LOS ANGELES – Fox Networks and Fox Broadcasting Company (FOX) today announced that beginning August 15, video distributors that participate in the company’s online authentication service will have an exclusive 8-day window for new episodes of FOX programs. To watch new episodes of FOX shows the next day, viewers can visit Fox.com, Hulu.com, Dishonline.com or the online TV portals of any future participating distributors and log in with their subscriber usernames and passwords. Viewers who do not subscribe to a participating distributor will be able to watch new episodes online eight days following their initial air dates.
DISH Network will be the first to offer this service, allowing their verified subscribers to take advantage of the exclusive window and view new episodes of FOX shows the day after they air on broadcast television.
“We are continually looking at opportunities to provide our pay television distributors with content and products that enhance the value of pay television to subscribers,” said Michael Hopkins, President, Affiliate Sales and Marketing, Fox Networks. “Our new authentication service will continue to provide next-day access to FOX broadcast shows for our viewers who subscribe to participating pay television providers.”
“DISH Network is proud to be the first pay-TV provider in America to give customers the opportunity to take full advantage of the new FOX.com viewing experience—at no additional cost,” said Dave Shull, Senior Vice President of Programming for DISH Network. “Early access to FOX.com is a terrific addition to our expansive TV Everywhere platform, which gives DISH Network customers the ability to watch whatever they want anytime, anywhere.”
FOX authentication only impacts online viewing. All other television viewing options remain unchanged. For more information about this service, or to make inquiries about future service, viewers should visit www.fox.com/watchnewepisodes.

Unless I’ve missed something new,all over the air television is in HD.
All the networks’ programming. The day they air.
I can record them on my DVD recorder and watch commercial free anytime I choose, and FOX (and the rest of the greedy network bastards) can’t do a damn thing to me.
On time Warner cable fox shows arenot included in the on demand. Why is that? Does it mean that with dish you can watch it on tv not online?
FOX stands in front of tide, shouts “You will stop!”
Tide doesn’t.
If this is a move to irritate customers who pay for cable through other distributors, it’s working! I won’t pay hulu for content that I already receive through Fox, in HD, on my DVR. Fox.com should have a *complete* authentication model in place on their own site and let hulu keep their 8 day window. Rushing it with only Dish might be a valuable experiment on the distribution side, but customer-wise it’s a slap in the face.
Clearly the solution to this industry’s problems is to make it as difficult and complicated as possible for people to access content legally.
Why pay for something that is already free? Come on fox. what if we dont have cable ? and we Mss an episode ? Jest more ways to make more money
Okay, not sure what FOX is trying to do here. Other than make more money, but I don’t get it. DISH must be giving them a lot of money, because now they’re sure to lose a lot of the viewers who are not DISH customers but I am guessing the same advertisements will continue. You think the show the day after will be commercial free? NO! And, if it was an effort for DISH to get more customers — come on!!! Seriously!!! I’m good with cable, a DVR and fast forward. Think I’ll tune in 8 days later- nope.
Network viewership is declining, so they limit access? I guess that’s a new angle. They should do promos about this.
FOX … you can’t watch us!!!!
I guess I won’t be going to fox.com anymore, greedy bastards. Before this at least I’d be watching their online commercials, but not anymore, I’m not gonna wait 8 days for a new episode. It took me less than 5 minutes to find another online streaming source for new episodes, without commercials.
I don’t understand why Fox is attempting to encourage piracy?
Sucks! Now you have to wait 8 days to see a new episode online! I pay for cable, just not Dish Network! May stop watching all Fox Shows b/c they aren’t allowing new episodes online next day.
Comcast has their shows OnDemand but will not let you FF through commercials. I had to watch Terra Nova that way when it got bumped for baseball. It was horrible. If you miss a Fox show and don’t want to wait 8 days, finding a commercial free torrent is the way to go. It’s easy and there’s nothing they can do to stop it. If there was, they would have already done it.
Fox marketing execs: “Listen up, everyone. Instead of letting EVERYONE see our shows online as soon as possible, let’s prohibit people from seeing our shows for 8 days unless they’re on a special list! This way, instead of the millions of people wanting to watch, we can only cater to the thousands!”
Fox employees: “Yeah! Great idea! That will reallllllly help our ratings! Great idea! Go Fox!”
Idiots. You’re all fired.
dont they know that we want to catch up on the episode before the next one airs? I will just get lost in where i am at in episodes and lose interest. rediculous.
Wow. i always check the network sites before i just torrent the episodes. now i am never gonna even bother to go to fox.com. they were always the slowest at putting up new episodes anyway. the shame is great shows like fringe might get canceled cause “no one is watchin them” when really people are just stealing them. The networks have to embrace new technology and stop fighting it. I don’t care if i have to watch a couple 30 second commercials before i watch a show i jsut choose torrents cause it is the convenient way to get tv. even network sites that do let you watch their shows always have players that skip cause they don’t let you preload the episodes, gotta live stream. i go on like nbc.com and once the episode skips once i say “fuck it” and download my own version. what the networks should do it distribute their products in every way that people enjoy viewing them without hassle. air them on TV and at the same time air them on their websites. otherwise people will look online be impatient and steal it. Networks should allow you to torrent episodes straight from their websites. they could insure that the HD torrents they distribute will download the fastest so people choose to grab the torrents through them at not third party. The HD files they distribute could have like an unskipable commercial at the beginning or just make you watch a commercial on the site before you get the torrent file. then they would still know how many people watch their shows cause they will know how many people are downloading their torrents. They are all trying to paddle against the tide, its lame and sad. does Fox really think that people are going to wait a week to watch a show they can either stream online or find a torrent of?people don’t steal shows cause they don’t want to support the show. people do it cause they are poor and busy and torrents are the best way to get the product they want. why fight it FOX when you could control it. Cable distributors and even most Networks are dead. its over for them. FOX is just poundin the nails into their own coffin.
This is ridiculous! 8 days?!?! What if I miss ONE episode? I can’t watch the next one on TV without worrying that I am going to miss something! So stupid!! FOX is being greedy
I was an avid SYTYCD viewer, but my schedule hasn’t permitted me to catch the airing on tv. I don’t have DVR and was highly disappointed to find that I couldn’t catch up online. Guess what? I haven’t watched an episode this season and don’t plan on it. You’ve lost a viewer and I’m sure many more are right behind me. Great business model, FOX!
