The cast of Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea — Chelsea Handler’s new semi-autobiographical NBC sitcom — could probably use a stiff drink right about now. Sources confirm exclusively to Michael Ausiello of Deadline’s sibling site TVline that nearly half of the show’s ensemble — including White Collar alum Natalie Morales, one-time ER nurse Angel Laketa Moore, and Chelsea Lately staple Jo Koy — have been let go. you don’t think it was the terrible script? the terrible acting? the terrible direction? nope must be that something went down…
They cut out the little diversity the show had. I guess it’ll make it easier to throw out more racist jokes.
Thank god. That show needed some serious reworking. The pilot was a mess – Handler’s cameo was the only funny part.

The clips on the internet showed a seriously unfunny flawed show. They’re probably rewriting every single episode.
Noo, Chelsea was just as painfully unfunny as the entirety of the pilot. She was awkward and stiff and her appearance felt very “look at me! I’m playing against type! I’m really the other character, aren’t I great?”
The only standout was Laura Prepon for her dead-on Handler impersonation…even though, thanks in large part to the awful material, it wasn’t even funny.
Handler can’t act; her cameo was painfully clumsy. Best thing about it was the ratty brunette wig. If Handler insists on being on the show (there are so many better actresses to cast as the sister) then for gods sake, lose the fright wig and get some queue cards. And acting classes.
How does she have time for this??

Besides, it has a laugh track and I thought those were outdated.
It did not have a laugh track, it has an audience, and those are not at all outdated (talk shows have them, stand-up comedy has them).
Not that “Chelsea” is going to be a good show but there are lots of not-good shows. It has nothing to do with using the live audience format, except to the extent that bad no-audience shows tend to get better reviews than bad audience shows.

Probably because E!, which airs Handler’s crappy talk show, is now part of the NBC “family” of cable networks. Synergy and that crap.

not that I ever wish that anyone loses work but Jo Koy in order to survive as a comic needs to build his career without help from Chelsea so I see this as a good thing for him in the long run.

Poor Natalie Morales, not to be confused with the Today show anchor, as that girl carries a curse or something. “The Middleman” was a disaster and all her other pilots tank or, if they go, she gets cut loose. Hope she learns a trade and has a backup plan. “The Middleman” was like a You Tube skit somebody mistakenly broadcast. That being said, this pilot didn’t work and it wasn’t the cast’s fault.
The Middleman was inspired and brilliant fun, far from a “disaster” (it ran a full season, spun off a comic and has done well on video). Natalie is a fantastic talent.
How is twelve episodes “a full season,” especially when they cut an episode due to low ratings? The comic came first, a loss leader, and the DVD sales weren’t great compared to other cult shows. It was a strange fit for ABC Family and belonged as a ten minute skit for Adult Swim at worst. It also tried to be funny and missed.
I like Natalie, but I don’t think she’s the most talented actor. She got lucky with Middleman and has been riding that wave ever since.
Geez. Natalie Morales can’t get much of a break these days.
Hopefully Natalie Morales will find something worthy of her talent.

Me too, I generally don’t hate anyone. I don’t even hate Tom Cruise. But I can’t stand Chelsea Handler. Who saw anything in her? She’s fucking annoying.
I was only planning on watching for Natalie Morales. Thankfully now I can cross this one off my fall schedule before it starts.

The script was terrible. No cast could have made it work. I hope ‘retooling’ means getting new writers. Funny ones, from this decade.
I can’t believe they fired 3 actors of color! Diversity was one of the few things this pilot had going for it. Watch them replace them with more blonde women (ironic that Laura Preppon is acutally a red head) and bland guys. I’m white and this really peeves me. When will our industry catch up with its audience?
Maybe the test audience saw what I saw. AN UNFUNNY PIECE OF CRAP. Handler’s appearance was not funny at all. And that laugh track just made it more obvious. I think any new show should let go of the laugh track and see if it is really funny at all.
I can’t stomach Handler. And hope this is a bust. Why they are trying so hard to push this unfunny woman down our throats is beyond me. There are far more talented women that are funny and deserve a TV show.
I don’t understand why people think live audience shows use a laugh track. They really, really don’t. You may think the studio audience is dumb, but if a joke doesn’t get a laugh at a live taping, the joke is rewritten and reshot until it does. The only multi cam show that comes close to using a “track” is “how i met your mother.”
They should have cut Chelsea and kept the others. She is inherently unlikeable.

Cheslea is a hole. Meeting her in the green room with clients you feel so uncomfortable. This is not talent. It’s somebody who mouths off and we make her a star because it’s mediocre time. Her friend Colonna has been a struggling comic forever. Another nada con nada. Today if you are famous you have talent. Used to be the other way around. Comprende
Unless they cut the Chelsea character the show will never be good. Her Character is so unlikable. She is like a female Becker, but less attractive.
I agree. Her Cameo was as lame as the bits she does or her “talk” show. She always has that “I’m too cool to act” smirk on her face to cover for the fact that she can’t act.
I cannot stand Handler, she is vile and uncouth. Hopefully this project never takes up, there are more talented women in Hollywood who have not resorted to sleeping with their boss to get ahead.
