EXCLUSIVE: In competitive bidding, Colin Quinn has signed with Grand Central Publishing’s Ben Greenberg for Yesterday’s News. Quinn’s first book went for mid-six figures and is a humorous look at humanity and pop culture, in which the former Weekend Update anchor will imagine what daily newspapers from each era of civilization would be filled with, from headlines and op-eds to obits and classifieds. For Quinn, this follows his one-man show Colin Quinn Long Story Short, which Jerry Seinfeld directed for its Broadway run and an Emmy-nominated HBO special. Quinn will bring that performance to Canada this weekend, where he’ll headline the Montreal Comedy Festival. Quinn, whose deal was made by Brillstein Entertainment Partners’ Brian Stern and attorney Jonathan Ehrlich, recently wrapped I Hate You Dad, opposite Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg.

love me Colin – bring back tough crowd for petes sake
Mid six figures maybe with unearned bonuses. Agent hype there for sure. And typical I might add I would guess 150k
You are correct. Nobody cares about a Colin Quinn book let along Colin. Yes, he’s an insider comedy guy but nothing more. Good call, Litguy.
Colin is a genius. His standup is superb. This man is a wonderful entertainer. And this is a great idea for a book. If it’s as entertaining as his Play — it will be quite successful. I’m glad for Colin Quinn. He deserves his success.
Barry Marder
Well T or Barry or whoever you are, couldn’t agree less. This guy is a terd. Not a tard. A terd. He comes from the group of losers called Janie Garefalo. They think they’re cool but come on sister, they are not. Seems like a puffatos piece to me. I believe Litguy is right, too.
I care. I love these Dane Cook-types who like to throw stones…
Don’t forget you have someone holding on line four buddy…
What a great HBO special
Was forced to see his broadway show…funny and super smart…good for him
Ben Greenberg is a rock star.
THE LEGEND IS BACK WHERE HE BELONGS, ON TOP!
Colin is great. I loved Tough Crowd! Colin, Jim Norton, Patrice O’neal, Nick Dipaolo and Greg Giraldo (rip) are all great comics that don’t get enough props, imo. Oh yeah, and that former crackhead-toothy-mfer, Rich Vos, has his moments too.
Seinfeld was the greatest sitcom ever made. I miss Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer. A true classic.
I love Colin Quinn and am happy for his deal. However, this is a perfect illustration of how the publishing industry is doomed. They’re throwing money at a comic few people outside of hard-core comedy enthusiasts know of, for an idea that sounds mediocre at best. What reader is going to pony up the cash for this book when it comes out in hardback? Or when the publisher stupidly tries to charge $12.99 for the e-book version? This industry is done…and I say “good riddance.”
Had no idea Colin Quinn getting a book deal signified the end of the business as we know it? You know how to call em’.
Let’s be honest– the last nonfiction book you bought was about Sarah Palin and the last piece of fiction was by Clive Cussler.
How many ideas can Colin Quinn steal from others before he’s stopped? First he does a show called “Long Story Short”, and now book with fake headlines from different historical periods?! I think we all liked this this the 1st time we saw it — when it was called THE ONION.
At least Colin actually learned to speak coherently since his days doing Weekend Update, when nobody could tell what the hell he was saying.
You forgot to make fun of his short legs, stupid.
