FX’s buying spree of marquee summer movie titles continues with deals for comedies Friends With Benefits and Horrible Bosses. Additionally, the network has the rights to current No. 1 opener Captain America: The First Avenger under FX’s 2008 output deal with Marvel. The three movies join recent acquisitions Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Bad Teacher, Green Lantern, The Hangover Part II, Rio, Super 8, X-Men: First Class, Thor, Just Go With It, The Green Hornet, Tron: Legacy, and Kung Fu Panda 2.

Wow. There just buying everything
Ha, they absolutely are. It’s like they are on autopilot. Simply stunning.
So with Turner just completely out of the movie acquisition game, can we expect “More Commercials, Less Movies”?
Haha! I’m thinking FX is just hoping to make itself the leading basic cable source for blockbuster movies.
So when I turn to the FX channel sometime in 2014, it’ll be like going back in time to summer of ’11?
But with censorship and commercials. Enjoy.
I hope they still have time to air “The Devil Wears Prada” 9 times a week with all these new movies.
I’m sure these R rated comedies will play great after they are neutered for broadcast.
If you ever watched Nip Tuck or, more recently, Sons of Anarchy, you’ll know FX isn’t likely to do too much neutering on the R-rated comedies. This network is definitely pushing the envelope on broadcast censorship.
Didn’t mean to say “broadcast”….but you get my drift.
Damn….someone’s got a strategy. At first, I thought FX was just adding a few new titles, but it’s clear now they’re trying to forge an identity that separates them from other cable channels.
A previous poster mentioned TBS, and I’d say that’s a good comparison. Like TBS built an identity in the ’90′s as THE channel to tune in to if you wanted to watch a syndicated comedy, it looks like FX wants to be the place you go to if you want to watch a recent blockbuster movie.
Pretty smart. No one’s filling that role right now in basic cable. AMC has a decent library, but it’s nothing current.
I wholeheartedly agree. FX is building a really decent backlog of former blockbusters. I find myself turning to FX more and more if there is nothing else on that I’m interested in. And 2 years ago, I couldn’t have told you what channel FX was in my area.
How about listing when these movies come out on Blu-Ray
