Dimension Films exec veep of production Matthew Stein is becoming a nonexclusive producer for the company after 12 years as an exec there. Stein had been exec veep. This comes shortly after Brad Luff left the production president post of Dimension. Bob Weinstein will have a new executive in place shortly to run his division. Here’s the official word on Stein.
NEW YORK, NY (July 19, 2011) – Dimension Films announced today that Matthew Stein, EVP of Production, is moving from his role after 12 years of service at the studio to transition into a non-exclusive producing relationship with Dimension Films.
Besides executive producing such films as Rob Zombie’s remake of HALLOWEEN, as well as SCREAM 4, and the upcoming APOLLO 18, Stein has been instrumental in the development and production of such varied films as SPY KIDS 4, PIRANHA 3D, YOUTH IN REVOLT, 1408, SCARY MOVIE 4 and many more.
“I am looking forward to getting involved in movie projects outside my role as a studio executive at Dimension Films. The past 12 years have been incredibly rewarding, and I cannot imagine having had a position in which I could have gained more industry knowledge and hands-on movie-making experiences,” said Stein.
“Stein has been a loyal and talented executive for over a decade. He has been my go-to guy on issues in production and development, and was involved heavily in all other aspects, such as marketing. I wish him luck in all his future endeavors – both in his continued relationship with Dimension, and on other future projects,” said Bob Weinstein, Co-Chairmen of The Weinstein Company.

God Bless the Steiner! A good executive and great friend. He will be missed.
Matt Stein is one of the greatest men I have ever had the pleasure to know and work with. Best of luck to him.

Huh? Wasn’t Matt just Bob’s glorified assistant with an EVP title? What a nice way to spin his firing.
Mary,
sounds like someone has a grudge. what did stein every do to you? or is it Bob that did it to you? It’s okay, just point to the part of the doll where the bad man hurt you.
I love Matt and wish him the best . . . what this really means for Dimension is that Bob Weinstein has no one that he trusts anymore, that the company has no idea what it wants to be/do, and that Bob will one day soon be wearing tissue boxes on his hobbit like feet and saving his finger nail clippings. The very idea that resurrect a dying genre studio by releasing nothing but lame sequels and remakes is pathetic. You wonder why the quality genre directors of the day have moved on and the new/young/hot filmmakers work elsewhere.
If Bob still knew what he was doing, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider would be making all their movies with Dimension, not because Bob is sane, but because they know how to make people money, or at least used to.
Listen to that? Hear that silence? It’s Matt’s phone not ringing after being such a jerk to so many people
i want that job!
there are so many cool properties and scripts just sitting out there!
example, make a fricking halo movie! what did district 9 cost?
research the devotion and popularity of the franchise.
even if you spend a hundred thirty it would be BIG.
kevin smith should run it for him!
fcuk!
The funny part is that they are bringing in a line prouducer to replace him and Luff. Shows just how much input Bob wants.
