More assurances that HBO’s long-running comedy series Entourage will spill onto the big screen with a movie, following the end of its eight-season run this fall. “If I had to finance it myself, I would do it,” executive producer Mark Wahlberg said during the TCA session dedicated to Entourage‘s final season. “I’ve been telling Doug, The Hangover is to me very much like Entourage, and look at all the recent success of R-rated movies.” Doug would be Entourage creator/executive producer Doug Ellin. “We’re going to do a movie,” he said. “We’re going to do it, the questing is when and how quickly. Hopefully we’ll come down with an idea and make it happen.”

2 or 3 seasons ago I would have been thrilled for this news. Now, it just seems like it is too late. If they can’t get a 1/2 hour episode to be funny what are they chances they can get a 2 hour movie to be?
A movie involving the series cast will be a sure fire hit as all buddy movies seem to be. Entourage has a connection to men the world over and has produced some of the best on screen characters seen on telivision. Ari, Drama, Lloyd, Walsh and many more. It’s been a great ride and millions of fans world wide are sad to see it go.
Ugh, WHY?!
This show was funny for a few episodes in the first season and probably should have just been cancelled after that.
Why? Doug Ellin can’t write. These guys can’t act. Why HBO? Why?
this show is awesome no other tv show in the world really captures that spirit of comradery something that you might understand had you any friends or influence in your social circle
This show could’ve been pretty interesting if only Doug Ellin hadn’t written it. (funny how that happens)
Oh God. Please. No.
Nobody watches it now! Why waste a crapload of money on something no one cares about????
yeah your entitled to speak for everybody.
really? nobody watches it? on deadline they said this past episode drew 2.5 million viewers….
Check the ratings, bud.
Why did Entourage fall apart? Would it have fallen apart if Chris Albrecht was still there?
This is great news. I’ve enjoyed every season–but always hated the short 23-24 minute format. The length made it difficult to really get into the story lines etc.
I think a movie would do great, I know I’ll see it.
I think it had more to do with the lack of good stories than the format. but it won’t matter if they make a movie because all they have to do is get you into the theater.
Why?
because it will make money. that is why.
Totally agree.
yet…Sex and the City made the step into mindless films and did pretty well at the box office.
The sad part about Entourage is that the show has morphed from a set piece with a great ensemble cast and great writing into something barely recognizable. Sure hope this first episode of the FINAL season was some kind excursion into the bizarro world…and, will never be seen again.
I recorded the season opener. Watched and fifteen minutes in was like “eh…whatever.” Still haven’t cared enough to watch the rest.
I liked the show when it started and s few seasons in. It has faded. Too late for a feature.
The kick is gone.
The ENTOURAGE movie will go into production right after the ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT movie wraps.
Sadly, I think it’s more likely we’ll end up with a couple of Entourage movies, a few more Sex and the City sequels, and 10th anniversary box sets of Arrested Development and Party Down.
Arrested Development – GREAT movie idea that will never happen.
Entourage – Horrible movie idea that will most definitely happen. Sadness.
I enjoy the show, i watch every episode. I just can’t take more than 23 min of Drama’s whining, E pursuing Simone, getting her, then her dumping him, Turtle’s failed business pursuit’s, Vince’s laissez faire attitude and take on life while everyone around him obsesses on his every decision, personal AND professional, and watchin Ari- i’d probably get a stroke watching him run around from studio to studio doing business while trying to win back his wife. Just enough in bite sized peices, i’m a fan but the movie, I will never see.
E pursuing SLOAN, guess you don’t watch every episode
Watch every episode and dont know the proper name of Eric’s love interest? Either your a liar or have the worst name memory of all time its the 8th season for petes sake.
Simone??? You must have meant SLOAN, hmm u must really watch this show.
bad idea. bad bad bad idea.
No derby, you`re wrong on this one….Good idea! Everyone in town`ll want a walk-on here & peeps`ll shell out ticket $$$ just to see who shows up.
W/a big fatso budget behind it, this`ll be like….uhhh, Entourage on steroids.
I agree with the part about “everyone in town’ll want a walk on.” Yes, walk-ons with this movie will be what product placement was to ‘Sex and the City’…..entirely too much of it and blatantly obvious.
My guess is “the product” will be teen heartthrob types who are trying to break out of the mold that made them famous by being in an “edgy” adult comedy, because THAT will make them look “grown-up”. You know, like when Miley Cyrus did her cameo in ‘Sex and the City 2′.
If they do a true ‘Hangover 2′ style comedy, with no sell-out elements like gratuitous people placements, then it could do well and restore some credibility to the show. If not, they’ll end up being a joke and end on a REALLY sour note. At this point, it’s a matter of how Wahlberg wants the show to be remembered.
It could be a real funny movie — if they hired a funny writer and a totally different cast.
I don’t know why anyone is questioning why they’re going to do this. The answer is money and even if the movie is just like a 90 minute episode (drugs, nudity, guys giving high-fives and friendships enduring) people will go see it and it will make money. And the movie will help DVD sales of the show’s past seasons and make for a father’s day gift or whatever and the money will keep flowing. Sex In The City proved a major point.
This would have been an awesome idea 3 years ago, when the show was still about buddies partying and living the dream with a smirk and some reckless abandon. Now it’s pure story arcs, it’s not as “fun” or “funny”, and the original characters we fell in love with are barely recognizable: they never hang out as best friends giving a guy’s point of view, but rather are all about fulfilling their story arcs. Episodes like “ONE DAY IN THE VALLEY”, “DAYFUC*ERS” and “VEGAS BABY” showcase how fun and funny this show and these guys can be, how charming and exciting and (for males) wish-fulfilling. But lately it’s just a drawn on bore about jaded douches who don’t even act like best buddies anymore. Still, I’m hoping for the best from a movie…
I feel like this show lost every hope of continuing as wish fulfullment once Vince got sober. Im not saying that watchin his downward spiral was fulfulling but rather than a bunch of friends hanging out drinking beer telling stories/jokes (which is something most men can relate to) the entire story arch revolves around them trying to keep him from using. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing, it just isnt what I tune into Entourage to watch.
After that season premiere I cancelled my hbo… I’ll pick it back up in the Fall when the real series come back.
That’s dumb. What about curb and true blood? You just cancelled them out too. What series are coming in the fall anyway?
Why Entourage is so bad nowl? No writing staff. Ally Musika. Boom!!!
Awww yeah! Vince is doin’ the movie!
+1 billion
omg.

Opinions are like a-holes..everybody has one. It is still a successful T.V. show or it would have been cancelled seasons ago. Do you think HBO exec’s would just waste time and money on a worthless series? I sure don’t. The movie will most likely perform well in, and it will boost DVD sales for those who never watched the series.

Guess you’re not aware of “How to Make It in America”.
This will never work. Movies about Hollywood normally tank and Entourage sputtered to a slow death years ago. This season seems especially pointless.
I enjoy Entourage. And I’m not a fanatic for The Hangover. But comparing the TV show to that film is an example of wildly optimistic thinking. It has none of the raucous flamboyance, disturbing violence, or simple chaotic inventiveness of that film. And, while I enjoy their polite performances, none of the actors are as interesting.
The movie should have less token celebrity cameos and more of our favorite characters strutting their stuff. Billy Walsh needs to lose his sobriety and get crazy again. More Carla Gugino please. She’s beautiful and an excellent actress? They could also bring back Yair Marx, the shady millionaire from Dubai who was obsessed with Medellin. His yacht seens in Cannes were great! Bring back Josh Weinstein and Davies. Maybe they could join forces to destroy Ari. Raise the stakes for the movie!
He’s comparing it to H II as an R-rated film and speaking more to huge summer R-rated movies have this summer and the heat of the genre.
1.05 billion BO for the 5 r-rated summer comedies produced for under 200 mil.
Who cares?
They GOTTA GOTTA GOTTA bring back MALCOM McDOWELL as Terrence McQuewick to drive Ari CRAAAAAAAZZZZZZY!! What a Great character Malcolm was – and how hilarious it was to see Ari scramble and go nutz with someone as smart, ruthless, and backstabbing dirty business politics as Malcolm’s Terrence was!
PLEASE BRING BACK MALCOLM McDOWELL IN THE MOVIE VERSION OF ‘ENTOURAGE’!
too many caps = no credibility in my book bud
I forget where I heard this idea from, but it’s a good one:
They should keep the series duration of Entourage down to about 3-4 seasons, and then “reboot” the series with new characters, cast, story arcs, etc. Obviously, keep the structure with a young developing star at the core with his entourage/agent/PR/etc surrounding him. And the central character doesn’t have to be a movie star — he can be a rapper, athlete, TV star, or anyone else whose career is on the upswing.
You’d keep the series fresh, and presumably the costs would be considerably less.
To me, the best parts of the series were in the early seasons, where we got to see Vince develop his career and every career decision still had its risks, and Vince and the group were just learning how to handle the newfound success and wealth.
The conflict-free lives of spoiled kids with too much money just isn’t compelling anymore– if it ever was. Maybe that works for reality MTV shows, but HBO audiences expect fresh and daring and dangerous, and Entourage is about as dangerous as an angry old asian lady shaking her wooden spoon at me because I nudge-kicked her little rat-dog out of the way on the very public sidewalk.
Maybe Entourage might make a good movie; after all, those Sex and the City movies are beloved by their “target audiences” who don’t seem to mind purile writing that’s obviously a flambouyantly gay white middle-aged male’s fantasy. Perhaps if they rip off Hangover and put Vince and the gang in some dangerous/comedic situation, it might work. But for that they’d have to get rid of Doug as the writer, in my opinion. Hey, what do I know– I work at the post office and read gossip columns. WELP, back to work… la di daaaa………
Of course they will make an Entourage film. What’s the betting that WB will snap this up or have New Line produce it just like the Sex And The City films.
I mean come on. This is a no brainer. It would continue the brand and could be made for the change found in the folds of Jeff’s couch.
A slam dunk. I’d make this deal all day long.
