ”boldly discuss his departure from MSNBC.” The change comes amid reports that MSNBC may turn the time slot over to controversial civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton who generated decent ratings filling in for Uygur while he was on vacation.

I wasn’t impressed with him. He didn’t move my emotional thermostat. Reverend Al is better as a guest. He doesn’t work as a news reader. More importantly, I get sick and tired of mainstream news organizations acting like there are only 5-6 black folks in America. There a a bunch of liberal black journalists who could make this a much better segment than Al. How about Roland Martin, Joe Madison or Soledad Obrien? All are respected journalist and have a base of support in the black community. Al is tired to tell you the truth. He says uh way too much as well.
Yes yes Joe Madison would be great.
I bet they booted him because he was the only voice who regularly exposed the corruption of BOTH parties. He wasn’t a partisan Democrat, he got a ton of hate from the left for criticizing the Obama admin and lobbyist-influenced Democrats in Congress.
Oh well, apparently he’s making good money with The Young Turks on YouTube. Besides, does anyone trust corporate sponsored cable news?
Eh? MSNBC is much farther left than Obama (and much of Congress) and goes after both parties all the time, much to the chagrin of the Dems in DC. And Ed Schultz, who got there first, was already covering the populist viewpoint. Cenk was so true to himself that he let himself be redundant.
He doesn’t seem so unhappy about leaving, actually. Apparently they offered him good money to remain as a commentator and he moved on to things that interest him more. And we all lived happily ever after.
Terrible idea for MSNBC. Not sure how Sharpton can generate any ratings because he is unbearable to listen to for long periods of time. Maybe he’ll get the opportunity to go over to Current and have a show that is more like TYT.
amen.
Cenk did a great job and I wished he would take the other spot and stay with the station. Al Sharpton on the other hand, speaks my language, he is the Progress leader that we need to get the point across, I love the way he get the truth out of those tea party people. Al knows the right questions to ask to lock a liar up and the Republican get caught every time. Keep him we need him for the 2012 election.
Good for Cenk! I prefer his editorial commentary on the Young Turks daily show 100% more than what we received from him on MSNBC. Fingers crossed he will end up at Current – one request though please bring Ana and other Young Turks!!
Cent is the total package of what middle America is all about. How could msnbc not keep this talent. Come on Steve Capus who is the president and a decent guy I know from high school. You must see the value in this guy. Al Sharpton –no, a decent fill in but not a permanent host. I will miss Gent big time. he was the my man. He was loud with all my talking points and was always spot on in his debates. Bad move Msnbc.
Spot on post. Good for you.
Totally agree. Miss him and hope Current picks him up.
Speaking both for and as a middle-class American:
No… no he does not.
well, i liked cenk. but i will not be watching al sharpton unless he agrees to wear the cowboy hat he wore in the cocaine deal videotape. sharpton is an opportunistic, unapologetic nitwit.
If Uygar wasn’t good enough for seven months on MSNBC, his show apparently didn’t have anything of substance to bring to the table.
Having watched Rev Al a couple of times, I can see why his ratings are higher than Uygar’s. Rev Al takes on the crap from the far left and far right, and he supports the President. MSNBC already has two Obamabashers: Rachel Maddow and Ed Shultz, why would they need a third?
Sorry Uygar fans. At the end of the day, Uygar became a victim of the same problem that Campbell Brown, Eliot Spitzer, and Glenn Beck faced: ratings. When your ratings are abysmal, don’t expect to last long. Good luck to Rev Al, and I hope he does good things for MSNBC. We need more voices like Rev Al in the media speaking the truth about our President and calling out the lies, which is what he has been doing from what I’ve seen of him.
Cenk can go to hell. He sucks. Good for Al. I will watch. Cenk is a pretentious part of the so-called PL aka Hamsher, Green–crooks that make money by bashing the President. Good riddance.
I’m a bit meh about Cenk, I like him, just not every day. Sharpton is HORRIBLE TV. Guess I know when I’ll be watching Keith while waiting for Rachel!
Sorry folks, Sharpton is taking it to the Republicants like there’s no tomorrow. Oh wait, there IS no tomorrow. Good for him.
Moral, never go on vacation.
Earlier in the week it was reported that The Young Turks (his Radio/Web broadcast show) recently broke $1 million in revenue and passed 500 million viewers.
When Cenk first started filling in at MSNBC, it was initially quite challenging for his team to balance TYT with his MSNBC obligations. The schedule has been all over the place and the show has often been cut an hour. On the other hand, Cenk’s fill-ins have started to establish viewers/listeners of their own, which really poises TYT to easily move to a 4 hour format and likely keep an audience.
Looking at a company he owns, with a $1 Million budget on an apparent growth trajectory that is successfully developing talent in it’s own right; I can see Cenk wanting to dedicate his focus to tending and growing his own business rather than bouncing around MSNBC trying to establish some niche to please them.
You got to be kidding me, yet another msnbc host bites the dust…man oh man that station is a complete disaster!!!! hahaha!!! Cant hang with FOXNEWS!!!! LMFAO!!!
I, too, will boycott the MSNBC if they give Sharpton a show — what a piece of phlegm this guy is… I’ll never forgive that racists idiot for his behavior during the Tamara Brawely scam — what an a-hole.
Get over yourself. That was over twenty years ago. Different times. Nobody cares if you boycott.
If your goal is to get Rev. Al off the air then you need to convince sponsors to boycott. Outside of that enjoy whatever network you decide to watch.
Cenk was mostly awful from the get go. While Reverend Al is smart, his TV manner is another kind of awful. MSNBC has lost its ability to innovate and be distinctive. It is cheap, and retains blowhards like Mr. Ed and aggressively boring peeple like Larry O’Donnell. Meanwhile Maddow has become a screamer, losing her appeal. The network needs a complete makeover.
Sure MSNBC. Get rid of a man who actually knew what he was talking about. Cenk has been right on with most of his predictions concerning DC.
I didn’t care for his delivery……….too many, oks and all rights! He seemed so awkward.
I do like Rev Al………he is not too polished, but I know he is sincere!
The only hope for MSNBC at that time of day is pixilated porn — not particularly accurately done pixilation to add that soupçon of daring. Now that would turn things around. On second thought, who needs it. Nope, they are doomed.
He’s a nice guy and I agree with his politics 90%+, but he can’t read off a teleprompter to save his life. His delivery is, bluntly, jarring.
Lets hope Al Sharpton gets his slot. Then we can bet on who replaces Al. Oh! wait! Won’t happen, he is their token.
Sharpton… are you serious? Tell me this is joke.
Bad move. Cenk related to a younger audience. Smart, funny, and didn’t let the trolls blow smoke.
Also, he was not afraid to criticize Obama. I don’t see that from the Rev.
im kinda sad to see cenk go but he really isnt polished enough to be a primetime news host, even for cable. his delivery is ‘cenk-y’ and it shows when compared against other people with more time in fornt of the camera. i think his insight is great and his humor much appreciated. but fit for tv…not really
Cenk would be far better off taking a full 2 hr TYT show to CurrentTV and leave the Comcast corporate hamstinging to lesser broadcasters who will parrot the same rather predictable us-vs-them fluff that MSNBC covers the rest of the day…..that being said, MSNBC is better overall at counteracting right wing propaganda than CNN…..and Murdoch’s FauxNews? – no comment, i don’t wanna get hacked like Rosanne – poor thing
Sharpton is just plain horrible, in speech patterns and such a monotonous voice. Bad choice.
