Friday Night Lights has already had a long journey from a book to a movie to a TV series. Now, our sister site TVLine reports that Peter Berg, who directed the 2004 film starring Billy Bob Thornton, brought it to TV and executive produced the series starring Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton for NBC and then DirecTV, is trying to put together a second movie with the principal cast of the series, which would pick up where the show left off. Here is more on the project, which would be produced by Universal Pictures, the studio behind the first movie, and Imagine, which co-produced both the movie and the TV series. Imagine’s principal Brian Grazer, who served as a producer on that film and as an exec producer on the series, would produce.

Clear eyes full hearts can’t lose… Love the idea here in the 90049…
I want Minka Kelly back!!
I’d see that…
Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are indeed the First Couple of network TV and it’s exciting to see their chemistry to the big screen. FNL’s canvas is personal and intimate but visually theatrical in equal measure, and it could translate to an outstanding feature film! Excited to hear more about this. Please keep us updated.
Dude, Berg, stop blowing your wad. It was a decent show but really, it’s time to appreciate the props-you-gots from the Academy this year and be done with this dead horse. Frankly, it’s tacky.
dude – you don’t get it. This kind of big screen move is win-win. The fans want more. The creators want to tell their story, and make a living.
Ooh Heaven truly exists
Indeed it does.
The series finale is preempted in the SF Bay Area.
FNL will air on KRON4 in the Bay Area instead of NBC Bay Area which is carrying the Giants game. Still at 8pm!
Go Giants!!!
There’s definitely plenty of material with Coach and Mrs. Coach in Philadelphia. It would definitely be a different feel from FNL in the heartland of Texas, but it would be interesting.
FIRST, on the East coast we do not do high school football, a religion in Texas— on Friday night.(Most high School fields in Phillie don’t even have lights!)
Most schools play on saturday at noon— so I guess the movie should be called “Saturday Afternooon Without Lights!”.
WOOOOOOOOOOOHEEEEEEEEEEE— poor Coach Taylor showed how pussy whipped he is , so why would anyone want to watch him dig himself out of his hole in the wall ghetto school— apparently even worse talent than at little E. Dillon. ( Parenthetically, how many last 3 second victories have they pulled this year?? If Coach Taylor cannot win in less than the last 3 seconds every game then who needs this loser???)
BY the way, Taylors got stuck in little Dillon cause wifey threw a hissy fit two seasons back— REMEMBER— and would NOT leave the misfits at little Dillon and forced hubby to give up his job in big time college coaching cause she is a leftist prat who demanded they not leave the downtrodden.
HOWEVER, the minute she received the dream job out of little E Dillion— ADIOS!!!! Tami pussy whipped poor Coach— now. after WINNING 2 out 3 state champeenships instead of being the head coach of the merged Dillon kiddies with BIG contract and perks, he is suck in NOwheresville Philadelphia, whilst his Texas g’droppin wifie hangs out with the Ivys.
Y’all try to make a movie out of this and you’ve got Kramer v Kramer– except with the hot sauce and Tequila.
Let shit lay— especially on television.
P.S.
NOTICE how Minka Kelly was smart enough to pass on the reunion???!!!
Brilliant. I’d buy my ticket today.
Yawn another marginal show that folks can’t let go of. File this next to the Arrested Development movie.
In the ‘Top-10 TV shows of All-time’ file? Yes, ma’am!
No, the “Overrated Shows That Nobody Watched When They Were On, Yet People Can’t Let Go Of And Somehow Delude Themselves There’s A Feature Film In There” file.
I think “Veronica Mars” is in there too
Best.Idea.Ever. I’d LOVE to see this!!!!
Stephanie Hunt (Devin) needs to be in it. I think she is going to take off in film next year. Really an unnoticed talent.
The best news I’ve heard all week! I was going to be so sad seeing the last show tonight, but now I hopefully have the movie to look forward to. FNL is just too great to let disappear.
There will be a Sopranos movie before any SNL over reach.
What are you going to call it, Saturday Afternoon On Broad Street????
No. No no no no no. I loved this show so much, and I miss it, but the finale was one of the incredibly rare endings that is perfect for the show and gave the fans exactly what they wanted. Leave it be.
The show ended completely perfectly and satisfyingly – they should leave it there.
I am the biggest fan of tis show and would buy 2 tickets.. problem is – I dont’ know how may people are out there like me. I think this would make an easy “Made for TV” movie. Or Better yet- HBO shoudl pick up the series and watch how it grows.
I’ve been a really big fan for the past five years, but even I can see that there’s just no audience for this.
I predict Jason Street hooks up Coach with some amazing new job….
Michael B. Jordan just wowed in last few seasons – he’s got such a great range – I hope big things come his way
I loved the show, but this seems like a really bad idea. It didn’t have a fan base.
love the music in the series – great songs. Respect.
Four words. Adrianne. Minka. Black Swan.
You gotta enjoy the little things…
I hope Janine Turner is in the new movie.
I miss seeing her in films.
Every several years something truly amazing comes along. Jason Katims is responsible for two of those. Friday Night Lights is one of them. Everything about this show worked, brilliantly. Eric and Tammy’s relationship is unbelievable and amazing. The acting is pitch perfect, the moments are honest. There really is little if anything like Friday Night Lights. Every minute of the finale made me cry not because it was sad and sappy but because I now know that come next Friday, it will be no more and until Parenthood is back this fall, I will just count the days until something genuine, beautiful and for some mind boggling reason, little watched, is back on the air.
Make a movie, make seven. If it’s as good as the show, I’m there.
